Ahh the game we didn’t know how to play but we’d still dump a small fortune of quarters on each time we died just so we could see the next animation sequence. Anyone else remember this the same way I do? lol
I think I ended up just standing next to the cabinet in arcades WATCHING other people play it. It was great
that about sums it up!
@@MetalJesusRocks me too!!! I was broke lol
Yes I always died on the first scene. I couldn't get past it
My brother was one of those people who could play through it. People would give him fifty cents and watch him play.
These cabinets are just above an beyond on the little details, these guys cleary really love what they do. This one is beautiful!
They look simply amazing!
I was expecting a slightly higher price. I think the details add a lot without probably costing them a lot.
It really is a gorgeous piece of toymaking.
I remember the show ‘Silver Spoons’ where the kid had this game in his game room and was insanely jealous.
This really is badass... I mean imagine having a nook arcade based off miniatures like this. Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for watching!
That's a cool idea that saves a ton of money, maintenance, and space. Go for it!
3:00 I love how MJR is oh-so-carefully trying to slide the disc out, like it's a real disc. :-)
Like a real disc, I didn't wanna get my finger prints on it! 😂
@@MetalJesusRocks decades of muscle memory LOL
The level of detail blows me away! So glad there are people out there that love this kind of stuff and recreate it for us. If there was a technology collapse and I had to recreate any of this myself I'd be SO SCREWED! What an awesome replica, thanks for sharing!
To be fair, if there was a technology collapse, to where all our phones and computers were destroyed in some freak accident, and it was up to the public to create technology themselves, then I would think it would be a good 2 decades before we saw computers being somehow reversed engineered and recreated again from scratch for manufacturing. At most I think we would see game consoles like the super Nintendo being developed within 5 years of the crash.
Finally! The arcade experience comes home to my bathroom.
It's those little replica touches that make me want to throw money at this thing.
The best place to play it. We all need a good way to kill time in there.
LOL so true
It can’t be overstated enough how different and cool this game was....I remember seeing this first at my local Chuck E Cheese and being completely blown away. Funny thing was I never saw anyone who was good at it, you were happy just to see the death animations👍
Mike matae from angry video game nerd recorded himself beating it
Mike matae from angry video game nerd recorded himself beating it
It took me a really long time just to beat the Amiga port and it was missing a lot of the levels. They were later released as Singe's Castle.
Amazing attention to detail.... looks awesome
Time Traveler was the game that blew my mind when I was a kid.
Yes! first saw it at Dixie Landing's Disney World in the early 90's. Would love to have that game in this scale
Ok
A 1/6 scale Time Traveler would be amazing but i'm ordering this Dragon's Lair too
@Channel X Actually yes I am lol.. one of my favorite games of all time. Love playing it on my switch and on Sega CD back in the day.. So what?
Same, I Kickstarter this so can't wait for mine to arrive
Wow that laser player put a smile on my face
Because of your review, i just bought one from New Wave Toys ! Thank you, i love your channel and seeing this arcade replica unit of Dragons lair up close & in detail, made it a must have for me. This thing (and their other mini arcades) are just so incredible. I love mini items, especially when it's done RIGHT. 👍😁
This looks awesome. I'm a huge Dragon's lair fan! I got to have it. Thanks for letting us know about this product.
You bet!
I’d use the HDMI out to add a tiny TV on top of the cabinet; like they did in the arcades with this game.
how did it transfer? was it responsive? was it worth it?
? I don't remember ever seeing that the few times I saw this in arcades/malls or wherever...
Haha good idea. They should sell one all retro crt style.
As soon as you plug a monitor into the HDMI, the screen on the unit turns off. Coulda been sweet though.
@@lemonmanlbc yeah I saw that
Okay I need this.
Fwiw, I have all their mini arcade offerings thus far (including the change machine battery recharger) and have been very pleased.
The fact that coin slots are functional is amazing
I love how these are functional! Cool to see these little guys. I feel like this would be insanely difficult on that little thing though.
The attention to detail is insane, the left no stone unturned!
Agreed, they put a lot of thought into it. Staying true to the original.
very clean design, lovet the little disc
OK the detail on this is a collectors wet dream. The disc and player really makes it feel like a complete mini replica.
I would love to see Operation Wolf, the uzi was so much fun!!
This takes me back to a very treasured time in my childhood. I was 9 years old when this game came out and ran to it every chance I had. I ordered one before I even finished your review. :)
Me too lol
As a kid I was always drawn to dragons lair.
I completely sucked at it but I watched that intro over and over.
This is so Rad! This is gonna have to be my first replicade...this is the perfect little replica
my favorite game related channel
The screen shouldn't have been flat but is a perfect replica. Awesome.
I have owed an original Dragon's Lair machine since 1986 and still have it to this day. The detail on this miniature is incredible and I just ordered two based off of your review. The little replica Pioneer Laser Disc player is just mind blowing.
I was 4 minutes into your video and I ordered it, then finished your video. I was working at Disneyland in 1990 when I first saw this game in the "Starcade" in Tomorrowland. Back then it was $1 to play which was a lot of money but so worth it. This brings back so many good memories for me and I can't wait to receive mine in the mail. You rock, Metal Jesus! Thank you for sharing this.
Awesome review! I liked how thorough you were with all of the little details!
Two days in CIB versions will be outrageous as keeping those tiny bits around is going to be impossible haha
I remember being blown away by this as a kid. It was really cool for the time!
Where is your pfp from I keep seeing it everywhere
@@isaac2bands I have had this profile pic a long time. It is called Steal Your Face. It is an image from the band Grateful Dead.
wowww i need this thing ,,incredible details!!!!
i used to watch my bro play this game, at RANDEL PARK MALL, near CLEVELAND, OHIO in 1979. That is what 41 years ago. haha Now the mall has been torn down, after claiming the biggest mall in the world, in 1980. haha It was way before it's time.....CRAZY TECH from the FUTURE!!
I am so excited for this . I don't normally do mini arcade cabs and have never done Kickstarter until I saw this last November . It's been almost a year since I backed this . I can't wait for it to finally get here !!!!
i got to say.. that is some insane detail.. i am impressed..
Road Blasters aka Road Avenger please.
Oh hell yeah....
Joe's lyrics would have to be in the options menu.
"I KILLED A VARIABLE MAN" 😂😂😂
Yessssssss
I had this on my Mega CD :)
Game Sack No Road Avenger Yuk!
@@RevRaptor898 it was the best Mega CD game and it came with the system!
The crowds and the vibe around this game when it came out was like none other. Just nothing else like it existed. They did an amazing job with this one. Great review MJR!
Just pre-ordered mine thank you for the heads up
I want a Vader playing Dragon's Lair t-shirt.
Adding Darth Vader to the scene looks cool! Great video as always Jason. You always do excellent with your presentation.
Thank you so much 👍
@@MetalJesusRocks Yes sir!
Thayer’s Quest! Now, that would be extraordinary!
WOW so many little details...The lASER DISC AND QUARTERS are a super nice touch
I am always in awe of your endless supply of interesting things to talk about!
I remember when I played this game a long time ago in the Arcade Hall. Very nice looking details!
Love this so much. I remember playing it at the arcades in Vallejo, Cali. And losing several quarters 😅
To know a mini cab exists.. just sweet
Awesome video Metal Jesus🎉🎉🎉
3:12 This laserdisc is just cold 😂
I watched this less than a week ago and instantly clicked your link to buy. I just got it last night and opened it up 20mins ago. The quality on this thing is unbelievable! Even the feel of the materials, the stickers and the joystick. I would always go down to the convenience store with my friend and watch him blow through loads of quarters while I had a slurrpie. I can see myself getting a few of these, they are just too cool.
"Lead on, adventurer. Your quest awaits!"
Looks awesome. Love the attention to detail!
Yeah they really put the time in
Just been transported back to the 80's again, but now as a GIANT, this thing is awesome. I think I know what's on the top of my Christmas list
It’s insane that I have multiple iterations of this game starting with sega cd up to the switch.THIS IS MY NEXT PURCHASE!
Definitely brings back memories hanging out in stinky arcades for hours with even more stinky players.
I have been backing them since their first cab, but you get a test version?
🤯🤝 I love you Metal Jesus!!🤙🛹
This looks awesome, I'd love to have a bunch of these for other classic games to make a mini arcade.
Me too i'm all in
They have Street Fighter II, Tempest, and Centipede out already. Asteroids is on sale, to be released in December. And more in the works!
Im buying all of them until I run out of space in my office, haha! I want that cacophony of arcade sounds and atmosphere!
"You could store....roaches in there" - What MJR really meant.
😂
Oh sweet, now I can die in 15 seconds on a mini arcade. Love the art but man, I am bad at the game. Still cool to see, the detail is nuts
I usually find these mini stuff silly, but this is actually cool, great attention to detail.
Ordered Dragons Lair today....and last week both versions of Asteroids, Tempest and one of the last Street Fighter II. Hey and Dig Dug from numskull will (hopefully) be released soon. Thank God i dont need food, water or clothes.....
I absolutely love what Numskull and New Wave Toys do - hope we will see much more classic arcade games!
I'm actually old enough to remember when this game hit arcades in 1983. I lived in a small town of about 8,000, yet the first few days they had the game there was always 8-10 people waiting to play. Finally played it a week later, and loved it. I just might try to find one of these awesome mini replicas.
Loved this game as a kid, the only place that had it was the local 7-11 (they had 3 or 4 games at the back of the store). After school it was a race to 7-11 for a Slurpee and to line up to play Dragon's Lair. Good times 😀.
I was SOOO happy to hear you mention Space Ace lol! That was the only one of these games I could finish in the arcade. LOVED that game! Great review, I need to pick this up now.
Nice! That arcade looks outstanding. Im more of a Space Ace guy but love Dragons lair as well. Hated that these games were 50 cents to play back in the day. 😆
The HDMI out is exactly what the Street Fighter 2 replica needed. I passed on that for this reason alone. If they make a TMNT one and more with theses features ; I may start collecting these.
I feel like Street Fighter would be so hard on a little cab like that. HDMI would be a must on that. Good call.
Nothing can ever change the feeling you get when the quarter hits the bin. The rest of the world ceased and ceases to exist.
Amazing attention to detail for a mini replica. Thanks for reviewing that!
That is awesome!! I will definitely check on getting one.
I played it back in the 80s in the arcade, maybe a couple times. Everyone knows it was notoriously hard and damn near impossible to get very far. I have it on DS and it's still hard as hell
Got my order in today before they sold out again. Can't wait to sit this thing on my work desk.
A work made with real LOVE. Amazing details !
The attention to deal on those mini machines is insane. I regret not buying their Street fighter 2 champion edition cab before it got sold out.
That would be a cool little cabinet but I bet it would be hard to pull off combos on that little cab.
@@IndieArcadeWave It had 2 USB ports in the back of it so you could use controllers.
I remember trying this game once when they had it at the movie theater. I had no idea what I was supposed to do and didn't get past the first option.
Man, I remember being totally blown away by this in the arcade as a kid and then playing it and having no idea what was going on.
I have never purchased anything faster...order completed before video finished...amazing
NICE!! I remember playing all 3 Don Bluth LaserDisc games a few years ago on my brother's PS4.
I honestly love this channel
I honestly love this comment
You could store your stash in there. ;o)
This is one particular game where the smaller size is really not much of a hindrance to playing it. Pretty cool setup for a classic.
The art work in Dragon’s Lair always reminded me of the art work in the animated film Heavy Metal and it’s Magazine.
"Wow! 18 years of nothing, and now twice in one day! What a place!" 😂
Love the Heavy Metal movie too
I have all their stuff so far. The cabinets are great and the Coin Change machine/charger for the arcade machines is great. The Artcade book is amazing!
Love the way these look in my game room. Will get them all and have a mini arcade like I visited in 1980.
Wow, I’m kinda impressed by the fidelity, attention to detail and care that’s gone into this. Looks amazing. They kinda went above and beyond in pretty much every way possible.
That looks amazing! I still remember the first time I saw it in the mid 80's. it was next to the sit down Spy Hunter game I went to play and it utterly blew my away. Sadly it didn't take long to realise the game is little more than a memory tester so I didn't play it much.
It's out! Ordered! :D Oh man I loved their demos at PRGE last year.
Awesome! New Wave Toys is really something else. I don't yet own one of the RepliCades, but many a random stranger has complimented the "Insert Coin" keychain that I have from them on my car keys
I need that key chain
Super cool mini coinop! I love Arcade cabinets so much so looking at this little guy is a true joy!
I would stand around and watch the older kids play this and Space Ace every trip to the arcade (after my 4 quarters were sunk on Galaga and Moon Patrol). This is truly an amazing passion piece. Would love to get it for my office desk.
So cool. This game was released also by Limited Run Games. A lot of fun. And lol @ Darth Vader playing the arcade 😂
Love your channel.
Thank you!
Holy crap. I'm not in to collecting anymore but that is awesome!!!!!! I'll never forget seeing that game in the arcade when it came out. I might be buying this one.
I Love Dragon’s Lair, I did the kickstart program, hope to get mine soon, Thanks for the review.
My memory of Dragon's Lair is similar to yours! I was blown away when I first saw it! The first time I think I ever uttered the words "the graphics!" The one or two times I could afford to pay the $.50 I remember being both awestruck and frustrated as hell because it was so easy to die! Having to balance cross a thin bridges, ropes, or being lined up for a jump was a new concept compared to other arcade games. Granted if you died you could feed another $.50 into the slot and start back up where you left off but given that it was easy to die it became way too expensive too soon for my poor pockets. This game was one of the reasons I became a better game watcher than game player. Such nostalgia!
I remember going to the arcade at our local mall on Saturday morning back in the early 80's. You can play any game unlimited for $5 for a couple of hours. My game was Dragon's Lair. I loved that game but never made it very far even with unlimited credits. Thank you for the great memories and all of your videos. I definitely have to pick this up.
I caved! I just ordered. Thanks MJ for the vid.
Love the details, even down to the manual cover!
Andrew!!! Glad you like the video. Stay safe, my friend
This thing is sooooooo cooooool!
Omg what an epic hardware. One of the most amazing pieces of this mini arcade trend. Really impressive, all the arcade replica pieces are just gorgeous and really hit all the buttons on my nostalgic brain region.
This game never gets old.
Thanks for this video. Now I know what I want for Christmas.
Greetings from Berlin Germany.
Stay safe and healthy ✌️👍
Very cool! The attention to detail is awesome.
WONDERFUL REVIEW! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
That is so dope. I remember playing that in about 1990 in a mall near my house. I was amazed.
MJR.... I remember this game back in '83. Killeen, TX, Chuck E. Cheese. I can't believe they put so many details into this; hated the fact that it was 50 cents, but it was worth. You can appreciate it, but I'm not sure if a lot of others will.
I remember this from the arcades when I was a kid but it was always way too expensive and the controls didn't make sense to me back then. This was one of those games which I enjoyed by watching others play.
It was the first game to be .50 a credit
This is amazing, the attention to detail is pretty jaw dropping. I got to get me one of these.
Still have my Pioneer laser disc mulit format machine...
