Loved the stories. Thank you so much. My great great grandfather was a member of the Willie handcart company. Robert Reeder. He settled in Hyde Park Utah.
Ann Collett Oakey was my Great Aunt. She was baptized by Wilford Woodruff in Benbow Pond and traveled in the Willie handcart company . To make this journey they had to be blessed by Heavenly Father . Thanks for the reminder of what our pioneer family's went through so we could have so many blessings ourselves.
The story about Benjamin and Mary Platt prompted me to look up some Platt's that were really important in my childhood and youth in FamilySearch. Turns out that my Platt's were descendants of Benjamin and Mary Platt. Thanks for the story.
My fraternal second great grandparents were in the Rowley Hancock Company. Ebeneezer Beesley composed 13 hymns for our hymn book, and led the tabernacle choir . My maternal 3rd great grandfather was a captain over 100 wagons to Salt Lake. After he and his son finished the Mormon battalion, Brigham Young sent them to settle A place later name for them, Payson, Utah. I am a proud member of the DUP, And thank God to be their descendent and the many blessings there in.
My parents served a mission at Martin's Cove, the 2nd yr of its Establishment. President Faust, while visiting the Cove, recalled the story of Geo. Padley. He asked Pres. Lorimor of the Riverton Stake to have Geo Padley sealed to Sarah as they were engaged when he passed. Even though she had been sealed to another man after she reached the SLC Valley. The sidenote... this was before women were allowed to be sealed to more than one man after passing. President Faust felt prompted to have the couple sealed. There is a story of the miracle of getting the records of those couples that never made it to the valley together. Such good stories. Most are in the Book called REMEMBER published in about 1998.
