Fuck, that whistle ALWAYS gets me every single time. For me, it's like her screaming in pain after saying all she had to say/sing, from soft to high to higher and then she didn't have any more words left to describe her heartbreak. That's how that whistle makes me feel everytime. It's so powerful and soul-shaking.

The ending of this video was shot live in Long Beach, Ca with the full band and she sang live all the way til 3am! Legendary!! And during production intervals she took requests from the fans in the audience so we got a full blown concert! BEST ROAD TRIP EVER!

DEF LEPPARD guitarist Phil Collen has told the Montreal Gazette that he's all for MARIAH CAREY's recent revival of the group's "Bringin' On The Heartbreak" (from 1981's "High 'n' Dry") - a cover some fans have considered an act of high treason.
"You get e-mails from fans, and they go, 'It's disgusting, it's terrible,'" he said. "I said, 'No - you've got to realize that she's on our side. Someone's actually out there promoting one of our songs. You should give her all the help she can get.'
"Ultimately, it's just a great honor for us (if) anyone does that - and does a real genuine version, not recording the song and making fun of the band, like the Michael Jackson thing by ALIEN ANT FARM ('Smooth Criminal'). With Mariah it was a genuine version of our song. I actually think that's a huge compliment

This version of the song brings the emotion to another level for me. The buildup is gradual and you feel the power growing in the music and inside you when all of a sudden it all bursts at once and this euphoric, yet sorrow feeling overwhelms you. I have yet to experience a song that takes me somewhere else as much as this rendition did.

She definitely conveys the sorrow. Probably why Joe Elliott gave it his stamp of approval. A person's sorrow can be soft and aching, like it is here. But it can also be razor sharp and cold as steel, leaving one to scream into the night. That said everyone here should check out the original (High N Dry-Pete Willis era-shot in concert at Liverpool-Joe had curly, black hair-no synthesizer) version. Two different versions; same feeling of despair.

I honestly think Mariah is the only artist I know who can pull off beautiful covers. I've listen to other artist who recorded covers and they just didn't pull it off well but Mariah has proven she has the true talent to do so and not only with this song but her covers to: " The Beautiful Ones " " I'll Be There " " Without You " " I Want To Know What Love Is " is again prime examples of only Mariah can pull off great covers to convert as if it was her very own. She can also convert samples and bring out the hits in them like she has done with the likes of " Fantasy " " Honey " and " Heartbreaker "
If i may add, she is also one of the few artists whose songs cannot be covered. Good thing she writes and produces her own stuff; everything is tailored to her voice.

Grew up in the same town and went to the same elementary school, Norwood Avenue, Northport Long Island. My sister was in the same class, I think 4th grade. True story, at least based on my sister. Mariah was always signing in class and the teacher was always telling her to be quiet. He even told her that she was never going to be good enough to be a singer. Ha! Take that Mr. Eberhardt. Anyway, I had no idea Mariah did this cover. I've been a Leppard fan since 1983 when I first heard Pyromania and then went and bought High and Dry and On Through the Night.

Mariah Carey has a special place in my heart. Not many people have that to their credit.
I'm a metal fan and don't generally listen to this type of music but the whole point of a cover is to make it your own. While I think Mariah's version suffers from trying to keep the original's pace and would've been better served by a slower tempo, at least she adapted it to her style. I have more respect for that than cover versions that do nothing but xerox the original.
Whenever she covers a song, she always make sure that her own touch and musicality is added to the song.

Charmbracelet, the album this was on, was unfortunately overlooked by many and I believe too many people compared this song (a cover) to the original one from Def Leopard so it didn’t get nearly as much airplay as it should have (in the States at least). But I love it and think she did a fantastic job making it her own.
