Thank you so much for sharing your story. Your daughter is very lucky to have a great dad like you. And yes, this is about Anthony Kiedis's (the lead singer) drug addiction. The Peppers were a big part of my HS experience. Flea is still one of best bassists in the world.

As a person with the same affliction as Anthony had…. This song captures the whole vibe and lifestyle that swallows you up when that affliction takes control. The city becomes your only trusted friend because that’s where the affliction rests. You can always find what you’re looking for…. And never wanna feel like I did that day can be taken a few way’s because you feel that just before your first hit, when you’re sick as f#ck from withdrawal and when you’ve finally realized you “gave your life away” to this affliction. He caught all of being stuck in addiction in a few words. Always a genuine classic.

Being a parent. A single father to a child who the mother didn't want ???!! Wow, that was really amazing when you felt you had nothing at all. As long as you try, and turn up everyday you are a great father. If something doesn't work out well this day, try something different the next day. Just be there and talk to her.

As parents we ALL feel like failures but we are not. You a single dad? I was alone with my daughter, worrying every day. You sound like a great father. There's no pass or fail. But if there were, pretty damned sure, you passed already.

I have also always felt that feeling of dread and pain when I hear that line, and it just fits with the way the music is set up. But I must say, what an amazing incident that you referred to and I know exactly what you mean. And I even have a close friend that went through almost identically that situation! I mean identical it's amazing! What a painful saying it's so much good ends up coming out of. It's fascinating man I love how you described it.
