Hey Matt, Love your straight forward no bullshit reviews Currently I am super confused stuck in Between Palisade Fortuner and pathfinder Please advice Some one put the thought in my head that diesel cars are not going for short runs They are good for long drives We are buying our first new car in 17 years Please advice
So this car has been sold out from almost all my hyundai car dealerships here in Dallas, I was able to prepurchase it and have to wait 1 month, I can't wait.
Why would you pay an extra $30k+ give or take or so for an Audi or BMW or Merc?? Heck if my kids were still young, I'd take this one any day over a Euro
Yep. I can see the appeal of a Q7. But I can also see the appeal of $30,000 worth of holidays or mortgage payments, and a good non-luxury SUV in the driveway.
As one commentator put it, if you are a "prolific breeder" then this is one of your few options if you want a SUV body style for a family of 6-8 persons. My only concern with it is the ground clearance and engine choices. The departure an approach angles on this look quite low and no i am not suggesting you take this thing for a rowdy mud plugging session but if it encounters a serious pothole, it looks like it will bottom out when under a full load. The engine choices on the petrol side could do with some electrification and I dont believe this platform is totally without it in other markets. Not a fan of a diesel rattle personally and that fuel economy for the v6 is abysmal but you cant knock it too hard because it is a V6. Two family features that werent mentioned however is the one where the driver has a PA system that can be used to cell the kids at the back to shut up or stop kicking each other. The second feature is the quiet mode that shuts off all the other speakers except the ones at the front if you want to keep the kids asleep at the back. Aside from all of this I dont see these much on school runs, instead I see them in executive parking lots and affluent shopping areas. This tells me these are being purchased as status symbols and fashion statements for people that wanted a Chelsea Tractor or Macan but the pocketbook just couldnt reach it.
Just subscribed. My palisade is due for delivery in 2 weeks. I chose the elite diesel awd due to my budget constraints and need to drive to the ski resorts every year.
Seeing lots of this on streets. I was very exited about the reveal of Kia Telluride which is quite disappointingly unavailable in Australia. Image we also had the Kia, these two brothers will dominate the class.
Thanks Robert! Great to hear that, and thanks for joining the fun! I can and will when relevant - performance oriented cars, and often EVs - but it’s not going to be a regular thing and I won’t be doing any 0-100 tests, unless I get the channel big enough to hire a private road. So spread the word! 🤣
One thing i constantly missing in ur video now a days is the mention of the lurch you get at initial run or when you push the gas ..you did mention briefly about it but it gives a feeling that it is not much a big deal but in reality it does ..i took qashqai test drive based on ur video review and it turned out to be horrible and somewhat unsafe at high traffic conditions ..perhaps something to emphasize more in coming videos ...keep up the good work ,thanks for the video.
I'm guessing you haven't driven a Nissan CVT gearbox before or many turbocharged engines. Put your foot down in a Nissan CVT and things don't happen instantly. It's a completely different type of gearbox. Same with many turbocharged engines. They "lag" for a couple of seconds until the boost kicks in. Matt did say in his Qashqai review "Occasionally the transmission at low speeds and the turbo engine catch each other out. You learn how to drive this CVT / turbo combination. His advice is true. Hope this helps you with your test drives.
@@tonymillar5342 absolutely true ..i guess the edge Matt's video have is to help regular guys understand the hidden integrities of the cars for daily family driver like me ...for example the video of "long term review of Sportage " on old channel ..that is kind of advice makes the difference as nobody else covers those points .. i also understand that this was not the long term review but the first impressions. But the casual nuisances of "turbo charge-CVT " is way riskier and complex for daily drivers on busy traffic than on highway. Something i would expect Matt to emphasize more, but that is just my opinion.
Hi Matt, Just come across your RUclips channel; now subscribed. My brother in Melbourne is looking for a large 'soft' family SUV. He currently drives a 2010 Hyundai 2.0d ix35 with 260k km on the clock, been very reliable but now showing it's age. Current short list is: * 2023 Kluger 2.5i hybrid GXL * 2023 Palisade 2.2d Elite * 2023 Sorento Sport+ 2.2d Personally, I'm a fan of the new Sorento diesel, but not so sure about the DCT gearbox. The car will only drive on sealed roads and will not be used for towing. Annual mileage is 25k km, town + freeway driving. Any thoughts; your opinion please.
Hi Richard, thanks for joining the community! It’s an interesting conundrum your brother is in. All three of those cars are very good, for all sorts of reasons. I would like to know if they need seven seats? And is the step up in size to accommodate seven seats a necessity, or just an “I think seven seats would be handy” move? Reason being is that if they’ve made do with an ix35 to this point, and five seats is an okay number to continue with, I think a Hyundai Tucson diesel or Kia Sportage diesel could actually be the right car for them. However, if seven seats, simplicity and potentially very good reliability is the primary driver, I think I’d be steering towards the Kluger.
@@therightcar Hi Matt, thanks for the quick reply. No, 7 seats are not needed. The car will be used as a 5 seater, my brother likes space and comfort. However, I agree; he should also look at the Sportage and Tucson diesel. However, the Kluger hybrid, especially the new 2023 spec soon to be launched, will probably be spot on for my brother and his lifestyle.
Yessir, independent. I had some help filming stuff earlier on, but apart from on events where they supply some footage and sometimes a videographer, it's all me! :D
We want a very quiet and comfortable suv for the family; number of seat rows don't matter and we don't want a luxury brand. Which suv would you recommend?
Disagree, why did Nissan only sell 188 new examples of Pathfinder last year. Nissan do not make good cars anymore; this is why their sales have plummeted in Australia over the last 10 years.
@Richard-sl8we Have you tested both cars. I have driven both and my opinion was the Pathfinder was better in all facets. It all depends if you like lots of wind noise like the palasade has and its under powered, Korean cars look very cheap inside. I do agree nissan has not being doing that great the last 10 years mainly because of the Cvt. But it's my opinion the Pathfinder drove much better. Also the palasade sold only 4000 cars last year and the pathfinder's first batch of cars only touched down in December 2022. Pointless stat
@@jeffchids6488 What do you think of the poor torque (at high rpm) on the Pathfinder; I find the engine gutless? The Palisade 2.2d and new Kluger 2.4T are far superior. Also, why has Nissan sales in Australia plummeted over the last 10 years?
The Palisade received a “poor” rating for rear passenger safety. With two young children, that was a deal breaker for us. We purchased a 2023 Subaru Ascent and couldn’t be happier.
In what test? Given you have an Ascent I'm guessing it was a NHTSA result? In ANCAP 2022 testing, it managed 88% for Child Occupant Protection (43.24 out of 49).
Interior space n packaging of palisade trumps the cx9 in every possible way. Cx9 does have better looking(subjective) interior though, but it feels lot less airy, less storage, less cup holders , lot less headroom in third row n less boot space than palisade.

I agree. A really shame we don’t get Telluride. Likewise, I wish we got the bigger Honda, VW and Subaru three-row models!
Maybe due to the size of the market they didnt want to cannibalize sales.
Thanks for the review. The Elite diesel sounds about right for me.
Glad you found it helpful!
