- 100 Gecs is apart of a new wave of hyperpop artists who all push the boundaries of pop music. But even among these talented artists, 100 Gecs stands out as extremely unique, blending multiple genres into a chaotic, harsh and loud experience that has received critical acclaim from fans and critics alike. Today I'll be looking at why they're so popular, and some of the ways they fuse genres to create some of the most unique music to come out in the past decade.

100 gecs is the band that the more you listen to it the better it gets, it never gets old
the ending thoughts of this video perfectly show why I love gecs so much. a lot of people, if they aren’t turned away immediately, get caught up into calling them ‘post ironic’ or ‘meme music’ and I feel like that completely dismisses the intent that 100 gecs has. they’re just making music they like and want to hear, and there shouldn’t be any shame in liking whatever music you think is good. left at london talked about it on twitter a while ago and someone responding described it as hypersincerity and I just love that mentality

I could see them as “absurdist,” but it’s kinda like the most affectionate form of absurdism. I think they take their influences up to 11 not simply to mock them but because sounding goofy in this particular way has a cool effect.

I think we’re just seeing a resurgence in the ‘scene kid’ scene that was huge on myspace in the late 00’s. Which is good, because a lot of people in that subculture have had nothing to pour energy into since it fell out of fashion. Depressed teens need a group/vehicle for their purpose and emo/scene (when in fashion) gives them one and puts them on a pedestal. Strap in for the rawring 20’s.

Charlie xcx didn't really pioneer it, she popularised it. Ag cook, Sophie, PC music produced for her and that's what helped it gain popularity in the mainstream

id closely describe this group as a younger more modern version of the residents. a band who are heard and immediately called bad without the knowledge that its an experiment and a parody of pop music. its a deconstruction, not an attempt to make the next summer hit.
