The 12-team playoff will be very boring if we only get 1 ACC, 1 Big XII, and 1 G5 team. If the rest are SEC/B1G teams I'll be pretty disappointed. But it seems like this is the most likely scenario.
I'd rather have a bunch of strong teams from the same conferences giving us good, competitive playoff games than have some "new faces" getting destroyed in playoff games. Regardless of how it goes, I just want interesting, compelling, competitive games.
How does a team the stature of USC have all their defensive metrics be in the 100's? THE 100'S, oh my goodness. That is pathetic and sad. SMH. Go DAWGS!!
After LR let OUs defense go to shit over his years, you should think he would have gotten to work on USCs defense immediately . Apparently he didnt, so why should he get more time ?? Was he just waiting until his staying at his dream job is in question
Josh, I am a SC fanatic and with that said I do not agree that the fanbase expects to have a top 25/40 defense this year....not at least the rational fanbase that has been paying attention. You pointed your finger at the main issue which is the roster, especially for the front 7, but the backend and edges will surprise some teams. Most importantly they will all be much improved overall on D, with a good scheme that will have players in position and developed thru the Spring/Fall. I predict they will make just inside the top 50 on D
USC has a ton of Talent on Defense that was out of position, running poor schemes and extremely under developed. USC will easy be top 20 defense. You could give Grinch All 5 ⭐ s on the field and USC would still be terrible on defense..
@@Zak-bv4qm what's delusional is thinking a coach with a 104-12 record, that just took a 4-8 Washington to the National Championship game in only 2 seasons, is somehow going to implode when he's walking into the most talented roster he's ever had, with the most resources he's ever had.
Josh USC has a ton of Talent on Defense that has been playing out of position, Underdeveloped, and undersized due to the request from the previous regime. USC defense will easily be top 20 this season. YOU could give Alex Grinch all 5 stars at every position (like Texas AM) and they would have still been terrible. Coaching matters in College football 🏈
Can’t we just have a blanketed way to determine who gets in? 4 conference champs, best g5 champ, 7 best records outside of that percentage wise, strength of schedule/ head to head for tie breakers. Why are we letting a committee decide this at all? We all know they aren’t picking who deserves it most
VT will go 8-4 (Ls to Rutgers, Miami, Syracuse and Clemson) at best - I could see them splitting ODU and Marshall, because it is what VT tends to do; they haven't been able to knock off G5 opponents consistently. There will be improvements, but I think their ceiling is 8-4 until the ACC collapses and Miami, FSU and Clemson leave - then you'll have a new-Big East situation where VT doesn't play high-end competition regularly.
@Donny_DeVito I absolutely can lmao just cause the remnants of Fuentes and Grant fuckin Welles suck doesn't mean this team that returns like 85% of production and went 6-1 down the stretch will
@Donny_DeVito especially with Syracuse being in the first year of a rebuild with honda mccord at qb, plus Rutgers is Rutgers, they'll go 6-6 with no impressive wins like they always do under schiano

It's the main reason they expanded it. So they can get more of the teams from there own conference in
We need at least independent team in there

The 12 team playoff will be unwatchable if it doesn’t include the 12 best teams. It shouldn’t matter what conference they are a member of.
Unfortunately this is the future
Michigan has been consistently taking talent out of Virginia for a long time.
What If....Maryland has a good year, let's say 9-3 in the new look Big Ten (very realistic, losses to Iowa, Penn State and Oregon).
That leaves them with likely 0 ranked wins unless USC is good in which case it's 1 nice win.
That does not put them anywhere near the playoff picture
Theres actually a way where 8 or 9 teams from the SEC all could be 10-2. What happens then?
they have to play each other..its mathematically impossible for 8-9 to go 10-2

"WHAT IF" -- Both the B1G TEN and the SEC Champions have 2 losses?
"WHAT IF" -- The NCAA vacates Michigan's Natty?

if usc doesn't improve on the field, or start recruiting better on defense then the critics are correct
The biggest what if ... What if Alabama has a bad year ?
9-3
Ya'll can wish as much as you want, it ain't happening.

Sounds strangely like OU fans did during their Riley years
I want usc to have a bad defense because they would be in shootouts all season long.
From a usc fan thank you for being realistic! 2025 2026 is the takeoff year!
USC will definitely improve that's insane 😂 .. Yall don't know anything

No matter what all that is still based around rankings that are subjective and technically decided by a committee.
