  • Hi Everyone
With us now having a spot of what you may call 'summer' weather I made the late decision to head in to my local hills for a mid week wild camp and enjoy a lovely sunset from up on high.
So, after finishing work on a lovely, warm summer Tuesday evening, I packed the rucksack and headed for the Forest of Bowland. 35 minutes later I was parked up at the Delph Lane car park and heading on up the fells. An hour later I reached the summit trig point of Hazelhurst Fell at 429m. Just perfect uninterrupted view out to the Irish Sea. To my far left Blackpool, and it's famous Blackpool Tower, straight ahead Heysham, Lancaster and Morecambe and then to my far right the mountains of the Lake District.
Leaving it until about 7.30pm, just to make sure no one was going to arrive (which I did not expect) I pitched my tent right by the trig point and waited to see the spectacular sunset, which did not disappoint.
The it was a case of having some food, reading a few pages of my book before retiring to the tent for a lovely peaceful evening.
This was a circular route of which the second half I did the following morning and will be on the next video. Here is a link to the full route in OS maps

    All the best

Small car park mind and a place I have heard of but never been, so interesting to see what it was like. Nice views from the top and a perfect pitch for the setting sun too, cheers Alan

It brilliant mate, I love the Forest of Bowland so quiet. The base of the trig made a perfect seat for me and a table for the stove! 👍
Thank you so much for watching as always mate, it really does mean a lot.

Hi Kev. Yeah it’s the western most fell in the Forest of Bowland so everything drops off down to the coast. Always a good sunset from up there. 😃👍

@@thepeakdistrictviking Thank you Stu. The Forest of Bowland is very like the Peak District in some ways, pathless boggy and peaty terrain. In another way, totally the opposite, it’s so quiet, you can walk for miles and not see a soul! 😀

    Hi Dave,
What a lovely yomp in the beautiful forest of Bowland! Well worth the last minute decision to go for a camp. That pitch by the trig was immense! 🤩 🏕👌. Gorgeous sunset too, doesn't get any better than that for a cheeky mid week camp! Great stuff, thanks for taking us along👍
    All the best,

      Hi Pete, Hi Shell.
It was a cracking evening and the base of the trig made an ideal seat and table for the stove. I was treated to a great sunset over Morecambe Bay as you say. The walk out in the morning was amazing too, which you will see on the next video.
Have a great week, all the best
      Dave 😃🥾⛰🏕️

Hi Ian, Meg. The Forest of Bowland is brilliant. It's so quiet, you can walk for miles and miles and not see anyone. Definitely if you are ever in the area plan a walk, you won't be disappointed.

35 min drive, a one hour walk. From home to camp. Awesome. I wonder if you went to work the next day? You'd probably have time to get home, shower and breakfast maybe even shave. Watching part two now.

Morning Ashley. Yeah paths are a luxury in the Forest of Bowland. It’s very much off piste bog trotting. It’s so quiet though compared to the lakes or the Peak District.
Thanks for watching as always, have a great week. 😃
