A couple more pumps after your start seeing oil coming out of the vent hole is best. Just lets you know all the old oil has been successfully pushed out. Then cap it....but not right as you see it. If you noticed, the oil going in was gold. The few drops of oil you saw coming out the top vent hole while filling, was still black....keep pumping till you see gold. This lets you know you have 100% fresh oil in there and also, in colder climates, this ensures you have no water in the gearbox and thus no risk of freezing when storing. (Lower end oil should be changed prior to winterizing for this very reason).

What does the “wash” plug do?

👍🏻, looks like the old oil was pretty bad . I usually just leave the plug out overnight just so it’s completely drained since it’s so thick. I have that exact motor. Very fast , unfortunately I’m selling it to be replaced with newer electric start. 😏
