Hi, I just wanted to share with you I have been a American model railroad enthusiast for 41 years.I never have been interested in British railroading at all. I have been watching your videos for some time and I loved your video showcasing your different Locomotives. Thanks to you and your excellent modeling I now have a strong interest in British railroading. I find myself watching British railroading videos and I love watching your layout videos. Thank you so much for broadening my interest. P.S I am building a house with a 14' x 50' area in the basement for my version Of The L&N railroad in 1975. Thank you for what you do Pat Coleman
Do I want to spend an hour watching a locomotive being painted? Definitely not - except that it was absolutely fascinating. Your powers of observation and ability to translate that into brush strokes are simply amazing. A real lesson in what can be done if you have the patience and the skill. Brilliant, thank you!
I've watched this a few times now as after the first time I got the confidence to put one of my locos in the IPA bath and have a go. I have repainted an HO Class 66 into GBRf 66789 and your video gave me the confidence to go ahead and a point of reference at each point of the process. I'm already planning my next repaint. Thank you very much for your great videos and constant inspiration.
Everard junction is my favourite RUclips channel to just sit down and watch whilst learning new modeling techniques and information. Great video as always

Great result. Any slight imperfections will not be noticed from normal viewing positions. I have just bought an airbrush and haven't used it in anger yet! Practised with water only in the paint cup just to get used to it. I've learned a lot from this video. Thanks for sharing.
I admire your level of detail. It looks very realistic, and blends in with the coaches. I do recall mail trains and locomotives looking especially dirty back then in the Seventies and Eighties.
Definitely an inspiring video for a how to paint a model rail vehicles. Just of note the base model 31/1 used is a unrefubished 31 as you most probably know having had to remove the shirts around the buffers but there also some other features that where lost you model of 31165 still retains are the steam heat boiler exhaust on the roof, boiler water gauge and recess for it on the body side @ number 1 end (end with foor radiator fan). Also note the head code panel on either end you have left black which represents the glass panel with the black backing with the 2 clear/opaque dots for the old head code lights to glow through needs to be plated over and painted grey with two opaque lenses with a back out line to represent the rubber that held them in. Keep the videos coming 👍
Wooo words completely fail me !!! Its so amazing to watch.I could never do anything like that.Your workmanship is just outstanding, plus all the video's and tutorials. Gaining quite a collections of all your video's.Both your old layout and now this one.I thank you Richard for sharing ---Cazz
Looks really good, well done! Good to see you've got the focus and discipline to see a project through. I tend to get bored and easily distracted, and tend to end up with 20 half complete projects. Although now I've managed to maintain focus on my current project at the moment, which, hopefully will soon be complete
What a fabulous job. She looks terrific! Your video here, is quite literally, packed full of clear & simple information & you've taken what for most people, would be an extraordinarily daunting & difficult job & somehow explained it all in such a manner, to make it look easy for anyone of us, to now have a try. I am most encouraged, to have a go at repainting & weathering some of my model trains. Thank you so much, Everard Junction. You're a 'You Tube', superstar, at not only the practicalities of doing the job but you've also communicated how to do it, in such a clear, simple & effective way. I can't thank you enough, for this excellent video, which has been planned & edited so well. Quite seriously, your production here, deserves an Oscar!
Not sure folks are so scared to try adding realism to their stock as it brings them to life for sure. While I do not model British railways I always like to see what other people are doing to their layout and stock. I really enjoyed watching your video my problem is editing I am so crap at this I just babble on and have shakie videos. The more you try the better you get, I started off with an old open coal wagon then kept rubbing it clean and started again until now I show my wagons and locos off on facebook. I'm currently using lots of weathering pencils which I recently bought 37 in a box and love using them. You layout looks very realistic and glad you showed what you've been up to thanks again.
Great job Richard, looks amazing. Watching the closing sequence of shots, this is fast becoming an "exhibition standard" layout. The detail is awesome; I love the way you have designed it with photography/videography in mind - it really works. All the Best, Dougie.
I have only just discovered your channel. I have become totally hooked and this weekend I made the confession to my girlfriend that I have been spending hours watching videos about model railways. She is now hooked, too 😃. We both love the pace and style of the videos and you are an absolute genius. The way you bring every little scene to life is amazing and we have been totally immersed in your layout.
I will never have the confidence to undertake such a job. These videos do provide some much needed inspiration and motivation to undertake such a job however. Always love watching an artist at work and see how this is done and complete. A great video, Clint at Leila Central
I have the same spray booth. Used it for the first time today, to prime some models with Halfords grey primer from a rattlecan, and it is immediately filthy with overspray
Having come from wargame miniatures I confidently based on personal experience chucked the detail parts of a Hornby super detail Class 08 in a tub of dettol. Melted them.
Interesting and surprisingly relaxing video. I watched this on my phone but automatically moved it away when the spraying started so I didn't have to breathe the paint fumes!
Very enjoyable video! I have to say though, I would not have had the heart to repaint the 31. I loved it's old plain look. Well done all the same. Greetings from America!
I must say that I had mixed feelings when watching this video. I liked the original livery and the wonderful weathering this loco had. But it was a master class in painting and weathering and I enjoyed it a lot. Very good job. I liked the result. Thanks for sharing this video.
Fantastic job, Richard. The loco looks very smart. Interesting to see just how much work is involved in a full repaint. Got to say i am glad you went over the gloss varnish with the matt, the gloss not only looked way too glossy, it also showed all the spray marks. The matt totally transformed it.
Hi Richard, I’ve never seen anyone make such a good job of repainting and weathering locos and wagons, it’s a real credit to you and I guess your car restoration skills gives you the eye for the quality and detail needed. The thing that intrigues me is how you get the holes back to the correct size for the trims ie door rails etc as I assume with so many coats of paint and varnish the holes get full of paint?
This is brilliant! Thank you. Just started to turn a Canadian National SW 8 into a Canadian Pacific maroon and grey livery with the script lettering. Your video has helped a great deal in teaching me the best way to get there..
Cracking job mate. I have an airbrush kit but terrified to use it, not so much about the spraying but the cleaning afterwards. 😅 I never get enough time to finish any job, I'm usually called by the wife who's needs are much more important than mine 🤔 😆
Excellent beautifully put together educational video Richard. I have about 50 N gauge carriages ready for repaint but they will never get done...dreaded arthritis in the hands and fingers. Cheers, Bob
Hello Richard, the word genius is often over used, however the weathering of that locomotive I think puts you in that class. A huge congratulations on a job well done. Cheers Greg

Same here Dave but I think a few wagons first and even that is a bit daunting. Having seen the last video I am getting closer. Got some weathering powder to try on my stone hoppers

I have never used an Airbrush, but I have been offered on from New Zealand friend Tom and he is willing to give me lessons. He has a very large layout in his workshop. Which goes all the way around inside or the perimeter wall. If I remember the outer track is 30 metres in length. It is modelled on the North American railroad. Thanks for the tips. Martin (Thailand)
Fantastic job as usual and very timely as I'm planning on replacing my ancient Triang Hornby 31's with a couple of these models. I'll probably have to repaint them back to early BR green as mostly blue ones coming up on ebay Australia. Cheers
I love these repaint videos on your locomotives, I’m currently learning using an airbrush so it’s lovely seeing you doing it brilliantly! Fun watching this whilst struggling with tiny Photoetch parts for a Airfix 1/72 Phantom FG.1!
I have to confess to skipping ahead towards the end before watching the whole thing (I know...) - but given I've done that anyway, that end result is fantastic. Your weathering / repainting videos a few years ago were impressive enough, but this result is just incredible. Very jealous! :-)
@@EverardJunction Absolutely. I think your new layout makes that abundantly clear too. The last one was great, but it's clear even at these early stages that the mechanical construction and attention to scenic detail (especially with things like the sleeper spacing) has come on leaps and bounds here.
Nice video! Got some ideas from this one! I'm been in to repaint models, no success though. I'm going to give them a new attempt in the future, just need an airbrush and that humbrol purple putty seems very helpful! Cheers William!
I M iain I saw his layout up close and personal last month when Dean Park visited Everard junction... he’s not afraid to dismantle things.... I am though lol. Cheers. Dave
Excellent Richard. Patience and accuracy needed, and you obviously have loads of both! Not sure you should be “touching up models” in these days of #metoo though. Jim
All respect to you but I do remember the 31’s looking very weathered in their day plus I would ride these a lot in the 80’s. This model looks brilliant as it is.
Very nice indeed. One of my favourite videos of st David's was seeing 2 BR blue 31s banking a 37 with a large rake of red stripe coal hoppers up the 1/37 to Exeter Central!. I want to replicate that image one day and I'm sat here watching you paint that BR blue livery knowing I need two of those 😆 Anyway another good one.
Thanks I do love a 31. Poor things always being thrashed on heavy work they're unsuitable for. Then they put ETH on some, now that must have been slow!
I do envy how much easier it is to repaint a diesel, particularly the boxes on wheels that the later BR ones were. I prefer a steam fleet and it'll be hell trying to repaint half of them into my fictional livery.
What a truly relaxing way to spend a Sunday evening - watching the master at work. I don't know what it is but there is something about Richard's videos that never disappoints. I'm subscribed to a number of other model railway channels but rarely watch them from start to finish unlike Everard Junction. It's always a joy to see that notification icon appear for EJ - it signals a little me time for one. You are a very talented modeller and certainly set the bar very high for other channels. When I compare the attention to detail you present to the other channels they simply don't meet your high standards. Please don't stop what you are doing - your dedication to perfection is awesome.
I haven't even got a layout. I just find it so relaxing.

I M iain I saw his layout up close and personal last month when Dean Park visited Everard junction... he’s not afraid to dismantle things.... I am though lol. Cheers. Dave

After looking at yours too, I'm not so sure mate. You're both in a "class" md your own ;-) Iain
This will prove helpful as i plan to paint mine into blue BR livery from rail freight much the opposite of your re spray, excellent video
You make this look so easy but i know if i had a go it would look like a 5 year old had done it. Well done .
Really good, you are so lucky to have a Hornby 31 that has not exploded due to chassis rot, mine did
Brilliant video. The 31 looks fantastic
Excellent Richard. Patience and accuracy needed, and you obviously have loads of both! Not sure you should be “touching up models” in these days of #metoo though.
Jim
Awesome Richard!!! Just awesome!!!! Cheers Onno.
Excellent video and excellent results. It looks really good running on the layout.
Excellent video and modelling skills again Richard. Slight shame about the incorrect headcode panels, but otherwise a very impressive looking model.
All respect to you but I do remember the 31’s looking very weathered in their day plus I would ride these a lot in the 80’s.
This model looks brilliant as it is.
A great video as i do a lot of repaints myself it's nice to see some else enjoying it as well cheers for sharing.
It's just awesome viewing Richard
Thank you so much, I'm currently respraying a DBSO so this was very helpful
Great job mate, well done, thank for a thorough video on detailing, engine looks great
be good to see some steam rail on your layout too
My favourite diesel loco and, as I have two identical ones, an excellent tutorial to change one of them
Very nice indeed.
One of my favourite videos of st David's was seeing 2 BR blue 31s banking a 37 with a large rake of red stripe coal hoppers up the 1/37 to Exeter Central!. I want to replicate that image one day and I'm sat here watching you paint that BR blue livery knowing I need two of those 😆
Anyway another good one.
Thanks, comments like this make it all worthwhile. More videos on the way as always, cheers.
Totally agree many thanks to Richard
Great piece of work and very entertaining to watch.
Very impressive work, and I Iearnt a lot from all the trouble you took, thank you.
