I think not understanding the turning chain is one of the biggest issues that beginners face. Before RUclips, I tried to teach myself with a beginner crochet book, and my edges were always irregular. Somehow, the diagrams weren't enough to help me to understand.

I think it would be handy to do a video about rounds... In rounds or in tubes. At some point when I join the last stitch in a round I do a stitch or two to raise the height then work around again.... And at some point along the work this ‘raising’ stitch gets used as a regular stitch... And I find myself working in a spiral. Every time! I'm sure I am not alone.

I am not a fan of the turning chain! I feel you get a much straighter edge with a standing stitch.

Not sure why I do it, but I only do 2 turning chains... To me it cuts out that weird gap

Thank you! I really needed this explanation lol. I’m not a static visual learner and having it shown in such an easy to follow way made all the difference!

Thank you for explaining the beginning first chain. Since I have been watching your channel, my crocheting has greatly improved . I now have a greater understanding. A month ago I was having trouble with uneven stitches. Since your video, I've gone on to make a poncho and I am now doing a blanket. Your videos are very informative. Thank you! Have a blessed week❤❤
