This is one of the most extraordinary things I've ever seen! The playing is beyond extraordinary for a pianist of any age! Thank-you Ed! You've certainly put a smile on my face - everybody I've shown this clip to has been moved and inspired. It's hard to know just how amazing this is if you haven't attempted stride playing like that yourself - but ask any pianist who has, it's astonishing. Bravo Ed! Keep it up!

As someone who has been immersed in the popular music of 1910-1930 and was fortunate to have interviewed, through an oral-history project funded by Gustave Haenschen, most every musician whose careers he helped shape (Isham Jones, Artie Shaw, Jimmy Lytell, Nick Lucas, et al.), I am astounded by every performance of the Original Cornell Syncopators. Their playing embodies the spirit of that era-and I suspect that Ed Clute has more than a little to do with their inspiration. Not only has he been my friend for almost 50 years, his house-guest was none other than Paul Whiteman!
