Life is definitely not as complicated as some of the other Spheres. Life and Forces are pretty "what you see is what you get." Matter as well might be similar. But like all the Spheres, you can do some seriously freaky stuff with it.
I am still watching these videos in sequence, but I must say that they are extremely well done, informative and helpful. I really appreciate this series.
Oh wow, thank you so much! I'm glad you are enjoying them and that they've been helpful. That was the entire point of making them. Mission accomplished! Ha ha!
I wonder what would be required for a mage who got shot with a bullet, to at the moment of impact, shatter into broken glass or a flock of doves and reappear elsewhere nearby unharmed. I'm thinking correspondence would be involved for sure, at least for the first part. And if the doves are an illusion and not real doves I can see it being forces to bend light into the shape you want it to. But for it to be actual tangible effects it would be matter for the shattered glass effect, correspondence for the teleport and maybe forces? As for the doves, it would be life, correspondence and probably another sphere I can't think of. Just a fun thought I had.
Yeah you would definitely need Correspondence and Forces to be certain, Life and or Matter depending on the effect if it's real, Forces if it's not real. Prime if you are conjuring this illusion or reality out of nothing, because anytime you make something from nothing you need Prime. Also this effect would be SOOOO vulgar it might get an extremely high difficulty. Alternatively, if your mage was also a well known special effects / stage illusionist, you could pull it off and have it be coincidental if you managed to frame it as part of an act.
Life doesn't seem to scale the same as Prime, Spirit or Time. Level 2 is really lame. In your opinion, what combination of spheres would it take to transform into a werewolf Crinos form for a limited time. Life 3 (or 4?) for sure, Prime three to get Aggro damage, Matter to increase size?
Life is a slower curve than the other Spheres to be sure. To transform into a Crinos Form werewolf for a limited time I would say you'd need Life 4, Prime 3, Spirit 3. At the least.
thats great news. From what I was reading, I thought it would just be Prime 3 and Life 3. So a starting Mage would be able to do it. That would be kinda silly.
Yeah there should be no way a starting Mage should be able to pull that off. Of course, like everything, it's entirely up to the Storyteller if he or she will even allow that to happen. Some will...some won't. There is an argument to be made that Gaia might resist such a spell in the attempt to be cast. Also there is a possibility that Mind might be needed as well, in order to acclimate a human mind with a non human body. I could also see a potential need for Life 5 instead of Life 4, if the Mage wanted the regenerative abilities of a Crinos werewolf instead of just the shape of one.
the mage is a Verbena werewolf Kinfolk. The human child of a werewolf and human who didn't get the gene to turn into a werewolf. Her goal is to use Magic to do what nature did not.
Oh, nice. That's a neat character concept, to be sure. I don't know how your Storyteller runs/handles Werewolves in your game, but I would be remiss as an ST if I didn't warn you that the Garou might not look kindly upon that sort of thing. Not that I'm saying you shouldn't go for it. As I said it's a really interesting character concept. Just be aware of the consequences.
Just started playing Mage and this series is invaluable. I love your opening animation. I'm debating to get my 4th sphere in either Prime or Life. Which would you recommend?
Hard choice...both are valuable additions but for a Verbena....Life 4 can open up a lot of avenues for fun magic. Prime 4 is very useful as well, more so if you are a mage who does a lot of crafting of magic talismans and such.
@@PravisWheelhouse this is my first Mage game and when I built the character, I wanted him to have an army of city animals he could control. Unfortunately, Life magic doesn't really work that way. Then again, I think I could make him into Wolverine with Life 4.
@@jamiebaker6516 I'm a bit late, but for future reference, you could go for Mind 2 instead in order to start having your animal army (iirc, Life 4 would be 21 XP, and Mind 2 would be 18). Of course, you'd probably need a teacher or something for that. Alternatively, you could use Life to alter the hormonal state of animals and make them see you as one of them, or as a leader of the pack. That'd be harder than using mind magick, but that's the whole point : you can do one thing very differently with different spheres :)
I feel like Life is one of the easier Spheres to wrap your head around, and a good start for people new to the game.

for context, i have 3 life, 3 prime, and 2 matter and I'm a Verbena who works as a zookeeper.
