I just wanted to say thanks for posting this. I was looking for a workhorse to split the load with my then-MK2S when you posted this, and this video convinced me to grab a Mega. I've had it over a year now, and the only changes I've made to it are replacing the belts, (they were shedding) and last month adding the Mega-S upgrade. This thing requires basically no maintenance other than occasional cleaning filament and wiping off the rods and giving them a shot of oil. The bed's only lost level once, and that was last week when some Ninjaflex (yes, the S upgrade let's you print that crazy spaghetti) bonded way too well to the bed. It prints almost as well as my MK3S in most cases, assembly required whole eight screws and three plugs, the upgrade required four screws and one plug, it hasn't so much as jammed on me once, and it's never had any downtime. I love this tiny tank. Btw, if anyone else is emboldened by this post to print NF on a Mega-S or suitably-modified Mega, use some 95A TPU or PLA for the first layer to get the print to come off easy. If you use PLA, it'll flex just enough less to delam with minimal effort, leaving you with an entirely NF part. Not kidding about how well this thing prints it either. Had a squishy Benchy that had readable text on the back, even though the top of the boat looked like a spider nest.
I picked this model up as my first 3d printer after your first review. Had a few stumbling block but have learnt fast and definitely feel this is a great first time printer. To all those first timers that are considering it I would second Devin's recommendation, just dump the supplied SD card and replace it with a decent one! Thanks Devin

I belong to a "makerspace" and have been using a $4,500 printer there and I can honestly say this printer produces equal quality prints (in PLA). I paid $369 at GearBest which included shipping. When you receive the i3, they include a large reel of black PLA, a spare nozzle (!), an 8 gig SD card with a USB adapter, a spare limit switch (what?) and all the tools you will need to tear the thing completely down. It took me about 20 minutes to put the machine together, and that's only because I actually read the manual. Easy as could be. Very satisfied with this little thing, and I'm about to head down to the makerspace to show off the work it does.

I don't even do any 3D printing but have a deep appreciation and respect of crafts and all that jazz, no matter where it is on the spectrum, but the knowledge that this is a good printer is good knowledge to have if ever me or anyone close delve into 3D printing. I may well be an undiagnosed knowledge hoarder but that is another story for another day ;-)
I JUST bought a Anycubic Mega-S todayt and did my first test print (owl_pair) not too long ago. They turned out GREAT and I'm already IN LOVE with this printer. The moment I got done with my owl prints I was immediately ready to start a new project. Unfortunately, I have a Google Chromebook and what I quickly began sensing is that while many fans admire these machines, the 3D printing industry doesn't seem to have a lot of love for the Anycubic or Chromebooks in general. I've been on many slicer and printer websites, and not many mention the Anycubic or Chromebooks as their solutions for designing or slicing. That being said, I have what I have, and as a beginner,, I love what I have and I'm looking for as much information I can get on how to print, and get getting print quality, using these two machines. What I'm looking for are CLEAR, CONCISE instructions on how to accomplish the whole process of 3D printings using what I have. As the Anycubic's chosen softwareI really need Cura on my system. ANYBODY that could help me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
Something to be aware of is that there are currently two variants of the i3 Mega Ultrabase. There is the older Mega03, which uses an 8-bit controller board (Trigorilla), unsoldered A4988 stepper motor drivers (allowing for upgrades) and a separate SD card slot and ribbon cable. This version does not read embedded folders on the SD card (either SD card reader dependent or LCD dependent or both). The other version is the Mega04, which has a 32-bit controller board (Trigorilla Pro) and SD card reader in one. This version has soldered A4988 stepper motor drivers (upgrading the drivers is not possible), and the SD card reader and/or LCD is able to navigate embedded folders on the SD card. An argument can be made that the Mega03 might be better for upgrading and repairing.
Right on the money with this review. I've had mine for about 5 months and it has been a workhorse. It was my first printer too, and everything from the ui to the filament sensor was perfect for someone like me as a beginner.
This review came at the PERFECT time. I was literally looking at the i3 mega yesterday and thought about getting it(subscribed to you yesterday as well) and now you made a review about that very printer.
I bought this printer for my nephew for his first 3d printer and after some trial and error it has been great. I think I've enjoyed it almost as much as he has. Still tweaking the settings but so far so good.
If you have problems with your mega don't look for hardware issues first, i stripped mine down twice checking component by component, and it turned out to be the SDCARD, for some reason timing is critical and turned out some cards only work sometimes... Don't cut corners get the fastest brand name card you can, size is irrelevant, but speed and quality is... If it can't read the directory or the print stops for no reason swap the SDCARD first. For stability, quality and cost its one of the best. But it's noisy and only an average print size... The base is one of the best for adhesion and releasing prints when cold.
I bought one of these 3 months ago... very happy with it. I got it over CR-10 because of the steel frame, which was important due to me having a 2 and 5 year old that would quite easily bump or touch it.
Do you think I could print springos with this? I love all your designs, especially the pineapple, and I tried to print it on my XYZ Da Vinci MiniMaker, and nothing worked :(
David I had no problems with it till now so yeah I like it. I can't really compare it to any other 3D printers since this is the first one I actually have at home and don't just send the file to someone else to print something for me. It's easy to use and has pretty good quality.
I ended up buying this printer over some other options and this video really swayed me in the right direction. Oh and your opinions are understatements this printer is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!1
If you have this or having trouble with adhesion I bought like a plastic pad thing that sticks to the bed from Buildtech or something like that so I can just print with no having to use hairspray or glue prior to printing I have the i3 Mega S and I love it strongly recommend it and takes barely any time to assemble

I got this printer for over a year now as well. The only problem I have is that the middle is higher up then the corners, which is kind of annoying. Also the bed is getting scratched and a few black "pieces" have come off. Another thing ist hat the touchscreen got something behind it from when i first got it, which made it hard to touch it at the top. Other than that it's a great printer for sure.
2:46 I dont agree with you! My anycubic i3 mega is impossible to level, when all the corners are perfectly aligned with a piece of paper, the center is way too high and the same piece of paper wont pass through!
fr2632 I’ve run into this issue with my mega-s as well. This is a machine that’s made in China and trust me, it will never be machined well enough for all the points to match. What I do instead is to just ignore it, since the nozzle goes a little higher when printing.
@@s3ab1rd So 2 years ago I opened a dispute with aliexpress (where I brought it) and they send me a new heating bed with a new glas etc, I replaced the whole thing and now it levels perfectly. So I guess the old bed was warped or something
Good review, I think I might pick one of these up. Just sent back a Geeetech A30 because it was complete junk. The experience with that has put me off of a Cr10 because the design looks very similar.
I just got one of these and mine doesn't have the auto bed leveling, and considering its my first 3d printer I am having extreme difficulty leveling the bed. If you have any tips for me on how to level the bed better that would be much appreciated.
First, tighten all the screws to lower the bed (twist right). Then home, disable steppers, and manually move the print head above each screw. Raise the corners one at a time until a piece of paper just barely slips between the bed and nozzle. Check each corner a few times and your bed should stay level for a long time.
Considering this as an upgrade to my reliable XYZ DaVinci Pro Jr., which seems like a toy now compared to the Anycubic. Thanks! I love the details you have paid attention too as well as that multiple piece torture test! You have helped me make my mind up.
The I3 Mega is an awesome printer once you have it dialed in. Reliable is the key. No way I would purchase a CR10, when this machine is more solid and has easy touch screen access and a great ultrabase. I have suggested to the Manufacturer to consider making a 400mm x 400mm by 400mm I3 "Super Mega" perhaps?, with the same features. No need to change something that works great, just increase the build volume and size the electronics according to power requirements, in particular for the heating parts. A very minor con on one of mine has been the ultrabase being slightly not flat with a slight higher center could be that the glass was not made totally flat or the aluminum base to witch it is attached was not level itself before joining the glass to it. My experience in manufacturing tells me itwas the first. I've taken the risk to carefully put a bit of pressure on the ultrabase and this has taken a bit of the center heigh which was off by about 0.2 mm. The extra complete hot head that Anycubic provides with the machines has come in very handy after printing so many great parts, hundreds of them, I ended up having to replace the hot head to regain the same first print quality. The nozzle being brass will wear out as any similar nozzle will, with time and use, and particular when you print various types of filaments, especially exotics like wood filled, fg or carbon filled. I Stricly use each machine for its dedicated filament and try not to mix filaments into the same machine to keep the prints more consistent. Changing the hot end is not a big deal, remove the back and top screws to have access to the hot end. I rather the machine have more screws than not enough.
Stuff I Made I honestly think that the Anycubic i3 Mega is a better bang for your buck. The mk3 is better at printing advanced materials, with a genuine e3d hotend and filament jam protection. It overall has a thinner build with high quality control boards, sensors, and extruder systems. The Anycubic i3 Mega in contrast has a heavier build overall, whilst printing with similar reliability and better touch screen interaction. It is better suited for beginners costing 1/3 the price of the mk3. My Anycubic has printed amazing and I honestly can't ask for better print quality.
random note: the technical build hieght is 205 but I can never get higher than 208 without jamming and getting my X axis stuck to the top part. the ptfe tube and cabes all just rub on there and get pulled and all. so be careful. probably check yours to see how high it goes before the cables get stuck... i don't understand the "roof" it's so dumb in some ways.
Would yo recommend this printer as a first printer today in 2019? I can grab this thing for under $200 shipped. Looks pretty solidly build and with minimal "putting together" out of the box.

Can you help me with something. I have a anycubic i3 mega and when I download prints and put them in the printer it warms up then doesn’t print. Do you know what’s wrong with it?
Nick Sergiou I had that kind of problem once, and I found out that the included SD card was a bit cheap ( I had the TEVO tarantula, but I think it will be the same for every printer ) and that it was broken. Try another SD card, and check of you put a Gcode file on it when you put it in the printer. Any Sd card is fine, even the ones that you use for cameras. I hope this was helpfull!
Hey Devin, I'm really impressed with my i3 Mega ( rev 2 with Ultrabase and filament sensor included ). Mr and Mrs owl were corrupt on the SD card, but reslicing the stl produced phenomenal results. I have great confidence with it. Cheers, JAYTEE
wowie wowie That’s called a skirt. When you’re making the files that you want to print, you can select several different things that you want the printer to do before you print the actual part. The most common one is the skirt. The software tells the printer to make an outline or two around the print before it starts. This serves to prime the nozzle so that once you actually begin to print the part, your nozzle has stable pressure inside from the molten filament. It can also clear out old filament if you didn’t purge your nozzle fully before switching filaments. Basically, it helps to improve the quality of the first layer without wasting much plastic. Other things of this nature include rafts and brims. Brims are just skirts that are connected to the part. This can help it to stick down if the first layer is very small. Rafts, on the other hand, create a sort of scaffold between the print bed and the first layer of your part. This helps increase quality if your print bed isn’t completely flat or has irregularities. Hope that helped!
Im sorry but i just can’t. I have had my i3 mega for 2 and almost 3 years now. I have Ben trouble shooting for the entire time and i have not gotten 1 half decent print. I have tried so many things but i just can’t seem to get it right. I don’t know if it’s the print settings or the printer it’s self. Im just sad that this is what i got on my first experience.

I have this printer myself and it is indeed a very good printer. I've just didn't get around to buying that special buildplate. that might be a good upgrade.
If you printed for 5 months with it, you should give us a well lit video of all of your prints so we can see what we would have from the machine for different projects.
Thanks for the informative video Stefan. Can the Anycubic i3 Mega also print with ASA filaments ? Also i learnt that some models may need support structures parallely being built along with the model itself. How does the anycubic i3 Mega handle such models ?
The Tock Tock Tock is the extruder steppermotor skipping steps. The Motor is not strong enough to push the filament and therefore skips. This can have a few causes: Temperature too low, -> PLA should be fine with 190centigrade up, but try and go a little higher and see if that helps (195C, 200C, 205C ish). Extruder Screw for grabbing the filament too tight, -> try to loose it a bit, (see if the filament gets "gnarled" by the hobbed gear, if so, clean it) Nozzle/Heatbreak Clogged,-> start with a "Cold Pull" (Google this first!) if necessary disassemble the HotEnd and clean it.
I agree with other responses. It sounds like a clogged or underheated nozzle. If it has never fed filament it could also be that the PTFE tube isn't pushed all the way into the hot end and the filament isn't feeding through smoothly or something like that.
When you first get into 3D printing the first thing you'll quickly realize is that after a few projects you want to be able to build bigger and bigger things. In my opinion go with the I3 Mega, both of them will have a learning curve but once you get the hang of printing the I3 will let you complete much larger projects, feel free to message me if you have any more questions!
@@fifamia8058 I agree, unless you'd like to go into miniatures or accessories. Bigger definitely helps but takes more space too! As for really big prints, you can eventually learn to 'cut' the model into multiple pieces and glue them together afterwards.
how about now that anycubic is having a sale on these printers. the I3 mega is at 209$ right now, which puts it in the price bracket of the ender 3, and even the Mega - S is only 249 dollars as well.
I have this and a cr-10 I can't seem to get fine layer settings to print. I can't print decent if I set layer height to .15 or higher but I can't go down to .1 for some reason so what I did was made this a dedicated high temp printer for ABS and nylon. All I did was swap the ptfe to capricorn since the throat uses the bowden tube as its liner. Its still a good printer just not as good as everyone says IMO. If you want an all around printer this is great if you just need PLA then the ender 2 or cr-10 might be better. BUT that ultra base is amazing.
Is it healthy to have this in your room? I live in a studenthouse and I am wondering if you need to have an exhaust or something like that? Or can I just plug it in, next to my desktop? I really would like to buy this 3D printer, but I am just wondering what i need to consider before just buying it. Thank you
Anybody else having problems with the extruder not having enough torque on this machine? Just got mine and it won’t catch filament at all :( I’m not new to printing but this is very frustrating. Send help please

nice video. is there a straight change over chip for driving the stepper motors, some users say that they are noise, as I live in a house with wood floors noise is a great consideration to me and neighbours.
What print setting are you using. I get little blobs when I print objects with the printer. Ive messed with coasting and retraction but can't seem to get it right. If you could please share you coasting and retraction settings that would be great.
Lower the print bed. If that hurts adhesion, you might need to use hairspray or gluestick (although the ultrabase on my i3 mega printers have been great). Otherwise, you can just print with a raft, or just live with a bit of elephant foot
@@make.anything my actual problem with elephant foot when I print functional parts like your fidget spinner (geared model) gears stick the outer wall or stick each other and they don't move

Im looking to get into 3D Printing for making custom detailed game board pieces. Ive seen some bad reviews about longer prints on this machine (2+ Hrs) my only question is how does this do with longer print times.
Hey i bought the Anycubic Mega-S and never got a single print out of it, not even the demo. On top of the bed being so difficult to get perfectly level I'm having an issue where the feeding mechanism is slowed to a crawl (almost not moving at all) where the extruder pushes nothing out the hotend, its frustrating i updated to 1.1.3 yesterday and i dont know what else to do maybe i have a bad part on my BRAND NEW S printer i dont know for sure just hit me back with some solutions please.

Anycubic is amazing! I am currently using their Kossel mini, and it's just so amazing for it's price.

i just recently got a CR-10 because it was only 260€ (315$) for a short while on gearbest and i thought why not!

Cards need to be formatted as FAT32 or they will not work.

2:46 I dont agree with you! My anycubic i3 mega is impossible to level, when all the corners are perfectly aligned with a piece of paper, the center is way too high and the same piece of paper wont pass through!
fr2632 I’ve run into this issue with my mega-s as well. This is a machine that’s made in China and trust me, it will never be machined well enough for all the points to match. What I do instead is to just ignore it, since the nozzle goes a little higher when printing.
Personally I've calibrated the bed in the software, pretty simple

@@s3ab1rd So 2 years ago I opened a dispute with aliexpress (where I brought it) and they send me a new heating bed with a new glas etc, I replaced the whole thing and now it levels perfectly. So I guess the old bed was warped or something
Good review, I think I might pick one of these up. Just sent back a Geeetech A30 because it was complete junk. The experience with that has put me off of a Cr10 because the design looks very similar.
I just got one of these and mine doesn't have the auto bed leveling, and considering its my first 3d printer I am having extreme difficulty leveling the bed. If you have any tips for me on how to level the bed better that would be much appreciated.
First, tighten all the screws to lower the bed (twist right). Then home, disable steppers, and manually move the print head above each screw. Raise the corners one at a time until a piece of paper just barely slips between the bed and nozzle. Check each corner a few times and your bed should stay level for a long time.

Is it a thing to remove filament after print to avoid clogging?? Like with the 3D Pens.
The I3 Mega is an awesome printer once you have it dialed in. Reliable is the key. No way I would purchase a CR10, when this machine is more solid and has easy touch screen access and a great ultrabase. I have suggested to the Manufacturer to consider making a 400mm x 400mm by 400mm I3 "Super Mega" perhaps?, with the same features. No need to change something that works great, just increase the build volume and size the electronics according to power requirements, in particular for the heating parts. A very minor con on one of mine has been the ultrabase being slightly not flat with a slight higher center could be that the glass was not made totally flat or the aluminum base to witch it is attached was not level itself before joining the glass to it. My experience in manufacturing tells me itwas the first. I've taken the risk to carefully put a bit of pressure on the ultrabase and this has taken a bit of the center heigh which was off by about 0.2 mm. The extra complete hot head that Anycubic provides with the machines has come in very handy after printing so many great parts, hundreds of them, I ended up having to replace the hot head to regain the same first print quality. The nozzle being brass will wear out as any similar nozzle will, with time and use, and particular when you print various types of filaments, especially exotics like wood filled, fg or carbon filled. I Stricly use each machine for its dedicated filament and try not to mix filaments into the same machine to keep the prints more consistent. Changing the hot end is not a big deal, remove the back and top screws to have access to the hot end. I rather the machine have more screws than not enough.
Do have any opinions on the Prusa MK3, better or worse than the Anycubic i3 Mega?
Stuff I Made I honestly think that the Anycubic i3 Mega is a better bang for your buck. The mk3 is better at printing advanced materials, with a genuine e3d hotend and filament jam protection. It overall has a thinner build with high quality control boards, sensors, and extruder systems. The Anycubic i3 Mega in contrast has a heavier build overall, whilst printing with similar reliability and better touch screen interaction. It is better suited for beginners costing 1/3 the price of the mk3. My Anycubic has printed amazing and I honestly can't ask for better print quality.

random note: the technical build hieght is 205 but I can never get higher than 208 without jamming and getting my X axis stuck to the top part. the ptfe tube and cabes all just rub on there and get pulled and all. so be careful. probably check yours to see how high it goes before the cables get stuck... i don't understand the "roof" it's so dumb in some ways.

Nick Sergiou I had that kind of problem once, and I found out that the included SD card was a bit cheap ( I had the TEVO tarantula, but I think it will be the same for every printer ) and that it was broken. Try another SD card, and check of you put a Gcode file on it when you put it in the printer. Any Sd card is fine, even the ones that you use for cameras. I hope this was helpfull!

Hey Devin, I'm really impressed with my i3 Mega ( rev 2 with Ultrabase and filament sensor included ). Mr and Mrs owl were corrupt on the SD card, but reslicing the stl produced phenomenal results. I have great confidence with it. Cheers, JAYTEE

can this printer print polycarbonate filament and carbonfibre nylon filament?
I have a question, why is there always an outline around the print?
wowie wowie That’s called a skirt. When you’re making the files that you want to print, you can select several different things that you want the printer to do before you print the actual part. The most common one is the skirt. The software tells the printer to make an outline or two around the print before it starts. This serves to prime the nozzle so that once you actually begin to print the part, your nozzle has stable pressure inside from the molten filament. It can also clear out old filament if you didn’t purge your nozzle fully before switching filaments. Basically, it helps to improve the quality of the first layer without wasting much plastic. Other things of this nature include rafts and brims. Brims are just skirts that are connected to the part. This can help it to stick down if the first layer is very small. Rafts, on the other hand, create a sort of scaffold between the print bed and the first layer of your part. This helps increase quality if your print bed isn’t completely flat or has irregularities. For the anycubic i3 mega d you have to use CURA for the software if so how do you get shapes to make your own model of what u want to print
Im sorry but i just can’t. I have had my i3 mega for 2 and almost 3 years now. I have Ben trouble shooting for the entire time and i have not gotten 1 half decent print. I have tried so many things but i just can’t seem to get it right. I don’t know if it’s the print settings or the printer it’s self. Im just sad that this is what i got on my first experience.

the tock tock tocks are probably coming from the extruder? Maybe because of a clogged nozzle?
The Tock Tock Tock is the extruder steppermotor skipping steps.
The Motor is not strong enough to push the filament and therefore skips.
This can have a few causes:
Temperature too low, -> PLA should be fine with 190centigrade up, but try and go a little higher and see if that helps (195C, 200C, 205C ish).
Extruder Screw for grabbing the filament too tight, -> try to loose it a bit, (see if the filament gets "gnarled" by the hobbed gear, if so, clean it)
Nozzle/Heatbreak Clogged,-> start with a "Cold Pull" (Google this first!) if necessary disassemble the HotEnd and clean it.

I agree with other responses. It sounds like a clogged or underheated nozzle. If it has never fed filament it could also be that the PTFE tube isn't pushed all the way into the hot end and the filament isn't feeding through smoothly or something like that.

When you first get into 3D printing the first thing you'll quickly realize is that after a few projects you want to be able to build bigger and bigger things. In my opinion go with the I3 Mega, both of them will have a learning curve but once you get the hang of printing the I3 will let you complete much larger projects, feel free to message me if you have any more questions!
@@fifamia8058 I agree, unless you'd like to go into miniatures or accessories. Bigger definitely helps but takes more space too! As for really big prints, you can eventually learn to 'cut' the model into multiple pieces and glue them together afterwards.

Hello, I am a beginner 3d printer and I am wondering what you settings are for the anycubic i3 mega.
Do you need an SD card or can you connect straight to a PC. Great video for a complete newbie to 3D printing.
You can connect to a PC but then if your computer turns off during printing, the print stops.. I find SD cards best for reliability :)

I have this and a cr-10 I can't seem to get fine layer settings to print. I can't print decent if I set layer height to .15 or higher but I can't go down to .1 for some reason so what I did was made this a dedicated high temp printer for ABS and nylon. All I did was swap the ptfe to capricorn since the throat uses the bowden tube as its liner. Its still a good printer just not as good as everyone says IMO. If you want an all around printer this is great if you just need PLA then the ender 2 or cr-10 might be better. BUT that ultra base is amazing.

Where is the knob for the AnyCubic i3 Mega, I can't find it on your link.
What print setting are you using. I get little blobs when I print objects with the printer. Ive messed with coasting and retraction but can't seem to get it right. If you could please share you coasting and retraction settings that would be great.
I have bought Anycubic Mega S and using for 1 week in my prints I have Elephant foot effect. Do you have any suggestion for the solution
Lower the print bed. If that hurts adhesion, you might need to use hairspray or gluestick (although the ultrabase on my i3 mega printers have been great). Otherwise, you can just print with a raft, or just live with a bit of elephant foot
@@make.anything my actual problem with elephant foot when I print functional parts like your fidget spinner (geared model) gears stick the outer wall or stick each other and they don't move

Im looking to get into 3D Printing for making custom detailed game board pieces. Ive seen some bad reviews about longer prints on this machine (2+ Hrs) my only question is how does this do with longer print times.
Hey i bought the Anycubic Mega-S and never got a single print out of it, not even the demo. On top of the bed being so difficult to get perfectly level I'm having an issue where the feeding mechanism is slowed to a crawl (almost not moving at all) where the extruder pushes nothing out the hotend, its frustrating i updated to 1.1.3 yesterday and i dont know what else to do maybe i have a bad part on my BRAND NEW S printer i dont know for sure just hit me back with some solutions please.
