    For large embossed extrusions, I've used chamfered letters/logos to eliminate the need for supports.

    The conclusion is the same but it all comes down to the nozzle size. Layer height is never that much nigher is even the nozzle diameter. Thus, embossing text using vertical plane should always come out better than the top or bottom surfaces.
    I.e. for a 0.4 mm nozzle that resolution in X & Y vs 0.3 mm or LESS in Z-axis.

    rather then using extrude, Fusion360 has a dedicated emboss feature
