      Inflation is not a problem if you don't live there, as the exchange rates usually rise more than the prices. And seriously, in bygone eras Argentina had several bouts of really maddening hyperinflation, to the order of 30% A MONTH (not a year)! The current inflation rates are child's play to them compared to that, and they survived.

It's no exaggeration to say that Buenos Aires is one of the most fabulous cities on the planet, it's the truth, on a par in charm and fun with the top premium destinations in Europe. And mind you, it's a Brazilian who's telling you that -- we have a very strong rivalry with the Argentines (something like the British and the French), but we all love Buenos Aires (so much that if you notice, there are also signs in Portuguese at the airport, for the millions of Brazilian tourists who keep coming all the time), and we envy the Argentines for having a city like that.

All flights were economy. For a surprise was the short LAN Chile flight (ca. 30 minutes) from Rio Galegos in Argentina (RGL) to Punta Arenas in Chile. The aircraft came froh the Falkland Islands! A lot of british people were on board and some argentinan war veterans! The time for landing in Rio Galegos came as information on the airport display short before. On my question where is the flight information nobody wanted to answer.

    • @goytabr
      @goytabr 4 года назад

      LATAM now has a bimonthly flight from São Paulo-GRU to Mount Pleasant in the Falklands on a Boeing 767-300ER. The flight isn't advertised and you have some trouble booking it and even checking in and finding your gate at GRU. They're being very discreet and careful in order not to offend Argentine sensitivities. Predictably, the flight is mostly empty, but it's not unprofitable for two reasons: first, it's chartered by the Falklands government to minimize the islands' isolation, and second, its main purpose is to carry cargo in the holds, mostly fresh produce and consumer goods, to supply the islands' market.
      The Argentine government is aware of it, of course, but it's looking the other way, as it's interesting to them to keep a channel open for contact with the islands, even if not officially supported. Once a month, the flight stops in Córdoba, Argentina. The plane parks in a remote position on the apron and they try to be as discreet as possible, lest the airport workers might refuse to service the flight, but there have been no problems, exactly because the Argentine government can't officially support the flight, but behind the scenes it does.

    • @mayvillefinestdancer

      @@goytabr the Argentine government doesn't look the other way. It was authorized by the Argentine government in talks with the British.

    • @goytabr
      @goytabr 3 года назад

      @@mayvillefinestdancer, of course it was authorized, otherwise the plane wouldn't stop in Córdoba once a month (well, it would be really ironic if it stopped in Rosario instead -- the airport there, which used to have the very English name of Fisherton Airport, is now called "Malvinas Argentinas"...). But the entire operation has a clandestine feel to it. It's not advertised, it doesn't appear on the flight information panels at GRU or COR, and there is all that hush operation at COR, with the plane parked far away and all. So, the Argentine government isn't looking at the operation right in the eyes -- just with a corner of them, and it's trying its best not to acknowledge it publicly (and the Brazilian government and LATAM itself are doing the same, for diplomatic reasons). It's reminiscent of that legendary and equally mysterious "Air Sinai"-branded Egyptair flight from Cairo to Tel Aviv.
      Well, I've used the present tense, but I don't even know if the GRU-MPN flight is still operating, given the many flight cancellations and the COVID-19 closed borders. I guess at least the stop at COR must have been cancelled, as Argentina's borders have become some of the most hermetically sealed in the world since the pandemic started.

    Aerolíneas Argentinas' quality of service greatly depends on who runs the government in Argentina, and how well the relationship with the airline employees' union is.
    Aside fron that, it's commonplace among South Americans to get up and get their stuff while the plane is still taxiing after landing. It even happens on ferries when everyone rushes to the gates before the ferry dock and gets secured into the pier.

      But the level of violence and murder in Cape Town is the highest in the world ... worse than the worst slums of Rio ....everyone I know who has been to Cape Town as a tourist in the late 3 ' 4 years has been mugged, assaulted, a lady friend was raped in broad daylight in the city centre and another dear Argentine friend who was staying in a very upscale hotel was shot to death over his Rolex watch ... in front of the hotel security guards who did nothing. You were lucky. Aerolíneas' on-board service is usually okay, not stellar, but when things go wrong, they go REALLY wrong! Lots of strikes cancelling flights and the airline just shrugs and leaves passengers stranded. Same thing with weather cancellations and such, no help with rebookings and so on. They have a really bad reputation regarding customer service in South America. And there were NO forest fires "in" São Paulo, they were in the Amazon, which is 3000 km from São Paulo (about the distance from London to Istanbul), though a smoke cloud did reach the city on only one day. Unfortunately, the Amazon fires have NOT been put out so far -- on the contrary, new spots are still appearing. 🙁
    And some remarks about the pronunciation of place names: "Ezeiza" is "eh-SAY-sah" ("Z" in Spanish is pronounced like an "S", they have the letter but not the English "Z" sound), "Iguazú" is "ee-gwah-SOO" (the accent indicates the tonic syllable), "Ushuaia" is "ooss-WHY-ah" ("H" is mute in Spanish, except in "CH", which is the same as in English), and you almost made it with "Guarulhos", except that the Portuguese "LH" is pronounced "LY" (similar to European Spanish "LL"), so it's approximately "gwah-ROO-lyus".

      Goytá F. Villela Jr. I agree with “when things go wrong they go really wrong”. Some years ago when I lived in Montevideo we showed up for Aerolineas flight to Aeroparque. The flight was cancelled and all of the ground staff went into hiding, so we were just left standing in the airport. Hopefully things have improved since then. The 32” seat pitch is okay, but I imagine he is comparing this to European carriers where you are packed in like battery hens.

    • @guidosantos3813

      Goytá F. Villela Jr. Hello mate. One thing I would like to tell you is that Aerolineas Argentinas was awarded by travelers as the best major airline in Latin America. Not only getting brave reviews in the punctuality of their flights, but in their general service. The professionals and the equipment of this airline are remarkable and this can be noticed in the service

    • @goytabr
      @goytabr 5 лет назад +1

      @@guidosantos3813 , you didn't have to tell me that, as Noel himself mentioned it. And it wasn't "travelers" who awarded Aerolíneas the title, it was Skytrax, which sells ratings to the highest bidder and is the same company that became totally discredited for good when it made Lufthansa a five-star airline based on a business-class product that did not exist yet and would be available only on *some* planes several years after the rating. I still stand by what I said - Aerolíneas has good on-board service, but it's very risky to fly them, because you never know whether you're really going to fly after the latest political or economical crisis in Argentina, and then you'll be on your own (just days after my original comment above, Aerolíneas and its subsidiary Austral were grounded for two days by a strike and, contrary to British Airways when it recently had the same problem, the airline gave NO assistance to stranded passengers). Aerolíneas is used to being a near-monopoly in Argentina and hasn't realized yet that times have changed and now it has some serious competition, both domestically and internationally. They're also used to the idea that if anything goes wrong, the government will rescue them. But it's not necessarily so any more either.

    "Best Major Airline in South America" - Hahahahaha righhhhttt, this is one of the reasons why Tripadvisor is absolutely useless. I would rather walk than fly with these people. Up until 6 or 7 years ago Avianca was hands down the best airline in the Americas, by a long shot, but they ruined everything and now they are the worst along with the Argentine one. Azul and Gol have an ok service. Latam is horrible, only marginally better than Avianca and Argentina. That´s it, that is all there is. Great video. Cheers.
