I’m definitely a military freak too, I live in Paris, recently found some lovely second hand Alpha bits, always makes me happy, and I dream of going to these shops you show us !
My only issue with this is Andy and Bax is the ONLY military surplus store left in the Portland area. There used to be two others, one by Mt. Scott on 82nd Avenue and another in Damascus that used to have an old Huey helicopter that had been shot down at some point in time. (There were bullet holes near the tail rotor.) My fear, considering they are a cherished childhood memory of mine, is them someday going out of business due to the gentrification of this city. So many of my favorite childhood place have disappeared as Portland has become such a popular destination for people to move to. If you come to Portland, PLEASE support Andy & Bax.
@@theletterm207: They’re still there? The last time I was by there, and that was YEARS ago, I was under the impression they had closed shop. If they are open that’s definitely good news because I preferred them over A&B.
Man, i love Portland. My pops took me here a few times as a kid. This place was almost magical when i was young. I still have a backpack and duffle bag from there that's taken me to Guatemala and back & all over.
I’m from Portland, worked at Woodcrafters down the block from this place for a couple years. Serving in the USAF now, sure the city will be even more packed once I’m back. Cool to see PDX get some recognition though
The fit is not "over-sized" it's an arctic parka, you need those air pockets to trap in the heat. I spent three years in Ft. Wainwright, you don't fuck around with the cold.
All the companies contracted by the government had to make to the military specifications demanded by the government, so all mil spec' garments should be equally good depending on availability of fabrics etc..
personally i dont bother with alpha industries, they deviate from the original design, the pockets of there m65 jacket are smaller than the ones they made for the military, just at a glance you can tell this.
Haha, when you said Portland's fav Army/Navy, my first thought of my favorite store Andy & Bax. Growing up in Oregon city, got a Army helmet liner so I could pass my mother's helmet law before helmet laws!
Jose Paniagua Portland is only cool to people from Portland lol it's like SF. If you're not from there, everyone else is laughing at y'all. Even the rest of ur own state
Great video but hate to be the one to break the news but Andy and Bax is going out of business. Born and raised in Portland and have been in this store probably a few dozen times and am very sad it’s closing…looks like the owners are retiring. Store has been around for 78 years!!
Give me a nice N-1 flight deck jacket from Spiewak (Golden Fleece) and I'll never be cold again. They're made in the U.S.A., too! They're O.D. with heavy duty zip w/button over flap. They're fleece lined in the body and have an inner sleeve that grips your wrist to keep wind out when you're on your cycle. Made from HEAVY duk canvass that's treated to be water proof. I've ridden many a cold mile wearing one of these and they're PERFECT! They'll last you 20 plus years. They aren't cheap nor should they be. If you want to see them in action look at any movie about aircraft carriers and you'll see the sailors on the deck wearing them. These are just great jackets. Don't buy an imitation, either. About $150.
Hi there, I have a US Army 50's Koreans War Officer's Trench Coat and two US Army Coat Parkha with inner lining - all in good condition. These are up for sale...
What a beautiful video i loved it i been looking for green field jacket please help me where the best place to buy it Thank you very much please advise me in dataile
Cool I live in portland, Also a store I recommend Aloha surplus It's In beaverton Tualatin valley. It's a really great has a lot of cool vintage stuff. Andy and bax is cool but risky. Because it's in downtown portland and at the time im posting this there is really bad riots/protests in downtown portland so aloha surplus is kinda the way to go at this time but when riots and protesting is over andy and bax is a great store
I enjoy Andy and Bax. Unfortunately it's been years since I've seen a real army surplus. Sgt Gators was a good one. Anyone else notice ammo cans being sold at costco and Walmart? I don't know if Andy and Bax even sells those anymore.
I have my cousins cold weather coat and full snow suit...too bad he was the size of a 12 year old in the early 70s when he was in the air force in alaska
I am really envious for all Americans that you have these army surplus stores, because here in Switzerland, there aren't really some. I have heard from one, that allegedly exists, but the big problem is that on the one hand the state doesn't really invest much in the military, so there is no surplus, and on the other hand, it's illegal to wear uniforms or even jackets that have been worn by the police or military, as would be considered impersonation of law enforcement and military. You can get up to one year in prison for that.
I am not into Military or war. But i bought one because its good looking good Quality and holds me warm. I am female and like wearing men-jackets (most of the Times better quality). Mine Costs 200 Euro in germany.
that andy and bax is high priced. the 100 dollar military snow shoes they have there. i got at boring surplus store 30 miles away for 20 dollars. and the ones at andy and bax had the incorrect bindings. i got the right bindings and snowshoes at boring store for 20. not 100. i used them on a national tv show doing winter survival.
No thanks. I just hang around a few Goodwills where I live. I've found two M65 Alphas for $15 each. A 5.11 parka for $3 and I find brand new, tags on 5.11 pants for $5 every week. I think there is a uniform store here in my home town that occasionslly just dumps stock at the Goodwill. Hence the 5.11 items.
I mean it’s a great place for everything I’ve seen desert storm gear Cold War and so much more my favorite parts have to be the gas masks (but that’s just me) I got my favorite mask the SM-40 it was a good purchase and that put Andy and bax as my favorite surplus store in Oregon
Go to a local Army Surplus store. In my experience they love talking about all kinds of Military gear and will be happy to educate people. They usually have someone working who has served before and has actually made use of the items in the store so they can recommend certain items that they appreciated having while on duty.
Nice... I haven’t been to a surplus in a while. Really love the custom embroidery. Got a AI (women’s) black leather bomber coat w/ coyote fur on age hood about 12 years ago - paid like $350, they weren’t “mainstream” hence the amazing price!
Andy & Bax closed last month. R.I.P. to one of the best shops in PDX
Andy & Bax was always a wonderland to me when my dad took me there growing up. Also a fun place to take a date or a good friend and wander around
I’m definitely a military freak too, I live in Paris, recently found some lovely second hand Alpha bits, always makes me happy, and I dream of going to these shops you show us !
“Yeah grab one for me, please.”

Are you talking about alleycat surplus? Cause if you are, they are still in businesses, and I love them
@@theletterm207: They’re still there? The last time I was by there, and that was YEARS ago, I was under the impression they had closed shop. If they are open that’s definitely good news because I preferred them over A&B.
There's also a surplus store in Aloha
The one right outside of Boring is still there.
Is that the one with the shot up Huey helicopter in the parking lot?
Man, i love Portland. My pops took me here a few times as a kid. This place was almost magical when i was young. I still have a backpack and duffle bag from there that's taken me to Guatemala and back & all over.
I thought the title said Poland. I was all excited to see a Polish army navy store. Darn

I’m from Portland, worked at Woodcrafters down the block from this place for a couple years. Serving in the USAF now, sure the city will be even more packed once I’m back. Cool to see PDX get some recognition though
I have been shopping at Andy & Bax for years. Love the store so much; I would buy it as well!

Alpha industries is the supreme of the military world.
lol someones never seen the arc'teryx military stuff
Bullshit, Supreme is pathetic
All the companies contracted by the government had to make to the military specifications demanded by the government, so all mil spec' garments should be equally good depending on availability of fabrics etc..
Nah, crye precision, Jesus bless you
personally i dont bother with alpha industries, they deviate from the original design, the pockets of there m65 jacket are smaller than the ones they made for the military, just at a glance you can tell this.
One of my favorite videos. To be honest, this video inspired me to collect fishtails here in Mexico City. We need more surplus store videos!!!
Great military shop, true paradise👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The way his friend said yes I’ll take it looked so fake 😭😭😭😭😭

They cut out some shit
If he knows his size, yup.
Stage fright maybe

Wow 1974 vintage if that's vintage I must be prehistoric at my age 😂😂
Haha, when you said Portland's fav Army/Navy, my first thought of my favorite store Andy & Bax. Growing up in Oregon city, got a Army helmet liner so I could pass my mother's helmet law before helmet laws!

Nobody wants alpha industry stuff
You have the give the military a lot of credit for creating many pieces that became staples in the fashion world.
I've got an Alpha CWU-45 in my closet right now. I wear it for spring and fall.
How beautiful are the alpha jackets, I dream of a ma1 / cw45p, m / 65 ... they are very beautiful
Thanks for the video I’m customizing one of my alphas and that jacket helps a lot where patches need to be
My god I’m so glad I bought one from alpha yesterday, I didn’t even knew the brand and now such a surprise
At 4:34 they used a remixed sample from minecraft
I thought I was the only person to notice
Clapped by ya Nan I knew I wasn’t the only one 😂
Same lol 😆
Love my alpha snorkel parka. I'm getting the long one in green next.
Love this store. Been in many times.
I wore a lot of camo in high school.
Hi
@@rayankharl4319 what's up
I have a M51 and M65 Parka M51 being my favored nearly 60 years old still looks good and it's still worn by me, worth some money too
Robert Hargrave I have a M65 Parka, added a M51 hood. This way I get the real fur and not that horrible synthetic stuff.
I miss the old days when they had lots of military radios and related stuff ... oh well, I live in the past I guess. :)
I threw one of those parkas away with multiple liners. It sucked in the snow because it was absorbent.
May 28.. my bday, what a great jacket 🔥
Soon we will see super cool military issued Space Force jackets in these stores.

Andy and Bax is closed, permanently. The only surplus stores left are in Damascus and Aloha. Suburbs of Portland.
Damascus moved to Boring
I enjoy Andy and Bax. Unfortunately it's been years since I've seen a real army surplus. Sgt Gators was a good one. Anyone else notice ammo cans being sold at costco and Walmart? I don't know if Andy and Bax even sells those anymore.
This is my hometown toy store. You can spend hours in here looking around
Had a store like that an hour from my house. Was in business for 30 years. Went out of business. None nearby now.
I have two original navy pea coats both actually been underway on board ship with me.

Bits of the music sounded like the minecraft theme and I just couldn’t get it out of my head 😂
I have my cousins cold weather coat and full snow suit...too bad he was the size of a 12 year old in the early 70s when he was in the air force in alaska

I found a new AI N3B slim fit parka for $39 at Ross!
Steven Espaniola really for sure?
They sell Alpha at Ross. They never have bill tho, it’s always like 1-2 pieces and their never my size. Always like a size sm of XXXXXL. Lol

Its so weird seeing Andy and Bax like a high fashion store.
Do they have any shearling jackets in there?
Wait, so where you guys live, snowing six feet isn't day to day wear?
From what Track/ Interpreter is that sample at the Start of the Video?
These shops are like a Museum
I gotta get home ASAP

I bought 13 of those jackets. I had giant rainbow patches sewn on the backs. I gave them away at the gay pride parades. They loved them.
Awesome vid!! Love the history!
Awesome store 👍🏻
GREAT STORE'
Bought some wool Swiss army pants there and a ww2 German backpack there
I wore my dad’s M65 and woodland fit to school for halloween
