Why doesn’t mainstream channels get a chance to review the B5 powertrain that majority of consumers will be purchasing.
Yeah, we wish Volvo would give us the other powertrain sometimes.
I rather have the b6
I had a T5 now a B6. The T5 was totally solid. Unremarkable, but adequate. Outside of the PHEV I find all of the USA Volvo engine offerings adequate but not thrilling. My B6 is faster and more responsive but it’s far from night and day over my T5.
Here in sweden they prefere D4 engine mostly.
@@JakeDrives1 i have opted for the polestar optimization. The responsiveness improved a bit
Really impressive. REALLY impressive performance off roading. The extra ground clearance when it raises the SUV is great, but trully the coordination of power and their AWD system is quite impressive.
Beautiful car.
Good sound is always appreciated.
I have a ‘22 XC60 T8 ER… having owned four Volvos over four decades, I can say that this is their best drivetrain ever… Volvo should dump their mild hybrids and put this drivetrain in every vehicle including their Cross Country wagons, and keep only PHEVs and BEVs for the next decade
Nice review Ryan. Much better looking car than the last Volvo you tested. :)
Great review, thank you.
This's my 3rd time watching your reviews on Volvo cars. Well done, excellent review. What a beautiful car/SUV, and it's aging very very well too. Much love from SA ❤🇿🇦
Nicely done!
Excellent review! Thank you 👍👌
Love these! Volvo´s are just such amazing cars.
I have a 2023 S60 sedan with this PHEV drivetrain. Now over 14,000 miles, 139 gallons, 101 miles per gallon. Charging cost is ~$35/month @ 16.6¢ per kWh. According to the EPA website, sedans are about 15% more efficient than SUVs with the same drivetrain, so this XC60 would get me ~85 miles per gallon. My MPG can be compared to my last BMW ICE which got 29.7 mpg, driven the same way.
BTW, I paid $56K. The SUV premium is quite substantial. And the S60 is even more elegant.
Nice job Volvo, this seems like a well crafted car. Youve kept who you are. True wagoneers.
Unfortunately, Volvo is discontinuing wagons left and right... This is a midsize SUV
Great reviews
Damn- those 22” wheels!!!! They now say that cars without physical knobs are considered to be more dangerous.
22" is completely unnecessary. 20" max would do on this car.
@@GOD999MODE19-inch wheels are better yet
Manufacturers: Please include spare tire and stop putting gigantic wheels on cars. They look ridiculous and don't ride well, and replacement tires are insanely expensive. 17" max.
Bigger the better with wheels. If I want tiny wheels, I will buy a compact car.
@@samanthapuskar6245 your wheels look dumb
Love these Volvos, love mine!
The new infotainment system is great on Volvo. I used to it after 10 minutes of driving. For example, when I took Mercedes GLC for the weekend - its infotainment system was pissing me off for 2 days.
The GLE 450e has much better cockpit controls - physical controls for climate and drive mode, a trackpad so you don’t have to touch the infotainment screen, and much more useful & important information displayable in both the instrument panel and the touchscreen. I’d give Volvo a “D” grade for its cockpit design and Mercedes’ GLE a “B+” (and Porsche’s Cayenne E-Hybrid an “A-“)
The infotainment of all Volvo's with exception of EV,is horrible!
It just look solid I want it now
Love Volvo vehicles
I couldn't live with the 22" wheels!
Agreed. With 22" wheels and extremely low profile tires, you'll feel the bumps when you ride over shadows on the road! 😅😅😅
I have the 22”s on my current XC60, had the 21”s on my last XC60. They both compromise the ride. Air suspension splits the difference. The Volvo OEM Pirelli tires do the ride no favors. I can’t wait to get some better tires on mine.
Hi, thanks for the channel, would you be able to do the Corolla Cross Hybrid in this same test condition as the Volvo on this new land you have ?
Finally some gas engine in Volvo. Only You could take it on yours course with those massive and delicate 22" wheels. Great review. Greetings
Wish they'd do another V70 XC. This thing looks amazing though
Thank you.Beautiful review. Can you please make the same test with Rav4 prime 2024? It would be a good comparison .
there are three trim levels of the XC60 Recharge. You showed the most expensive one. You can get this same basic car and engine for $65k. That's worth mentioning because not everyone needs a crystal shifter and 22 inch rims, etc for $76k.
I actually do mention that in the driving portion
true. i just hate for anyone to think you have to spend $76k to get this awesome 455 HP engine. I love it every day and spent less than $70k.
Great Tech!
First, thank you Ryan.
Great review. Looks like in 5 years or less new cars will be riding on rims only. Those 22" rims are the stupidest thing ever. The more I watch modern car reviews the more I appreciate my old school 2011 Nissan Xterra Pro 4x.
Yep, Volvo should offer 18-inch wheels instead of 22-inch wheeo
Thanks for a great video. This is a real Volvo, unlike the Chinese toy cars they started making.
how did you get cloth seats in a U.S. spec model?
My 2021 xc60 R design gave me on one trip 6.6 L per 100km . I did 100km/h though cruise . That is almost 36mpg
Nice.
Volvo has a great platform to make a real off/on road monster. Fix the wheels and tires and it can be a real tail wagon. I wonder if Subaru will do something similar to their Outback. 500hp/600 torque Outback would be amazing!
At 17:27 you show the car rising up an inch or two when put into "Off Road" mode. We have a new 2024 Volvo XC60 Recharge T8 AWD (Plus edition) and it does NOT do this. In fact, I don't see any trim version, option or even mention of air suspension anywhere. Are all of the trim levels supposed to do this or do you have some special option?
We custom ordered our 2022 XC60 B5 and we love it! Fuel economy at 33ish MPG on long road trips is amazing. Best thing about the car besides the wool seats is the Bowers & Wilkins sound system - at must option in our family and anyone that loves music!! (I agree in the video, misguided advice to not get the Bowers) The Harman/Kardon in the XC60 is garbage, not even close to the Harman system I had in my SAAB 9-5 from 2002!! I was just telling my husband the other night I would tell people to get this car JUST for the Bowers & Wilkins! Great video!
I had a 2021 with Harman now a 2023 with B&W. There is no comparison. It is such a pleasure to live with and a total joy on long highway trips. I can’t recommend that option enough!
I have the basic Harman in my Volvo and it’s fine … no complaints … base sound systems in all luxury cars today are good … not worth wasting money to “upgrade”… cars aren’t the proper place for HiFi music listening
I'm sorry but I wouldn't buy a car with a worse sound system than a SAAB from 2002. It's unbearable for us when we get a loaner with the base or harman audio. Ruins the whole experience.
@@hottie1245 I had a Chevy Cruze in 2014 that had a pioneer system. It blew the HK in my 2021 XC60 out of the water. I was continually unimpressed with the HK. If you don’t have high standards for car audio it’s fine. Otherwise it falls flat.. Literally.
Harmon Kardon these days is Samsung. But to be honest, Bowers and Wilkins was bought out as well by Masimo.
I get these all the time at a dealership, new and used! I am a big fan of the performance and all that, glad to see it performs in a trail too... a lot of these sit at dealerships, west coast at least, and might have some bargaining power for the consumer! Used ones 2019+ are quite similar inside with some different powertrains as well.
Just a note for us, EU-based, Volvo PHEV owners: Options "Always start in pure mode" and Creep mode control are not available. Former due to EU regulations. Not sure about the other one.
So you don't get confused when you don't find these OPTIONS. It's annoying, honestly.
Physical buttons are not for the Aircon, that's all through the screen
Why doesn’t anyone mention what the Google assistant can control in the car?? Voice commands using GA is awesome.
Very good system, awesome power, mind blowing price though. That crawl ratio is very good, with decent wheels & tyres this can be a good adventure vehicle, if you are rich, basically :))
still a handsome looking face on every volvo. but geez. so expensive. though i'd still love one of those tanks.. er.. 240's from the '70s
And... i got to sit on those wool seats at a car show. i think the best seats in the industry
I absolutely love Volvo's, but they've gotten so complicated I can't imagine that the reliability is going to be any good. Also the price, these have definitely moved up into the premium car category.
Volvos have been premium-priced cars for four decades in the USA
Agree the modes should be physical buttons. Same issue in my 2015 Lexus RX450h hybrid
I think the "Volvo" without a back window is actually a Polestar.
Since the AWD system is pretty decent , are we going to see it trying to climb the mount course ?
Mountain course would shred those 22-inch wheels.
@@drivingsports Is it possible to change those wheels and have a try on the mountain course? Of course it's company policy not to change anything in the car but still is there any chance?
You shuold compare this with thw MB GLC
Volvo's are great, we had an XC70 for years. Shockingly good off-road with the right tires, but it's the Rodney Dangerfield of cars - everyone will cut you off, you'll never get let in and you wind up having to drive like a dick just to avoid it. Also, ours had terrible gas mileage and the brakes were marginal, which is why we sold it. Fun fact, Volvo make skidplates for a lot of their cars for "police" use, but you can just order them from the dealer....
Like @savagegeese said about all new cars, and his Volvo in particular, these are cars to lease and get rid of as soon as the warranty is over, unlike old Volvos which were 20 year cars.
Sounds like you got the Ford-era or Geely-era XC70. We got the pre-Ford V70XC wagon and still have it 23 years later w 245k miles original 5-cylinder engine & transmission… it’s a tank!
@@cbatiau2528My 1998 V70 bought new, still rates a place in the garage.
It is a great suv. Fast and very well balanced.
If you think the Volvo XC60 T8 Recharge is quick, wait until you try the twin motor EX30. It's a supercar surprizing sleeper.
Reliability?
Im gonna be pissed if youre actually 51/49 for legs to torso proportion.
@13:46 “It’s kind of funny that one of Volvo’s new prototype vehicles doesn’t have a back windshield”.
But Volvo doesn’t.
Because that’s the Polestar 4.
Polestar is a Volvo brand that Volvo just pulled funding from. Expect their dissolution before too long.
$76k for an XC60. Albeit knowing the market is insanely inflated, that just personally reiterates that the dollar doesn’t stretch as far as it once did. - Gorgeous vehicle though; just don’t like Volvo’s UI from my experience renting a Polestar 2 once.
Just starting to watch this video but given those ridiculous low-profile tires I predict a blown-out tire.
Great vehicle ….
Good luck with the software tho!
Everything is great about this except for the rubber band tires. Give me 17" with oversized high profile tires please!
For my liking, Volvo misses the Onyx trim from Subaru.
Replace that piano black with something mat, offer more capable AWD etc.
For me, luxury is comfortable ride and seats, quietness and good AWD. Over clicking for most simple features is not luxury. It’s cost savings.
Can we get a bmw x5 or x3 offroad test please
They keep sending vehicles to our region with summer tires. It's a deal-killer for off-road testing of any sort.
3:55 Hello, how tall are you in cm?
Great photography of a great crossover...but the price, ouch!
In our neighborhood, Volvo is rare while Tesla reigns supreme.
So, you have a lot of lefty sheeple in your neighborhood......
So if you run out of electricity, its only front wheel drive?
No, it’s always got some electric in reserve … you won’t run out for brief needs like offroad or snow
In my opinion, your opinion is misguided 😁 I am considering the XC60 BECAUSE it is the cheapest way to get the best OEM audio on the market--Volvo's Bowers & Wilkins audio.
should I be similarly as worried about maintenance/reliability if i purchased this with B5 or with a BMW X3
For some perspective on how ridiculous 22 inch wheels are. Semi-trucks roll on 22.5 inch wheels.
That IS expensive! GX 550 territory!
$76k is quite a lot. I think $65k max would've been it.
Sorry, but I love big sound in my car!
Rav4 plug-in is enough.
Your reviews are always excellent, but the car is a disappointment.
Take away the wheels and tires, give it a spare tire (hang it on the back like a Jeep if you have to). Get rid of the glass roof (yuck).
That price is also more than a little high.
@driving sports tv really waiting for an in depth test with a 2024 Sante Fe XRT
Please do a review on 2024 Corolla 😃
Very nice but not $76K nice….
$76k with no rear seat a/c control!? Yikes!
No rear climate on the PHEV. I believe the center tunnel is larger for the battery/electrical components. A miss for Volvo because their rear climate is wonderful. I've had it on both my XC60s and went with a B6 in 2023 partly because of this.
@@JakeDrives1 ahhh makes sense. My sister has the xc60 and the controls are nice. That’s why I was confused.
I like the Volvo videos! I’ve always wanted one (really like the smaller electric 40 you’ve reviewed) but heard reliability isn’t the best.
$76k and cloth seats don't go together well.
Volvo is a good n durable car but when it comes to overland,it s a disgrace
70+ is way too much
And for that you get the same design as. last 5 years ! Same old dull design.... back to the drawing board
When chevys and fords cost sixty with all the options, theyve got to set themselves at a higher level. This is not for everyone.
Only a fool pays cash/MSRP for one of these cars. Especially the PHEV. Lease it and discard it for the latest and greatest.
Not it’s not, it’s a Volvo, real rich people buy these.
Way cheaper than Mercedes BMWs and Audis and with more extras…
Can't you finally just buy some commercial insurance? We gotta listen to you talk about "breaking stuff and scratches" in every video 🤦🏻♂️
No leather seats for this amount of money?
its configurable, u can choose between leather or this wool seat (not cheap cloth) , not everyone likes leather, we are not in the 80s
no thats $1000 buckaroos
Perforated/cooled leather is available.
@@hisnameisworthy7886 In the UK they are all the same pice - Leather, 'mixed' leather and cloth or wool...
$76,000 and no cooled seats! 😩😂😅
They are available. Not when the Wool is selected.
Low profile tires.... time to stop pretending SUVs are for off road.
If you want to buy this car in TURKEY , You have to pay twice as much. !! minumum ! very stupıd tax system -
omg that tablet display looks so chip and inconvinient, same crap as in subaru cars 🤦👎
Not worth the money honestly..
And for that you get the same design as. last 5 years ! Same old dull design.... back to the drawing board
@hisnameisworthy7886 with that money, I'd rather get me a Mercedes or a proper SUV with proper off-road capabilities, or even a truck. I don't know who's in their right mind would pay this much for a Chinese version of Volvo..
It is. If you are a mustang guy then no. But safety, premium feel and something that doesn’t look like all other crossovers this is with it
@@hisnameisworthy7886elegant timeless design. You have no taste.
@@billurban1581 Once upon a time..
.
you can buy 3 tesla for $77k 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I wont buy any Chinese Cars. Ever……☝️
Ok relax lol they just bought it but volvo is still doing its own thing
Almost all Volvo interiors are white, cream or tan. 🤮🤢
Mine is black
it's that swedish vibe. both of mine have been black.
Same old same old crappy touchy screen... click here and there
Same. dull design...... hence why am getting rid of mine....... Polestar improvement
Do the designers actually design anything? Just get paid to replicate and make tiny tweaks...
All in All same boring concept..
SAVE YOUR MONEY
Refresh is allegedly coming. I’m hoping they make some big moves. I’m on my second one and I like the fundamentals but I’m ready for something new and different.
Yep, I’m trading my ‘22 XC60 T8 in for a new cayenne e-hybrid because of better cockpit design (physical switches, better screens) and electric AWD
@@cbatiau2528 I’d love a Cayenne. VAG products are just so much better calibrated than the best from Volvo. I drove them for years before I started leasing Volvos. They are so expensive comparatively. Worth it!
A very dated car with old tech.
I dlatego jest najlepszy 🤣😉👍
