    I had both of these and after trying to reconcile all the hype, after lots of playing and trying to work with them, the truth of the matter is that these delays are INCREDIBLY DARK. They don't cut through in a band or in a mix and they don't retain great attack. They do sound cool for certain styles in isolation, but the reality is the repeats are just so dark that it gets really muddy really quick. As much as I wanted to buy into the Moog bandwagon, I ended up selling both.

      You can change the filter cutoff via midi on the mf104m. The default setting is great for certain types of sounds but is very dark compared to your typical delay sound. It's like an instrument in its own right though and would probably be the one of last pieces of gear I would ever let go of.

    Thanks for the video. The ONLY one I found that clarified that the drive circuit can indeed be operated on its own without the delay signal. Cheers.

    @4:09 "the moog chorus modulates your whole signal not just the delay line". actually the chorus' modulation works the same as the 104m's. the chorus and flanger by moog are both delay pedals, with a shorter delay time then the 104m. most chorus pedals only modulate the time of a delayed line while being blended with a dry uneffected signal. if one wanted to add modulation to the mf delay you could set the expression pedal to control the time. any lfo can be applied into the expression pedal. hook up a lightfoot lab goatkeeper or ehx 8 step to the expression input. the modulation applys to the delay line would give you modulation just like the 104m (or anyother delay with modulation).

      +9520575 we haven't tried that yet, but that's even better news for those wanting the sounds of the MF-104. Thank you for sharing!

      Thanks for the info. I was thinking about investing in the Moog 104 Delay but the prices are outrageous. I'll be buying a MF Delay pretty soon now!

      Wouldn’t the MF chorus and MF delay into something like a GigRig wetter box work for this, or no?

  • @philipbrister
    @philipbrister 3 года назад +5

    I will say the MF Chorus/MF Delay stack is quite nice. But it will cost about $750-$800 to pull off in 2021.

    These only work in a quiet mix. Way too dark. Don’t think I’ll be getting the behringer clone since I can probably create something similar sounding using helix stuff or my Source Audio Collider.

    If you have a control processor and get a minifooger delay, you can get even closer... or even beyond.

      +musicman123 Haven't tried a "tap tempo" pedal, but you can affect either the Time or Feedback with a heel-toe style expression pedal.
