Oh you're right! That's actually really similar to how Great Battle in the Vast Sky (Rhapthorne boss theme) is a darker more intense version of Heavenly Flight
When I first beat this game, I was about ten years old and I was still in my "healers are lame" phase of gaming so I beat it with four warriors. We each had an Yggdrasil leaf and the rest of our inventories were comprised of just special medicines. Anyways after much trial and error, we finally won and I genuinely had heart palpitations because I was so damn shocked. Word of advice: if/when this game gets remade for Switch (or if you just wanna play it on DS), bring a healer.
When a very good friend of mine Beat Corvus for the first time, the final blow was with his Priest, who had run out of MP for healing and just stabbed him with a spear. We had a good laugh about that
I remember beating Rapthorne (final boss of DQ8) with "Golden Oldies" (The last skill Yangus learns when you put skill points on his "Humanity" skill tree) That was hilarious AF.
Few things are as satisfying as defeating a boss in an unexpected wae, like with their own reflected attack, or the second slash of propellor blade... One of my favourite games
Falcon blade+Falcon slash was easy, but exploring the other weapons on another playthrough allowed me to appreciate more of the game. Then a main character only run. This game was nothing short of amazing.
In other words, most of Dragon Quest's later bosses. Grab the skill scroll you get from the 100 shield skill quest and you're laughing. But that Magic Burst, amirite lads
I've recently found that while Bounce doesn't do a thing to counter that, at least two loads of Magic Barrier brings the damage down to something survivable. Just, anyway. I was taking 170 damage per person with two Magic Barriers up, enough for my Paladin to protect my Priest and Mage before going down.
@@aaronoconnor4803 I know it's a super lategame class but it is absolutely worth getting the Sage class and level grinding somebody in it - they don't get things like Omniheal, but they do get Kazing which is guaranteed to work. And some good damage spells, too. I ended up not having a Cleric for the endgame because the Sage was covering everything.
The best DQ final boss theme imo. It manages to sound like a long and tough battle like most DQ final boss themes, while being bombastic and epic like III/XI's "Hero's Challenge" and VIII's "Great Battle in the Vast Sky." The usage of the Overture is peak too.

Right, Ergios was just another Celestrial who became Lucifer’s and King Piccolo’s lovechild. God is Sean Connery in Ox King’s body, and I think the only way to fight him is to go back in time ten years and get the damn DLC from NWC, lol. Or Action Replay, either/or. X3

For anyone that didnt know you can rechallenge Corvus after completing quest 39 and flying to The Realm of The Almighty, talk to Celestria and she will transport you to the final dungeon where you can rechallenge Corvus and the credits play again.

I was like "I KNOW I missed a lot of stuff when I first fought Corvus (10 year old me was *_VERY_* angry about Greygnarl's sacrifice, so I was heading up that dungeon with VENGEANCE on my mind), so I'll go back & check all the dead ends." I kept going to the actual boss arena because I was just curious if anything was on the other side that I hadn't gone too, since I wanted Corvus dead asap, & was surprised to see his cacoon back in its spot. Naturally, my first instruct was to go back up to it & see what happens when you interact with it again.
Every time any of my party members fell, it felt like the fight was over. But somehow, even when I took heavy hits and had even just a single person standing there, using all their items, abilities and skills to keep us up, and every now and then managing to make some major hits... We could still do it. It was a war of attrition. Corvus was strong enough to slap any one of us down in a moment. But we, too, were prepared to always rise back up and counter. As long as we had MP. What a boss fight this was! And it's been about 10 years since I fought him. Really hoping to see a remake or remaster some day! Maybe even... soon?
I ran in with Oomph, Full tension on my warrior, and Multi-thrust with the spear skill, it deals like 300-500 dmg per hit at level 53 and can hit 3-4 times (usually 3). This way I could deal about 1000 dmg almost every three or four turns while my Mage and Thief used magic and abilities to deal some extra damage and provide herbs.
@Fresh Burrito i guess sometimes it's nice to have a collection - I play the remakes though so not always the original. Emulation is definitely convenient though.
@@LunaLuminary ahhh that's the problem, but I recently bought a used copy that luckily had the dlc! As long as you connect locally to play with someone who has the dlc, you'll automatically have the dlc yourself :) and I seriously recommend dq 7!
Level 40 Warrior Level 40 Priest Level 38 Paladin Level 41 Martial Artist Almost every enemy before Corvus was destroyed by an egg-on boosted Gigaslash, and any who survived were quickly finished by Multifist from the Martial Artist. Then Corvus happened. I've never known true pain until I tried to use that strategy on Corvus. I can't even remember the amount of times I died on that fight
OPest comp overall - Paladin - Paladin - Paladin - Priest If you cant die you cant loose basically And this comp still has insane mono target damage with Falcon Slash + Uber Falcon Blade at +2 Atq & with a Fource suiting foe's weakness You can swap 2 palas for gladiators if you want to go a little faster, but triple is still best, defensive buff stacks + heals & knight watch makes everything a piece of cake
One time, a teammate of mine killed his final form with Hallowed Arrow. Helen said that it was "mean", because that teammate was finishing him off, and stealing MP at the same time!

It's a shame Corvus was kind of a pushover. Felt a little anticlimactic, but still a good boss and a great boss theme.
