- The Eleven brings a classic pub debate to life. Two rival football fans go head-to-head, to debate which players would make it into a combined team from their clubs. The Judge - a neutral fan - has the final say on each position on the pitch.
In the latest episode, Manchester United fan Adam McKola goes up against Liverpool fan Grizz Khan to debate an all-time Premier League era combined team, with Thogden overseeing proceedings.

Firstly: Trent ,as was said, completeley revolutionised the right back role. that players are expected to fit into nowadays. The numbers he puts up in termsn of assists Xa and chances created are ridicoulos for a midfielder let alone a defender. I know you'll bring up defending, but contrary to popular belief trent excels in this area producing the second-third best defensive statistics per 90 in the prem last season for right backs, the only thing he lacks is defensive awareness.
Secondly: Vidic was an amazing player but he is glorifies over his highlights reels where he made unnecessary slide tackles that he didn't need to make or could have been prevented earlier. As well as this Vidic always had frerdinand or another world class defender next to him, Van Dijk when he came in had an average matip, joe gomez and lovren as his partenr and still managed to lead liverpool to a league title and a champions league by transforming that defense. Van dijk also managed to finish 2nd in the ballondor behind the greatest of all time in one of his best ever seasons, from centre back. Thats insane and vidic never managed anything close.
Thirdly: Salah has played 5 going on 6 impeccable seasons, ronaldo had 3 good seasons at united, salah also holds the goalscoring record in the premier league, beating rolando, and also beating him for assists in almost all of his years as well. Salah while not as good at useless stepovers or dribbling is positionally the better attacker and wouldv'e also won a ballondor had he won the 2018 champions league final instead of Madrid. To add to this giggs while it wasn't his role, scored more than 10 goals in a season only twice over 21 seasons, and scored less than 5 in over 10 off those seasons, salah has also put up more numbers in assists and creatively in general, and while giggs was less of a direct attacking threat and more of a midfielder in a 4-4-2 he lacked any dazzling technical ability and did not have the ability to dictate the tempo or the run of play.
Putting away bias the team presented is very good and perfect in my opinion.
Grizz is good on this, as is Maych. Two fair and objective red men.

Have all of them had memory loss or something? Ronaldo played almost his entire United career on the right wing, he started playing on the left when he came to Madrid. His best season at United 07/08 he started 35 games as a right winger and only 1 game as a left winger and that was the CL final.

This sort of debate just isn’t really fair, that United team had so many players who stayed there for years and years and won so many league titles etc, whereas Liverpool has only won 1. To make it more fair, and to make it more entertaining, it should’ve been a certain season for each team and only base it off how they performed in that season. Plus the fact that Liverpool’s most successful team of the Premier era is still happening, so the players haven’t even finished their careers yet, comparing them to players who played 10+ years for an insane United team just isn’t fair.
That’s why it’s an all time team

Great video and it was so equal and fair it’s unreal. However I will say Trent didn’t revolutionize the Fullback position. Guys like Cafu, Caravjal, Dani alves, Roberto Carlos, Fachetti all revolutionized this position and the wonder kids fullbacks we see in this day and age are all stuff these guys I mentioned already did in their perspective primes.

When you make an all time 11 you don’t look at trophies you look at how they are as a player
Correct to a certain point. You have to look at reasons why certain players didn't win trophies and a rationale as to why they would be selected over someone who has a history of trophies.
It has to be a combination of both trophies and how good they were/are on their day, but trophies should always have the edge. How they are/were as players can make way for more subjective opinions which is hard to quantify for a fair debate. For example someone like Gary Neville was never the most easy on the eye as a player but he was efficient and remained efficient for over a decade, if Trent stops performing now he doesn't get ahead of Gary Neville all time regardless of how good he's been so far. Just like Henderson has been a greater Midfielder in the PL as compared to someone like say Modrić in the PL who was overall more gifted and went on to have an overall greater career, not to say he wasn't good for Spurs but Henderson in the PL has been greater than Modrić in the PL.

Easily the best epi yet, two fans arguably part of one of the biggest rivalry in sports and there was no screaming or overreacting. Fair analysis on both parts (theres always bias).
FOR ONCE, people put bias aside and just appreciated both sets of players. Sometimes rivalry doesn't matter and just reminisce about some of the great players we've all seen. Reminds me of Ronaldo or Messi, who cares really? Just be grateful we all got to see them both play as they are probably #1 and #2 of all time depending on preference.

Just comparing Ronaldo and Salah there are two distinctions to make; their overall ability and level at their best and then there is their individual records in the league.
If you are looking at who has been the better player, obviously that is Ronaldo; to question it would be stupid.
Remembering Ronnie's first stint, if you had the ability to pick peak Balon d'or winning Ronaldo, which emerged in his penultimate season; you pick him over Salah.
However, if you are looking at their over all record in the league, salah has spent more of his best years here, so his record is better in the Prem. So based on record in the league, you'd pick Salah.
Two amazing players either way.
I like this, the least 3 years of his first stint were amazing, but Salah has more of less matched plus an extra year. There's a tendency of including his time at Madrid, where he was a different level altogether.

Over a career in terms of achievement and statistics and even ability I think anybody who watches football would say Suarez was a better player over his career BUT you can’t argue Rooneys significance in the Prem. Had Suarez done a decade in England he would probably have surpassed Henry as the best to do it in England.

we did well to get anyone in there but a lot of it has to do with tactics. if you're picking a team to play today you go with a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1 with attacking wing backs and inside forwards instead of traditional wingers and fullbacks so a lot of the core players in dominant united teams don't really fit. up front ronaldo on the left and salah on the right makes sense in the 4-3-3 but if you were going for an old style 4-4-2 with traditional wingers you'd go with barnes and beckham or giggs and beckham. For attacking full backs you can't go past Irwin and Trent because Neville as good as he was in a 4-4-2 wouldn't fit in the modern system, but Irwin would work perfectly and maybe be even better than he was. Keane as a 6 with gerrard and scholes as the 8's is hard to argue with. ferdinand and van dijk have the pace and comfort on the ball for a high line. i wouldn't change anything tbh

Massive respect to Rooney, but Suarez was that little bit special this man was breaking records and missing a handful of games too, it was a joke how good Suarez was, just look at the chances he missed, outrageous he shouldn’t even be trying to score. Suarez’ technical ability is slept on how he isn’t mentioned alongside Benzema and Lewi is disrespect. Suarez also has the 3rd most assists in all of football, for a forward that is nuts. Rooney was more of a direct forward, a proper striker and a brilliant one too. For me Suarez just edges it Rooney is a brilliant goal scorer and if I could play 2 up front it would be them 2.
