makes sense that magus should be the one to kill lavos. he had the most invested after what happened to zeal. it's a shame he was only a side character, he was the most interesting person in chrono trigger.
Magus WAS the main character in Radical Dreamers but because the story wasnt well written it was remade as Chrono Cross and they changed Magus into Guile and replaced his role with Serge. I agree tho, his role was pivotal in both games and he shouldve been the one to save Schala, but noooooo, they gave that role to a silent protag that was less interesting than Dalton.
He often doesn't speak - you can force some dialog out of him in some scenes if one character is the focus discussing something with the party and you put Crono as the third character (like where Marle's father is on trial and she has dialog with the party outside)...otherwise it seems to always have the other character speak like Magus has zero interest in what is going on...but since they have him appear here with the other party members chasing down Gaspar so you can get the Time Egg to save Crono, he must care at least a little.
Has anyone ever figured out why the bit on the player's left appears in silhouette??? Since Chrono Trigger has a "new game +" I always liked to pretend that the bit was a sort of time loop bit that would send everyone back in time to replay the entire events of the game, sometimes with their memories intact, sometimes without, but always with their current weapons, lol. When I was younger I'd pretend that the humanoid Lavos created two bits as a safety precaution if anything were to happen to him/her. The bit on the player's right would revive the humanoid and/or the bit on the player's left. The bit on the player's left was made by Lavos to not just heal everyone, but also had a mechanism to start a time loop. It sort of makes sense seeing as how they fight Lavos in a time warp. I think that if the bit on the right is killed (which ends the game obviously) before the bit on the left is killed then that left bit's time loop kicks in and throws Chrono and his party into a specific time that is replaying the entire new.game.+! I'm sure my hypothesis doesn't hold up, but it is just something I came up with when I was 12 back in the 90s to link new game + and the silhouette of the left bit.
I remember reading something about the bit (or bits) being the true core of Lavos. A final act of defiance perhaps, Lavos' last futile attempt to remain alive. I like your theory though!!
That is why Chrono Trigger made a name for itself as one of the best games of its time. The chance to see a lot of endings depending on your actions on the path you have chosen makes the story flexible. Its like reading one of those pocket books that after reading a certain part. The end of the page tells you to go to this page or go to that page and this what will happen. Gives you a lot of choices that will bring to different endings.
This isn't a hack, it's an optional ending. No matter who's in your party, if you defeat Lavos without resurrecting Crono this is the ending you will receive. Depending on the circumstances in which you defeat Lavos, you can receive up to 13 total endings. Just for fun, I recommend defeating Lavos immediately after watching Schala open the sealed door in the Zeal palace, but prior to powering up Marle's pendant. You unlock the only scene in which Crono ever speaks throughout the entire game! :D
I always almost cry when everyone goes back to there own time periods. Knowing that they will never see each other again just... Breaks my heart... ;'(
The Prophet's ending should've been Magus revealing to Schala that he is her brother and then they double team Lavos to kill him. Then they rule Zeal in an age of peace using the Sun Stone as it's power source like they originally did before they used Lavos energy. Imagine how advanced Crono's time of 1000 AD would be if Zeal was still floating in the sky.
The prize for the 3rd challenge is Cat Food. You can use it to feed Crono's cat. Keep feeding it and you'll eventually get more cats--up to 15 if I remember correctly. One of them (the 12th one?) even looks like Alfador... Anyway, the only way this affects the ending is that more cats appear.
@Youboga It would have made sense for them to let you play with him in his human form, instead of just showing him in the ending. I always thought that was stupid of them, even when I was a kid.
Agreed, I always thought that should be the tradeoff if you decide to kill Magus - Glen should have got his human form back immediately so could play him that way.
Ahhh I see what you did,you just didnt bring back chrono when you were suppose to and continued the game without him and it gave us this ending, pretty cool haha this is the only ending i have never seen first hand will have to give it a try for sure was and of my all time favs
And before anyone asks, yes, a gate does appear inside the Lavos shell which you can use to escape, but only if you go through the Black Omen to get there.
I've always wondered... Who in the royal family from the Dark Ages time period, kept Marle's family going? No one from that time period shows up during the best ending. I do always wondered who it could have been?
with magus's death scythe(last scythe) his attack power goes 5x normal with each member either dead or not with him, so he does best base damage in the game if everyone elese is gone/dead, kinda cheap but it works better than black flare
Well, after Crono dies, you can replace him with any other character you like. Even after you rescue him with the egg, he becomes "replaceable". He's got a powerful magic, Luminaire. Combined with Magus' Dark Matter, you can take loads of HP from your enemies. But I like Frog and Marle can revive your allies. That's why I usually finish the game with that party.
@potts0666 - u can only solo with crono in the real game when u finally get new game + u let marle get thrown away into the past (at the very beginning of the game) then enter the right pod ---- soloing with any other character can only done via game genie
Thanks! I would be interested on tips for better compression of the 2nd video--the psychedelic (constantly moving) background made it difficult for me to keep the video under 50 megs.
yes it is the same bell, and as for lost time it most likely has todo with time anomolies related to lavos...the more you mess with time the more unstable it becomes....bear in mind, revealed at one of the CC endings Kid in CC is schala zeal from CT....and the same child lucca finds at the end of CT
Magus should have had an ending where his memories are erased and he is seen working a carnival booth in 1000 AD. But he's happy and the kids all like him.
Crunchmystone-- 2 answers: 1--See the first two movies I posted, which show the actual fight. It took over 40 attacks by Magus to bring Lavos down; you're only seeing the final one here. 2--Look carefully at that last attack. When the HP damage totals on Lavos come up, look at the total on the Left Bit. It's in GREEN, meaning it was healed by the DarkMatter attack. Nevertheless, all three bits still died because the Right Bit, the target, died.
The attack DID heal the left bit, but it killed the right bit, the true target. Geez. I actually used 3-4 Elixirs and about 3 heals during this fight (see the previous video). Not sure about the Old Man/Elder reference--it's likely a retranslation occurred at some point (this is the SNES version, not PS).
Depends. If you're playing Chrono Trigger on the SNES, you'll need a device called the Pro Action Replay from Datel to enter the codes. If you're using an emulator, there's usually a menu (the Cheat menu in zSNES for example) where you can enter them. Put Magus in your first character slot, activate the PAR codes, then go fight Lavos. It's that easy.
@daridave Here's a repost of how to do this: After you put Magus in the first party position, use the PAR codes 2E2981EE and 2E2982EE to make the second and third characters disappear. (By the way, I'd also recommend trying 2E298106 and 2E298206...that's pretty funny to see.) Be careful, though--some parts of the game (mainly those where more than one character is expected, or where a certain character is "required" to be in the party) can freeze with this code.
As for the flickering seen in the 1st (and to a lesser degree 2nd) clips--this was caused by the version of zSNES I used, 1.50, which had a timing issue with Chrono Trigger. This issue is corrected in the latest, 1.51.
Correction, the prize for the 3rd challenge is another cat (white, now you have a yellow cat and white cat at home, fun). Beat any challenge again and the prize will be cat food (amount varies by challenges).
I've had that ending before! It happens when you don't get the egg with Gaspar and finish the game without rescuing Crono! I finished the game with Magus, Frog (my favourite) and Marle.
Yep. After I recorded this movie I learned that this is more or less one of the "normal" endings. I just had never let Crono stay dead before this point :)
To answer your questions-- Magus warped from the Lavos gate at Lucca's fair (New Game +). However this was done AFTER I'd sent a party through the Black Omen; said party had already defeated the Lavos Shell and then warped out from the gate inside Lavos. That's why the Lavos Shell is already dead here.
Thanks for posting the video and not enabling advertisements :) That's really interesting how it goes back to the boss battle after showing part of the ending. Is that a result of the game glitching out from the pro action replay? Also I'm curious, what happens after you beat the boss a second time? Edit: Just noticed the part 2 video, checking that out now. 2nd Edit: Apparently Magus solo vs. Lavos part 2 precedes this video.
+Jon Wareham You're welcome! Hmm, I'm going to have to rewatch the video to see what you two are talking about. I don't believe the original went back and showed part of the battle, so it must be an encoding glitch. Too bad I don't have the original file anymore.
Awesome ending! They make you think everyone was going to abandon saving Crono, and then Gaspar forgets to give anyone the Time Egg! I would love to see how saving Crono would have played out since Lavos had already been defeated.
Magus is so awesome. He's even more awesome when you give him an item that reduces his magic point use by half. So when he does magic, it only costs half of his magic. So handy when you are fighting Lavos!
The repetition of the last scene between the 2nd and 3rd movies was intentional, in case only the 3rd was watched. The long delay at the end of the 1st movie was not intentional, however--I didn't have the software needed at the time to remove this from the clip.
That would be pretty cool, wouldn't it? Too bad the programmers didn't think about this cool little "easter egg". Unfortunately there's no way to play solely with Magus, except through the use of PAR codes. If you check some of the older comments here, you'll see how I did this. Incidentally, it's possible to play solo with any character. I once beat Lavos using only Marle, but that was pretty boring to watch so I didn't upload it here!
If you read some of the previous comments, then you would know the answer. He used PAR codes on his emulator. It allows you to have the second and third characters disappear during the battles.
Okay-- *SPOILERS* The 47 second mark shows some foresight on the part of the CT team. It proves that Lavos isn't as dead as you might think...at least in some form, Lavos is still alive, even at the end of Chrono Trigger...
Yeah, these old Chrono Trigger videos have a long and torturous history on RUclips...they even managed to corrupt the videos at one point such that frames from a different video were inserted. Very odd.
Another fun ending is a wedding scene (that's not Crono and Nadia). I'll leave it to anyone wanting to unlock it to watch it for themselves so I won't be spoiling anything.
+komodo eightyfour That is WEIRD. It is NOT supposed to do that, and has been posted to RUclips for years without that glitch. It looks like RUclips somehow combined the "Part 2" video with this one. I don't have the original video anymore, so unfortunately cannot restore it. Too bad.
Kinda wondering why the youtuber in question is arguing with commentators when s/he could just as easily strictly explain in a professional manner and just leave it at that one comment. Nice video though.
+PandaXclone2 Because I don't respond particularly well to insulting, derogatory and inflammatory comments that insinuate I've done something wrong when I haven't. Most people don't.
And you have the right to hold that regard. Still, it gives the impression that you have a short temper, don't respond well to advice and criticism and thus you're probably not a good youtuber if you argue with your viewers. It's simply better to just let it slide because you're being better than the commentators instead of dragging yourself down. And to be fair people are really just giving you criticism on how you handle your video publishing. It is a fair point to show in either the description or an annotation in all the videos in this set, explaining that this is part of a set of videos but also how you are doing this. It's not really an obligation but it quiets down people who complain on the matter and thus gives you less hard of a time for it. It's only after the fact that first comment and you continue to reply that things go downhill from there. Just so you know, I'm not attacking you for shits and giggles or trying to rile you up. I'm just giving you some advice on how you can handle your videos and your viewers. You don't have to take it though, just leaving it here.
To be honest, you're completely right. I wished I had never replied, showing some grace and just fixing the intro comments that had been messed up by RUclips's reformatting. But those comments were made on a particularly bad day and my response was instead to lash out. The other commenter didn't deserve that. The funny thing is, I barely have a temper at all. I'm repeatedly asked IRL why I don't get upset about things that would anger most. But on that specific day I didn't have any patience left.
I know that feeling. I myself am one to let things slide because I'd rather less conflict than more, but because of that it gets bottled up and one day just can't be anymore. This was a good conversation.
Lavos face looks like Hulk Hogan with a beard and dew rag. 1st time playing/beating the game this month... and man. Hulk Hogan eats people. Never knew.
You can solo with Crono without cheating. Just start a New Game + and then take the portal at the Fair. To solo with anyone else, yes, you do have to use PAR codes.
"Hey! I forgot to give them the thing that will bring Crono back to life! Oh well!" Damn... SO HEARTLESS... wait I should finish the vi-- (Comment posted)
Yep, it's no secret ending after all. I realized 30 minutes after posting that it was a common ending, but it was too late by then to change the title. As for getting Magus solo--no, you can't do it legitimately. I used PAR codes to empty the 2nd and 3rd character slots. These codes could be used to make ANY solo party, by the way. I've beaten Lavos using only Marle but that was a very boring video!
makes sense that magus should be the one to kill lavos. he had the most invested after what happened to zeal. it's a shame he was only a side character, he was the most interesting person in chrono trigger.

Maybe he was chasing the Time Egg to save Schala
@@haydenbennett3547 chrono cross isnt a sequel to chrono trigger
Magus is easily my most favourite character in gaming
Should have tried naming the family cat Alfador instead.
uh yeah lol.

*Now Fortnite is his favourite game and also his defalut characters above Magus*
This is just the 'Chrono is Dead' ending.
Nothing to do with Solo Magus at all.

When they all had to go back to their time, that Robo said "This really is the last we will see of each other", like it had a heart.
You do not get your emotions from your heart. Lucca could have programmed those emotions into Robo
It depends on when and how you beat it, not necessarily who you beat it with

Black Hole just doesn't work on bosses. It rarely even works on common enemies.
Scratch that last comment. Black Hole can work reliably if Magus's teammates target the enemies furthest from him. Still shouldn't work on bosses.
SuperParkourio I only had luck with it working on one of the flames from the Son of Sun battle.
The prize for the 3rd challenge is Cat Food. You can use it to feed Crono's cat. Keep feeding it and you'll eventually get more cats--up to 15 if I remember correctly. One of them (the 12th one?) even looks like Alfador...

youre correct. Magus MUST be the one to kill Lavos to bring justice to Schala... Well maybe Belthasar will be happy because he missed her...
You can't normally do this. I used Pro Action Replay (PAR) codes. Check out the 1st video in the series - Magus vs Lavos part 1 - for info.
Magus= vegeta + piccolo
Well, after Crono dies, you can replace him with any other character you like. Even after you rescue him with the egg, he becomes "replaceable".
He's got a powerful magic, Luminaire. Combined with Magus' Dark Matter, you can take loads of HP from your enemies.

Is that a result of the game glitching out from the pro action replay? Also I'm curious, what happens after you beat the boss a second time?
Edit: Just noticed the part 2 video, checking that out now.
2nd Edit: Apparently Magus solo vs. Lavos part 2 precedes this video.
Jon Wareham Had the same problem when I played this video. It could be a glitch with the video which is really weird.
+Jon Wareham You're welcome! Hmm, I'm going to have to rewatch the video to see what you two are talking about. I don't believe the original went back and showed part of the battle, so it must be an encoding glitch. Too bad I don't have the original file anymore.

Magus is so awesome. He's even more awesome when you give him an item that reduces his magic point use by half. So when he does magic, it only costs half of his magic. So handy when you are fighting Lavos!
There also exists an item that reduces MP cost by 75% too, so you only use a quarter of your magic.
Yep--this was a normal game file (I didn't use New Game +).
Pro Action Replay codes. The ones to use are buried in the comments here somewhere...
The repetition of the last scene between the 2nd and 3rd movies was intentional, in case only the 3rd was watched. The long delay at the end of the 1st movie was not intentional, however--I didn't have the software needed at the time to remove this from the clip.

@Ainigma its called the "brink of time" you can get it at ffextreme, com

Unfortunately there's no way to play solely with Magus, except through the use of PAR codes. If you check some of the older comments here, you'll see how I did this.
Incidentally, it's possible to play solo with any character. I once beat Lavos using only Marle, but that was pretty boring to watch so I didn't upload it here!
Read the description.
If you read some of the previous comments, then you would know the answer. He used PAR codes on his emulator. It allows you to have the second and third characters disappear during the battles.
Kudos to you, by the way. Not very many people notice that.
Look around carefully in 12000 BC after Zeal and the Blackbird are destroyed...

@jtrevor99
You should write this on the description so you don't need to explain all the time how to solo with magus.
como faço esse final
He forgot to give them the time egg which saves chrono's life.
@kaell123 there would be an end of time, it had exited before that guy was there....
Lucca misses him, too!
That's open to debate! Many people think so.
This is the usual ending you get when you don't revive Crono...
Lavos face looks like Hulk Hogan with a beard and dew rag. 1st time playing/beating the game this month... and man. Hulk Hogan eats people. Never knew.
You can solo with Crono without cheating. Just start a New Game + and then take the portal at the Fair.
To solo with anyone else, yes, you do have to use PAR codes.
how exactly do you get these PAR codes to work? i activated them, and the game accpeted it but i still have all three characters.
"Hey! I forgot to give them the thing that will bring Crono back to life! Oh well!"
Damn... SO HEARTLESS... wait I should finish the vi-- (Comment posted)
You wouldn't have had Chrono Cross without Chrono Trigger you know.
Oughta give Radical Dreamers a try too.
....speeds off trying to get to 88mph, hits the DeLorean in the air, neither has insurance... Time travel IS so exhausting!
in the PS1 version Frog becomes a human being again.
Lucca's BEst line: Nya Ha ha.
I've beaten Lavos using only Marle but that was a very boring video!
what secret??? this ending are in my memory card or on my SNES.
