God what a wonderful mod, one of the few horror mods that I really really like. The vibes are on point, the mechanics are fun, the monsters all look great. Plus, content that draws inspiration from real-world fiction always excites me. This mod *seems* to draw a lot from stories about the greek underworld (most obviously in the fact that pomegranates tether your to the afterlife. The status effect Cimmerian also seems to be a reference to Homer’s description of the Cimmerian people as a race that lives in the darkness at the gates of the afterlife), as well as from Sir Orfeo which is a medieval poem that rewrites the greek story of Orpheus to fit into celtic mythos (The term Ympe Tree comes from Sir Orfeo, but also the Fairyking’s court in Sir Orfeo is also the afterlife inhabited by both fairies and the dead, which Sir Orfeo accesses through a tunnel in the forest. ) The entire mod just feels so well researched, almost everything in the mod is a reference to some ancient myth, poem, or obscure theosophical concept. And yes, Aylyth is inspired by Over the Garden Wall, Twin Peaks and other forest-based horror-mysteries, Lovecraft (not any specific entity/story, but the overall vibe of mystery realms and the like), various underworld stories (as some have seen with the pomegranates, but also with the grapes and marigolds), among other things. And we're not done! We've started planning the next update, which should have a few bosses, some new tiers of gear, some new creatures (hostile and neutral), and more.

it’s not that eating pomegranates will bind you to hell, it’s that consuming any food of the underworld is taboo, although i’ve also heard (but couldn’t find in a quick 5 minute refresher research) that it’s something to do with the guest-host relationship of ancient greece, perhaps something as in if you consume something in your hosts house you are then obliged to be a guest or something to that effect, although it’s been a hot minute since i was obsessed with ancient greece
FInally! A mod that adds a kind of infection that if you don't do anything to stop it turns you into a monster. It's what I was missing from the betweenlands. I love this so much!
ngl, idc about anything from this mod but the mob mechanics and models, that's cool. I feel there are too many "here's another bare bones dimension" mods out there that would be better implemented as biomes (like this one). But the way to cross over is unique in this mod, which is nice for a change.
To be fair this is just our first "survival update" release (as the mod was made under a time limit originally, for a contest), but we're far from done, expect things like more unique biomes, mobs, and even bosses and special weapons later!
I don't know why this mode didn't attract the attention of RUclipsrs who repeat the challenge of surviving for 100 days ad nauseam. They literally make dozens of videos of mods for different skin versions of Crawler, but they don't actually challenge themselves with these mods. Of course, the most miss thing is that they should have at least updated to 1.20.1 tho, that would be nice..

@@thebullet8078 This mod does have secret lore in a way I want to imply in future updates, but I will say it does not involve any ancient civs or the like. Even the greatest wizard who ever entered here would eventually fall to the branches long before they could start a castle, and they'd soon be reduced to just another random scion or aylythian.
