Great video. Really explains it well. I have a new one of those hose attachments and I am definitely going to have to listen to this video more than once. Keep up the great work and I do appreciate the work you do to get this out to people like me.
I have Jamur Zoysia down here in Texas and I have found that Zoysia really needs to be kept near 2 inches. If you let it get too long then it looks like crap when you cut it down too fast. Glad it wasn't just me! I tried going long the second year I had it and it got real leggy with lots of stems showing. Zoysia is a beautiful turf and feels awesome to walk on. Really enjoying you showing off Zoysia in your videos.
I love the simple breakdown on the math involved. Great advice on getting to know your gear. One of my first mistakes after spraying my new lawn (270 sqft townhouse lawn) was not understanding this and using too much weed killer. Yup, killed a lot of my TTTF lawn, in the spring. Learned a good leason that I was reminded of daily as I pulled up to my dead spots in the lawn. Every. Day. 😂 It's also how I learned that TTTF doesn't spread 😂
Is it better rent a dethatcher and aerator from Sunbelt in the spring or just start using the liquid stuff now? My zoysia lawn suffered dearly from the drought and needs it.
I've gotten N-ext products on my skin. It stains, so if you are expecting to get it off in one washing you're going to be washing your hands for awhile. Usually takes about a week before it all comes off. The worst is getting it on your clothes, it never comes out, so don't wear your good pair of jeans, haha!
I"m putting down some "Simple lawn solutions" soil aerator (60% ammonium laureth sulfate) . Would it be wise to wait on throwing down liquid fert after? the packaging doesn't saying anything for or against it.
So I just found out yesterday that the graduated markings on my ortho are way off. My 32 oz only fills to 28 in my actual graduated cylinder. Both on level surfaces.
My Build a Box should arrive here next week in Northern California. We’re Cool Season, and I have a tall fescue lawn that is 40 years old. Never been dethatched or aerated. I noticed you said we could apply dethatch every 2-3 weeks. This lawn has a lot of thatch, so could I apply this March - Dec at that frequency? Or should I back off during the hot summer months (June -Aug)? I also got Carbon-X, so I will be applying monthly Mar-May and Sept-Nov. I also got Air8, Humic and RGS. Going to have a lot of fun seeing what all this does to this old lawn. 😊
You can apply D-Thatch every 2-3 weeks and get down 3 applications total in summer - that would be best for you. The hotter, the better. The Air8, RGS and Humic12 will be great for your soil all winter for sure.
I just did a lawn renovation and the seedlings are just coming up. Can I use dethatch to get rid of the rest of the dead grass? Will it hurt anything or should I wait?
I just picked up the bio stim pack. Do you prefer to spray the N-Ext products with a hose-end sprayer over a backpack pump sprayer? I already own a nice Chapin backpack sprayer...help me decide if I should pick up a cheap Ortho hose end for these kinds of applications.
I've used Hydretain for years, but does Air8 do the same thing as far as allowing the soil, or sand in the case of SW FL, to absorb more water? I realize Air8 doesn't 'grab' moisture from the air like Hydretain does.
@@TheLawnCareNut I applied Hydretain last in May when my irrigation goes dry before the rain returns, then Air8 & Dethatch 2X in July. I had some really hard, compacted areas in the yard and now those areas are really soft, like the sand has been turned. Going to use RGS this year to hopefully force some root growth to avoid the die off in the St. Aug.
I live in the Tampa Bay area. I have St. Augustine grass that was sodded in February of 2019, but has been brutalized by my amateur care. Brown dead patches mixed evenly everywhere. I got some help on how much to water, the proper fertilizer, etc. I was going to rent a power rake to dethatch, would you recommend the liquid d-thatch over mechanically doing it?
Mechanical dethatching will destroy St Augustine. It's tough to make progress in winter so for now, just slow feed it with fert and mow tall. In March, April and May it will thicken back up naturally.
I'm on my second year with Zoysia, the first year I didn't take care of and didn't establish well. I can say yard looking good this year but saw a video from you on new sod and saying mow at least 3' for 2-years and water 1.5" a week.Should I bring down to 2"? or leave at 3" I have a reel mower that highest is 2" but have been using a rotary at 3". Thanks Allyn
I ordered the stimulant pack over the weekend. I’m in Georgia and have some extremely thin Bermuda in my backyard. Hoping this kit will help to kick it in to gear. I just put down some Sunniland 24-0-11. How soon can I start the program once I receive?
"Teaches this to your kids" this is even complicated for myself 😂😂😂 I sucked in math!!!!!🤣🤣🤣damm bit thanks for the video I would love to try this on my lawn
Good Evening LCN! If even after repeated careful raking I have a few live oak leaves worked into my St. Aug (hard with those runners!) and also have a bit of dead thatch going on, to a worthwhile degree, will the liquid dethatch help St. Augustine stolons to reach the soil, root, and spread faster, or should this not be considered a primary benefit/too negligible? Thanks! -John in Melbourne
The D-Thatch won't break down the leaves, but it will help with the dead grass. However, beneath oaks your biggest challenge are the salts that wash off the leaves with it rains - that in turn changes the soil composition and thins out the St Augustine below. The best way to combat that is with Humic Acid in the soil. Humic12 and Air8 being the primary products there.
Hey LNC, I moved into a house with st aug. my old house had Bermuda 419. I have 2 26” jakes. I know it’s probably not the right thing to do but I cut my st aug to 1.25”, it’s been fine all summer. Really don’t like the shag look. Could damage the lawn?

I’m not real precise at all with my ortho sprayer with the measurements of product. I still get good results generally speaking. Anybody else spray like that?
With these products you can throw down more and it won't hurt anything - but I also wouldn't want you to use more than needed and waste it. However, there are some guys who like to spray down humic every week and they are having good results.
I have some Liquid Iron, Sea Kelp and the Liquid Lawn fertilizer that I mostly spray. I have gone lighter than what some may recommend just to dial in myself a bit as I learn. These are fun cocktails even though it’s completely non-scientific. Thx for replying LCN, been watching since the IN days!
I'm surprised your GoPro hasn't started growing roots with all that RGS you hit it with.

i just overseeded my lawn 2 weeks ago how long do i have wait to apply Dethatch
you can spray it now, wont hurt anything
But definitely add RGS too since you seeded. Definitely helps existing turf and great start to seedings.
Does Dthatch contain unsulphured molasses? Just wondering if it has SO2.

A lower ounce per gallon rate on the Ortho will let you get more water down in the process and increase your dilution rate.
I like to run mine at a 2oz. Then just take my time with the squirting.
more squirting, more ferting. Pure joy.

Just the gallons in 4 packs for now.

Sounds like a design flaw or an old plastic mold that needs to be retooled.

Yes you can spray it down on the new seeding , won't hurt anything at all. Take advantage of the warm temps we stilll have.
I have zoysia but like it because I don't have to mow it often. What is the problem with letting it grow and stay around 5" high?
