    I bought Dirt the day it came out and on my edition ‘Down in a Hole’ is track 12 between "Angry Chair" and "Would?". Now the CD and Vinyl have ‘Down in a Hole’ as track 4, between ‘Rain When I Die’ and ‘Sickman’. Apparently, that’s the track listing the band originally wanted but Columbia Records changed the order.

    • @coolcole6417
      @coolcole6417 3 года назад +2

      Huh. I never knew that. Now that you’ve said that, it makes sense to be in that order in terms of the context of the album

    • @michaelblaine6494
      @michaelblaine6494 Год назад +3

      Yeah from the 1993 pressing onward they did the track list that way. About 1 in 4 people I knew had that original version and there was no internet the look it up on. It seems like Down In A Hole was meant to be the last song and they threw Would? on the end,even lyrically it seems that way. I was wondering if anyone else was gonna comment on that. Shows our age😝

    One thing to correct: not just sickman, god smack and junkhead are about drug abuse, also dirt (you..you are so special, you have the talent, to make me feel like dirt -> heroin. If you have been addicted and read the lyrics you will soon see yourself in it), angry chair (pink cloud has now turn to grey, all that i want is to play and so on) and hate to feel have references to drug addiction (All this time I swore I'd never be like my old man -> Laynes dad was an heroin addict). But as always..great video!

      Dirt was written by Jerry...he was talking about alcohol most likely. It was his drug of choice.

    • @dohmsdek463
      @dohmsdek463 3 года назад

      @@fartingpickle7255 David de Sola writes in his book about AIC - composed of interviews, articels, etc. from the AIC guys and the ones surrounded them - that Layne wrote especially Hate to Feel and Angry Chair -> Lyrics and Guitar. You can also find it in the notes on the album (just go to the articel of Dirt on Wikipedia). The same with Godsmack, Dirt, Junkhead and Sickman but Staley wrote just the lyrics, not the music. That was Cantrells work. Also Cantrell said about Angry Chair and Hate to Feel that he is very proud of Layne cause he wrote such good songs which had the typical bendy AiC feel to it. Why would Cantrell write about his Dad in Hate to Feel (who was in Vietnam) and would swear that he never would be like him - but Layne writing about his dad - also an ex-heroin addict - is more reasonable. Also a nice funfact: Lanegan writes in his memoirs that Layne and he send Laynes dad selling crack on the streets for them to fund their drug habit. They lived after Demris dead for a couple of months all together in Lanegans apartment. Edit: Layne wrote the songs in rehab.

    • @wesrogers7630
      @wesrogers7630 3 года назад +2

      Dirt is not about heroin. Actually lots of these songs have multiple meanings. Layne and Jerry wrote this song. Layne has said it was about someone he loved and hated, hinting at Demri and Jerry could also have written this about someone. It is not about heroin. I know many songs are about drugs, but not everyone. These guys spoke what they truly felt, they were much more complex than to only write about drugs. Layne did say he wished he had written songs differently years later, because he felt many may have misinterpreted. Except for one song, the rest don't glamorize drugs. They speak of the horrors about them. Hate to feel is about heroin. He talks about it now becoming a habit not just for fun.

    You make a point to say all of band members were suffering from addiction; namely Layne, Mike and Sean, but you leave Jerry out? You do know they Jerry was the biggest cokehead of any of the 90s bands, right? It's like the people who say Jerry had food poisoning at the unplugged show. Jerry did not eat a bad hotdog from a street vendor and get food poisoning, he was hammered and did a shit ton of blow to try to even himself out. If you're going to talk about Layne and Mike using when you speak about AiC, you really should include Jerry.
