I always think of Incesticide as Nirvana's second album, between Bleach and Nevermind. And it actually does sound exactly like their music is transitioning from the dark and grungy Bleach to the brighter and catchier Nevermind.

Everything thing from that time impresses me. Dale Crover was amazing and they seemed to really be their own band. Bleach was good but it may just me projecting here, it sounded like they were trying to sound like a Seattle Sub Pop band. I mean they were a Seattle sub pop band but they were still alot more "grungey" and didnt show their particular whacky hard pop style except for Love Buzz, and About a Girl was just really weird. From what I can tell, those recordings sounded like Kurt wanting to be in Olympia scene. He lived in the same building as Slim Moon of the Kill Rock Stars label and he tried his damnest to get on Calvin Johnsons K records. Unfortunately, he kinda made a bad impression on Slim cause he was super excited about the Kinks album and called Slim in his apartment to listen to it. Thats the "My Sharona" band. Calvin Johnson supported them as much as they needed. Thats guy he gives bands alot of attention for a few weeks to a month and drops them flat no explanation. Its usually after they get some buzz going or record an album. Like, around incesticides released he had an insanely substantial Modest Mouse recorded but it never saw the light of day till like 2003. Calvin Johnson seems to be the guy who prefers to get people started rather than actually working with them while they go. As far as nirvana is concerned, he let them play their full set live on the radio, KAOS radio and brought kurt by himself back again when they were in band limbo when they fired Chad. Many musicians feel slighed by this and have a negative opinion of the dude later when they get big for treating them like royalty seeing to their every need for a week and recording them quick then not returning phone calls all the sudden. Kurt even wrote in 93 "I made 2 million dollars last year and Calvin Johnson ain't getting a penny!". Its weird stuff. Its just his way. Johnson likes to be the guy who introduces people to music more than anything and in 90s thats how he conducted himself. Probably still does now.

STP's 'Core', AIC's 'Dirt', and (of course) good ol' 'Incesticide'. It's a pretty incredible collection of songs that I've always treasured. rock on, man... when I went to 8th grade in 1991, most of my fellow teenage brethren in junior high hadn't been interested in music apart from the kids in the school band or the few skater kids who played their older brother’s guitar but by the summer of 1992 those same kids who weren't into music before had their parents buy them electric guitars and bass and drums and were making the most beautiful noise in their parents’ garages and basements and attics. We were very fortunate to be teenagers at that time, man!

I bought this when it came out on tape, cd and vinyl because why not? The vinyl is a cool blue marble color. Pretty sure it was limited to the first pressing. Weird they did it in double LP format for the anniversary. This collection of songs is an excellent document and analysis of the band developing and evolving up to the Nevermind era. Back then I remember being really impressed with the songs Stain, Dive and Aneurysm. Used to drive around with this album blasting all the time.

The day I bought “Incesticide” as a teenager in the 1990s, my neighbor Lucy & I used hydrogen peroxide (since my hair was so thicK & bLacK) to sorta “dye” my hair, giving it patches of a reddish, rusty look amongst my regular black hair. We listened to the CD twice in a row as Lucy did what she could with my hair & the peroxide and then we smoked some pot and zoned out listening to the album a third time before her boyfriend came home from worK with some beer and I proceeded to get underage drunK (oh, the days of my misspent youth...) with Oscar & Lucy, who, like everyone else, also had “Nevermind” and I remember it was they had a 3-disc CD player and so we put both Nirvana CD’s in it on “shuffle” and we jumped about drunK, rocking out with their stereo as loud as it couLd go untíL, instead of going home, Oscar told me I could pass out in their bed, which I did and when I woKe uP, Lucy was crashed out on the other side of the bed and Oscar was asleep on their couch, so I left them a note and a bud to smoke and went Home to my Ma’s, who was happy that I hadn't blared “Incesticide” the night before in her & her boyfriend's small apartment cuz our neighbors were bitchy about noise and wasn't even pissed off that Lucy & I fucKed with my thick black Native American hair; in fact, Ma let me pLay “Incesticide” (just once, tho) on her 4-speaker stereo that we had crammed into this shoebox apartment at a moderate volume on the condition that I smoked some of my pot with her. My Ma had turned me on to Soundgarden before Nirvana hit, and actually had the cassette of “Bleach” in her tape collection from one of her college-age friends unbeknownst to me for months before I realized that my Ma had a tape of the first album of the band we all got into in 1991, which had me making copies of that cassette for my friends on tape cuz, until “Incesticide” came out and Nirvana put out another album, “Nevermind” and “Bleach” (and I remember the CD single of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” having two other songs on it that weren't on the first two albums) there wasn't as much Nirvana recordings available at the time, especially since I was only a teenager who was lucky enough to have - despite being a Baby Boomer - a Mom who had (and still has, I have to concede) an ear for what was going to be hip and good in music... which is why “Incesticide” was worth dying my hair over and getting stoned & drunK with my neighbors when I bought it. 15 songs, man... the first half (like a vinyl record) is catchy, punked-up pop tunes and then there's these wild, bizarre and heavy tracks that kinda sounded like “Bleach” but wilder... it's one of my favorite albums and that CD that I bought lasted a long time through many house parties and various dwellings with me (unlike, for instance, my original vinyl copy of “In Utero” being stolen 🖕😡) up until sometime in the late-2000’s at least... for all I know, the CD itself and the CD “cover/booklet” (which I remember reading for the first time thinking “this guy just don't give a fuck!”) may still be warehoused in Ma's basement where alot of the debris from my youth has been kept...

I have to say that Aero Zeppelin was more about how virtually every hard rock band at the time was overly influenced by the 2 acts Led Zep and Aerosmith and how redundantly boring that type of music and style had become.

“Although I listened to Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin, and I really did enjoy some of the melodies they’d written, it took me so many years to realize that a lot of it had to do with sexism. The way that they just wrote about their dicks and having sex. I was just starting to understand what really was pissing me off so much those last couple years of high school. And then punk rock was exposed and then it all came together. It just fit together like a puzzle. It expressed the way I felt socially and politically. Just everything. You know. It was the anger that I felt. The alienation.” -Blank on Blank, 1993

F*ck nevermind (even though it's a great album). This is better it's such a awesome compilation. and I like it more than never mind. I love the rawness and the underground feel. Super underrated and it's criminal that nobody ever recognized this as a classic album. You're not a Nirvana fan if you don't like any of these songs. trust me listen to bleach then listen to this. Then listen to never mind then listen to In utero and you'll know this, bleach and in utero are the best. I say in utero is my favorite then bleach then this then never mind.

When it comes to replays, Bleach and Incesticide get the most. I don't if it's an authentic preference. Or if it's because you get to hear tracks off of Nevermind and In Utero without even trying. I really wish this got a CD remaster like the other albums.

I think. All of the Jack Endino recording productions value, inside at the Nirvana's vibe. It's the best sounding productions ever. Even Bleach sounds great to my ears.
I know, there are some many music around from the band, and the soundung production values were beign better and bigger. But they were a far away from the Nirvana Soul catching vibe as i can think. But assuming about that. In Utero it's another kind of monster. And inside on those recordings production values. It's really an improvement.
Of Course; Nevermind still the best at the sounding efforts. But; it's a Pop album. But to heavy and very satured if you ask me. Not like an a Pop Standards.
