I still miss Jerry! After I learned this song and played it straight thru for the first time, I bawled from "spent doin time ..." until the end. 13 years since Papa been gone. Fare thee well.

I look back on my life and am very glad that I had the drug experiences I did. they taught me alot about myself and about this great big world around me. Psychedelic drugs in particular helped me escape from my intoverted, depressed shell and bloom into the well-balanced man I am now. I don't know how I would react if I tripped today like I used to trip then...who knows? All I know is that at that stage of my life (17 - 20 years old) it was the right thing for me and utterly invaluable
Deadhead since Donna and Keith were introduced in the mid 70's. I know they will never be the same, but I love this band and I will take them anyway I can get them. See you all in the Spring.
i never got to see the dead live dude, i was too young to attend a show, and didnt REALLY get into them til after jerry had already passed. so be glad you got to see him on stage man
Watch Phil do his slow "dips" facing the drummers (from 1:05- 1:19)into "I got no dime" head/bass thrust (1:21). I love these years... so soulful and slow.
I like how you said 'look for food,' and 'try to find change' I myself am I drummer/percussionist, my teacher was taught by vic firth. just putting that out there hehe, Now, if you did not do drugs trust me I have seen it, good musicians cant concentrate or learn as quickly as they could before and just loose there touch. Drugs cannot physically be good for you, they block nerve synapses in the brain (mostly) same thing as many old people type memory diaseases cause by nervous fluidoingtesame
i might have red rocks 78 on cassette -go n 2 c phil sat jul 5 in iowa free show -hope to c u thair-toured for -10 good solid years 85-95-seen rat D but not phil-peace-callin a box encore let ya know-thouh unbroken would b nice!
I was 7 yrs old and rasied by very anti liberal parents, when this album was released, however, My parents wanted to know What happened? I told them, I know - I have -and do live by the Dead's mantra. DO YOU?
and, could you have become more succesful, accomplish goals, and learn more about the world, or did drugs just screw up connections in your brain and dampen all of that?

This song is a massterpiece story and this is a fine verison of it. There will never be another like the great Jerry Garcia.
Man, those NYE shows were something else. Love this song - named my NOLA Katrina rescue dog August West after it.

The Donna and Keith era is my favorite. They were at their best. Well 1990 was pretty amazing.

the drug experience and the grateful dead experience are mutually exclusive.
not everyone mixes the two to enjoy one or the other.
