  • In this episode of BeachinSurfTV we got our hands on a Rusty Traveler which is the board I personally chose for travelling with and was stoked to chat about it. This board is designed for double overhead surf upwards and is perfect for travelling to a diverse range of locations. I would highly recommend this board if you want to be comfortable taking on bigger surf around 6-10ft.

      Hi I Mac
My recommendation if you are going to be heading out in surf that is going to test paddle power and test the ability a bit is to add a litre and get a 6' 5 x 18 3/4 x 2 7/16 29.9L. The benefit of adding a bit more foam is you're going to be more competitive when the crowds get a bit heavier at places like Uluwatu. I did this recently and added some more foam and found that I was much more competitve and getting a lot more waves than I normally would in conditions that I don't get to surf often ie; 8ft.
If you are going to be charging surf that is over 10ft and you want more of a "big wave" board then I would consider forgetting about litreage and start thinking about something that is more along the lines of 7'0 x 18 3/4 x 2 1/2. The Hawaiians are good examples where they aren't afraid to chuck some extra foam under the foot to handle bigger and better surf.
I believe the 6'5 will go best for you. If you think that is too much foam you can look at narrowing the board a tad to 18 1/2 but keep the thickness. Feel free to also give the guys at Beachin Surf a call on 02 43 965159 to chat about boards as they have a few in at the moment. Peter the owner has a background surfing Pipe, Ulus and some other good big wave locations and he's pretty good to talk to about that stuff.
Hope that helps I MAC and feel free to shout out with any questions. Yew!
