Another fantastic vid. My headlight restoration and leather interior repair services generate a substantial revenue stream. Most detailing clients aren't even aware this is possible. I simply explain it is less costly to restore than replace. Providing education and value to my customers. 🍻
Great video again Yvan! I’m going to split my details now and not include interiors in the package. I’m getting caught in a maelstrom of French fries, pet hair, sand and fingernails! I offer a choice of quality air fresheners which goes over very well. Another service I’m asked for is alloy wheel repair and I might find a sub contractor for that and others you mentioned
Once again great content. Don't always sell 'em what they want, sell them what they NEED! You just have to convince them they need it. Remember, you'll get 100% of what you DON'T ask for. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
I ran a Rotary Buffing -Polishing service for many years in Australia , being a Auto Painter as well I would often pick-up paintwork on cars that could not be buffed back it was a very profitable addition
Yvan- I’ve spent like a year trying to get technical tips; improve the skills, but the business side is too crucial!! Like you’ve said before, you can’t provide quality service when you go out of business as a result of inappropriately pricing yourself. You’ll never know how much you’ve helped the little guys like me. Keep on keepin on 🤘 let me know if you come to train around San Diego!
Awesome video Yvan! Love this one. I am glad you touched on so many services and when to offer vs do it yourself. One thing I see that many detailers do not offer is selling/installing Husky or WeatherTech floor liners to make that next/future interior detail easier and helps resale! Another item is cabin air filters when really deep cleaning an interior, easy to buy cheap with an auto parts store commercial account and upsell for a bit more over retail price, folks love it and feel I care!
One absolutely fantastic upsell I do, especially when doing suburbans or mom vehicles, is to offer cleaning the kids seats! We already have to remove them from the vehicle to clean under and around them, then it hit me just to do them when they’re out!
Interior by estimate concept great idea. I used to have it based on size with 'some conditions merit higher price' but that leads to 'oh, its not that bad response'. Now I have ' starting at $150' and guess what they all say ' oh my vehicle is not that bad so $150 sounds fair'. Estimate only is fair to the tidy autos and the not so tidy, because I get

At what point do you decide that PPF is a financially viable option for your business? 3-day certification workshops are over $1,200, then you have to figure in the cost of a plotter, materials, after which seems like financial suicide. Do you think it's feasible for a solo operation to carry PPF?
Wow, tons of great info! So with a full detail I shouldnt clean the wheel barrels? What about wheels where the wheel barrel is very visible? I always try to clean the barrels as good as I can with a brush without removing the wheels and felt I'd upcharge for wheel off to get barrels and wells perfect. Sometimes I literally spend almost a hour trying to clean the barrels good. I charge $200 for a full exterior detail with wax and cleaning door jambs. So at that price point I should skip wheel barrels?

Hi Yvan Love all your content ! Where do you offer training or information on detailing process and procedures. You mentioned in one pod cast on doing a dealer detail for $150. I am struggling getting that quality even close to the hour and a half you mentioned it should take
Thanks for commenting. Once the pandemic subsides we will resume our training sessions on the road. Living in a tour bus allows us the flexibility to come to you. In your case it can be accomplished by coaching over the phone.
If ever you have a customer that notices, explain to them that it’s an extra charge to do barrels. Cleaning wheel barrels makes you a hobbyist , charging for them makes you a professional. When you have an oil change done the mechanic doesn’t change your brakes unless you pay for it.
I have a question Yvan. I am in South Florida.. I have one of the more "premiere" detailing companies down here. I have been having a very hard time obtaining new customers. Is there anything you can do to help in that aspect?
Definitely, it’s part of my coaching, that said the biggest aspect of gaining new customers is advertising. Word of mouth works, but it isn’t the only way.
This is amazing information! I agree that it is very important to be the business in your area to offer up-sell's with your services. In my opinion, this is where local "networking" comes into play and examining the subcontractors that are available to you is super important. What are your thoughts on this? Do you agree?

Normally when they say it’s not bad, hazmat wear may be needed. When a customer says that it’s atrocious, they are often very clean.

What's your opinion on engine bay detailing?
If you’re customers want to pay for it, by all means, do it.
Hey! For paint touch up would you buy various colors of paint colors?
There are many kits available on the market that give you a variety of colours. I had a system that used the cars colour code and we mixed our own.,
Which cleaners protect in one?
There are a few , check with your supplier to see what they carry.

Wheel barrel cleaning? YES? Why do detailers waste time doing this on a regular wash or detail? Excellent upcharge idea.
Thanks, it’s more of a time saver, as not many customers will actually care enough to pay for the service.
If the barrels are in decent shape, i clean them, if they are completely black i dont, but i never thought of doing it as an upsell, brilliant!
