Good mods for this line of printers. You should look into getting a Pi4 and convert to Klipper firmware (relatively easy and reduces print times). If you do, then you can install a touch probe and setup UART mode for even finer refinement (your board will probably be a clone Trigorilla board) for those drivers as well as remote print like your current firmware. Did that with my Mega X and its night and day from stock.
Typically for something like the top shielding of an SD card reader, since it is broken and will not be used again, I will simply clip/cut the legs, remove the shield, then remove any debris from the solder pads.

The beginning of the SD card repair was importent to see. What have you done when you desoldering the metal cap?
