CORRECTION: commenter @IMissBionix noted that Gundam Build Fighters' dub isn't really an Animax dub, "Animax dub" is really just a general term people use in relation to English dubs for Southeast Asian audiences. GBF's dub was made around the time Bandai in America was winding down, however Bandai Asia had model kits to sell and didn't wait for the NA situation. We still stand by including the dub on this list because it was made officially available internationally, even though it wasn't fit for other English-speaking markets. Just keep in mind that it wasn't really competing with US dubs to begin with, even though we all ended up seeing it on the Gundam YT channel. Also we cited ANN's page regarding Medi-Lan's body of work but it's likely they've worked on other as well, as dubs like that don't always credit their actors & crew. What anime do YOU wish got a redub?
There was actually talk about redubbing Ghost In The Shell for the 2.0 version of the film with the SAC cast, but that fell through. I would feel incredibly conflicted about redubbing the film now without Kevin Seymour, and I sure many of the staff and cast would have mixed feelings about it. For what it's worth, Oshii was there during the dub sessions. He was apparently frustrated with the process compared to Japan. It took a month in the US, but a week in Japan (as the actors all recorded together). I think that frustration, probably some conflicts with the English and Japanese staff, and then this being such an early dub just made the result what it is. Part of me wonders if Kevin Seymour would have had a better result without Oshii over his shoulder. He dubbed Innocence without Oshii and it's an excellent dub. Maybe if Richard Epcar or Mary Elizabeth McGlynn directed it with Mary Claypool's script, it'd be ok, but I just can't help but think they'd be weary about redoing Kevin's work.
I'm hesitant to see a redub because Tom Wyner's performance as Puppet Master is genuinely amazing and it still holds up super well with so much weight and presence in his voice and line delivery. Considering the 2.0 re-release actually replaced Puppet Master's seiyuu with Yoshiko Sakakibara and how they kept dubbing Sakakibara with Barbara Goodson, i'd imagine she'd be Puppet Master if that were to happen.
The Build Fighters dubs were produced in Hong Kong for Bandai Asia, with broadcasts on Cartoon Network Philippines, Okto in Singapore and potentially some other regional channels in Southeast Asia. They were made because these shows weren't getting North American dubs at the time, as Bandai Entertainment was winding down in the United States. This initiative first started with SD Gundam Brave Battle Warriors in 2011 and continued until Sunrise began dubbing long-form Gundam animation themselves. While they were doing things like Unicorn, it took until IBO in 2016 for them to dub a new TV series. Bandai Asia had model kits to sell. They weren't going to wait around for the North American situation to get figured out. It's highly likely that Medi-Lan worked on a lot more than just the three Gundam shows listed in ANN's encyclopedia. The vast majority of Hong Kong productions don't credit the cast or crew, leaving who made these dubs a total mystery. In 2016, Medi-Lan became BTI Studios Hong Kong and earlier this year got bought by Iyuno Media Group. Nozomi misspoke when talking about Animax being involved with these dubs. That channel has become the internet's shorthand for describing any dub out of SEA, regardless of their actual association with the production. This is further complicated by the fact that there is at least one Gundam dub (ZZ's) that Animax did commission.
Ah so it's sort of like those Bamco games that only get English releases in Southeast Asia but are region free so we can still play them (which I think is the reason why they started doing that in the first place considering Gundam and SRW always had a fanbase here and Kamen Rider has been rising in popularity over here since the 2010s but due to legal reasons they can't release SRW and Kamen Rider games over here, though I'm not entire sure why games like Gundam Beaker 3 weren't released here (I know it can't be the SD support units because of how SD Gundam isn't popular over here (I like parts of SD gundam myself and got a kick out of the reference to SD Gundam Gaiden) because the mobile game also as SD gundams except the parts can actually be used in the gunpla, something I wished they had done in Breaker 3) but still) except they have the rights to release them in the US too.
Nanami's voice sounds ok in my view. I often ROFLOLMAO when I hear Nanami's "Operation Anthy's a weirdo who keeps a snail/garter snake/octopus in her pencil box/drawer/closet"
I'm surprised Cardcaptor Sakura wasn't on this list! I feel like none of the dubs here even come close to that one's level of badness. Older dubs in general are an interesting topic too!
The thing about that is that there are multiple CCS dubs. I think the one you are referring to is the WB aired Nelvana dub; yeah, that one was BAD! And with all due respect to Maggie Blue O'Hara, it was absolutely shameful how they destroyed Tomoyo!! While I do think Nichole Oliver was good for Meiling, I also felt they ruined much of the nuance that came with her character as well.
For me it would be Rave Master. My discovery of the manga in Barnes and Noble as a kid is what got me into manga, and anime, but I could never get into the Rave Master anime dub.
I am down if they can get Yuri Lowanthal, Michelle Ruff, Crispin Freeman, Doug Erholtz, Mona Marshall and Tom Kenny to reprise. Even if the rest of the characters get recasted
I will honestly never get why Higurashi's first dub struggled so awkwardly. There ARE good voice actors in it, the voice director is fluent in both anime and cartoons, so what exactly happened there? Did it try to emulate the Japanese version so much? Yeah, because that's...not a wise idea. Imagine Kanon with an english dub with every girl sounding squeeky and high-pitched.
If I had to guess, the Higurashi dub came out around the time the U.S. anime industry boom was about to collapse, and Geneon at the time was cutting back the budget on English dubs (there was a time they commissioned those awful Odex dubs for a few titles). And sadly, I betcha Geneon didn't give Bang Zoom! enough time nor budget to produce a more polished dub than they usually do.
I definitely think it's failing to understand the source material, because these types of tone shift anime that seem cute but are actually messed up, were historically really badly dubbed, and misunderstood up until Madoka Magica finally got people used to it. Want examples of pre Madoka dubs of these types of shows that suck ass? Sure thing Brigadoon Shadow Star Narutaru Figure 17 Bokurano Key the Metal Idol (debatable, it's nearly passable)
If they ever redub Higurashi with the Gou cast, I would watch it all in a heartbeat. I love that show but I'm not watching Gou dubbed despite being someone who prefers dubs since I don't like to switch languages in the middle of the story if I haven't seen the prior stuff in both languages since that breaks immersion. If I can go back and rewatch the entire show in English (good English), I'd be good with watching the new stuff in either languages.
I'd REALLY love a re-dub of the first Higurashi anime (as well as Kai and Rei), I feel like the Gou va's overall fit their characters pretty well though they have the potential to grow into them.
The one sliver of hope for Higurashi is that Sentai have for a while now been going through the habit of rereleasing anime they previously released sub only with brand new English dubs. I mean they had a complete 64 episode collection of all of the To Love Ru TV seasons only for them to now go back and do seasonal rereleases with dubs (side note I'm very happy to see the first season was successful and they're now dubbing season 2) so there's always the possibility they'll eventually rerelease seasons 1 and 2 separately with new dubs.
Re: Ghost in the Shell. I've actually met and spoken with Les and Mary Claypool, the sound director and ADR script writer of Ghost in the Shell, Innocence, and Stand Alone Complex. I asked her about the loose wire line-- both of us are aware that in the original manga, the Major mentions that she's on her period, and the interference that Batou speaks of hearing is her hormones. She told me that it actually wasn't her call to write the loose wire line. Back in the mid-90's (and early 2000's as evidenced with the same topic being gracefully sidestepped in SAC), apparently some men weren't comfortable with directly mentioning female biological issues. Among the fandom, this has actually been the source of a lot of confusion and debate as to whether the Major is even a female to begin with. A lot of people out there think that she's always been a male from the start and only chose a female chasis because it suited him, but the source material makes it clear.
THANK YOU FOR MENTIONING BUILD FIGHTERS! Earlier this year I started watching Gundam and went through almost the entirety of the main UC timeline shows and movies with their English dubs if they had any, along with G Gundam and IBO. When I got to the original Build Fighters series I decided to watch it dubbed for consistency and no joke, I had to switch it to subbed halfway into episode 1 because I couldn’t bear the inconsistent mic quality and questionable performances. Then I went through the Build series almost entirely subbed (including Try which I never heard the dub for prior to this video) up until Divers and Re:Rise since I knew in advance that those shows were dubbed by Bang Zoom
@@chrisheimva4857 That I’m not sure since even then the Asian English dub for ZZ is lost media and only just clips of it have surfaced and not the whole thing. I’d say most likely even as someone who hasn’t seen the dub clips that have surfaced of ZZ’s old dub. Saying that though, I’d totally be down for another shot of a ZZ dub made by Bang Zoom this time if that’s even possible
@@SonicXeno I wouldn't be opposed to a redub of the UC timeline entries (MBS through Char's Counterattack) in general. I always felt it was a shame the UC entries of the Gundam franchise tended to suffer from a rotating door of voice actors.
Jessica Calvello would totally be onboard with redubbing the second half of Excel Saga if given the chance. It wasn't just Excel Saga that suffered from her losing her voice due to the high demand to get the 2nd season dubbed-- Those Who Hunt Elves also had to recast her character with another actress, and the entire second season has less improvised referential comedy and is more closer to the original script-- Calvello had a lot of pull with delivering lines the way she wants to, and her character is almost completely different just because the jokes don't hit as hard.
I know about this story concerning the 1st voice Actor almost losing her voice. To put my comment in another way. Who today would sign up for voice suicide to voice Excel, Besides either of the original voice actors.
Would definitely like the OG Higurashi to get redubbed. It was the first dub that was a slog for me to get through, sounding and feeling like the characters were just reading their lines offscreen (though the VA for Mion/Shion was pretty good). Angel Beats would be another. The acting for most of the main cast were too forced sounding (Otonashi, Hinata, and Yui), while there were parts where the direction of delivery seemed questionable along with the energy...and giving TK justice lol
You're putting Hajime no Ippo in the list? True story: this was such a big hit in my country (Philippines) and most of my friends watched it since Filipinos have their love of boxing. And hey, Takamura's Filipino dub voice is hilarious yet iconic.
A personal wishful thought of mine is to have a dub where the characters are different ethnicities and speak in their native languages. Most shows just go full Japanese, English, etc., but I remember how in the Ping Pong Animation dub from Funimation, the Chinese characters actually speak Chinese. Just imagine a Code Geass redub (not that the current dub isn’t already great) where characters swap between Japanese and English, while also dabbling in Chinese and Hindi. It would sound more accurate to what the characters are actually saying, and would be a testament to the talent/dedication of the cast.
As someone who primarily consumes anime through dubs and doesn’t mind if they’re a lil bad, as I think 90% are decent, Gundam Build fighters Try was the first dub I actively did not like, the first 5 eps took me outta watching the show and I got used to the voices eventually but for the first 5 eps I really dint like how these kid characters sounded like 20 year olds
Yeah a utena redub would be nice and bring back the original voice actors cause with better direction cause I think the problem with the original dub was that they didn't understand the material but they tried at least.
I'm sure a lot of us would love to beg for the hack dubs to get redubbed but personally speaking I can live with most of them. At the very least the ones that for anime based off of beloved manga, and even then the most wanted changes for those happened already. Sailor Moon and Saint Seiya got the dub casts from their reboots to give the hack-dubbed episodes accurate translations and then did the never dubbed episodes (now if only we could get those goddamn movies and OVAs for Saint Seiya dubbed as well) and of course One Piece has long since been fixed by Funimation with that dub continuing on strong to this day WELL past what 4Kids did.
I don't want to sound disrespectful, but I don't think Kevin Seymour's death will be a factor in whether or not GITS gets a redub. He also worked on shows like Code Geass, which got subsequent Californian dubs after he passed. Granted those were new properties and weren't redubs, but I bet the same would happen for a redub as long as they treat the Seymour dub with respect. It should also be noted that the GITS cast frequently changes (the Arise series had Elizabeth Maxwell as the Major even though Mary Elizabeth McGlynn had a cameo in them), and I doubt previous redubs like Escaflowne contacted the previous dub team (especially since dub teams don't own dubs, the show's creators do).
I've watched all of the Utena dub and I'm always very surprised by how many fans don't like it. I feel like Utena looks like a show from both the seventies and nineties and the dub reflects that. I actually feel like it's clear and crisp and I was immediately interested. Some things can be awkward, but I think it fit the show and feels like it's on purpose.
@@lingeringquestions519 and I’m also glad that VIZ redubbed all of sailor moon with better voice actors and better voice direction because the DIC/Cloverway dub sounded like a cartoon.
yes redub Utena please. Actually as long as we're at it, remake the whole show? A script and concept as good as Utena deserve better animation than what J.C.Staff threw up back in the 90s.
I heard people didn't really like the manga version but I liked it but i think they didn't really like how juri was written in comparison to her anime version and nanimai didn't really appear in the manga beside a cameo on a picture and utena and anthy didn't really have a romance going on either
Cardcaptor Sakura definitely needs a proper dub. The dub that exists is... not great. And I'm not talking about the infamous Cardcaptors dub, I'm talking about the Animax dub where Tomoyo sounds like Ralph Wiggum from The Simpsons. A magical girl franchise as huge as CCS deserves a proper English dub.
Personally, I like the Nelvana Dub for nostalgia reasons, but in terms of a faithful uncut dub, I prefer the Bang Zoom dub the most. Or at least a combination of the 2 dubs. I still can't get used to the Animax dub, since the voice tones range from "meh" to "Oh god, make it stop!"
To say this I love the idea of Hajime no Ippo, but also it has it own generation type of greatness. If we could have most of the old actors in newer seasons especially the main cast I think it would work in a way, although the guy who uses Flicker jabs is great, but in a modern dub his performance might not fit in a serious dub (also ps thank you for telling us about that blue ray sale I would love to get my hands on that I've made around 40- 50 episode in and would love to see this again on using a DVD player.)
A lot of the ones I would like to see redone would be down to translation, censoring, changed music etc. My number one pick would be Digimon Adventure season 1 and have it receive something in the way of the Sailor Moon re-dub. Though, as Digimon is still Ann active franchise marketed to kids, that might be harder to do though the direction they took with Tri's dub gives me hope.
Only thing that worries/upsets me with Ippo is that Discotek will pretty much never dub an anime unless it's a movie. I mean they didn't even bother dubbing the unaired episode 76 and OVA with this upcoming release so I'm honestly kinda hoping they DON'T license the later seasons just because Discotek licensing an anime is almost always a death sentence for a dub
@@Firechick12012 That is very true, but even then that's only a 12 episode show. Discotek said in their livestream where they announced the Ippo release they don't really like to get that involved in dubbing with 12 episodes being the max they would consider it.
@@Firechick12012 oh yeah I know. I’m not gonna knock Discotek. I know their limitations. This is why I hope they aren’t the ones to license later seasons
24:11 Reminds me of Hilda's accent in the English translation of Phantasy Star Online 2. Also Afin's britstralian accent (which everyone keeps thinking is one or the other even though it's a hybrid of both done by a USAmerican) and Kotori's bizarre hybrid of old British and Japanese accents. 24:57 Afin also doesn't share his accent with his sister... Aside from maybe Saga, he and Kotori are also the only ones who sound even remotely British which lead me to think at first that all Newmans in PSO2 had terrible British accents but they don't. Pretty sure Pietro is the only other one with an accent (his sounds French which makes sense and also lets them replace "mai furendo" with "mon ami" too.
I don't know if this is likely but I would love to see a redub of the 1995 film, _Totsuzen! Neko no Kuni Banipal Witt (Catnapped!)._ Currently, the film hasn't been relicensed and released anywhere after Pioneer/Geneon went under and I hardly see anyone talk about this film lately but if the film does get relicensed either by Discotek Media, Netflix, or GKIDS I wouldn't mind seeing a new redub version of this film with a better script and acting, but I would like the Geneon dub to be featured as an extra audio track if Discotek Media or GKIDS license the film.
OH. I actually watched the first few ep of the new Higurashi, though subbed. My friends told me it was really good and refused to say what it was about except to watch it xD
Karin aka Chibi Vampire is an anime I believe was dubbed by Animax, but I thought the quality was pretty good considering the dubs that came from them as a whole. I think it deserves a wider release and a redub wouldn't be a bad idea; it's a cute show that more people should know about.
I thought Karin/Chibi Vampire's dub was... descent, I guess? I can't act like it's great or horrible, but Winner Sinclair's voice just grates on my ears compared to the rest of the cast. Although that might be a win in disguise? They gave an annoying character an annoying voice.
I remember when saiki k reawakened got announced and I was hoping they'd get the original english cast back for the dub then being disappointed when I heard the new va's.
I'd personally love to see a video about bad re-dubs, situations where a subsequent dub is considered inferior by some or many to its original. The one that always comes to mind with me is Akira. Streamline's dub may have been cheesy at points, but it has so much emotion behind it whereas I feel absolutely nothing from the Pioneer dub performances.
The original Dragon Ball desperately needs a redub. Thankfully Z is already covered by the excellent Kai dub. Well, sans the TV specials, and frankly those could desperately use redubs as well. But the only options for OG DB are all censored, badly scripted, and awkwardly acted. Even the "uncut" dub has a censored script with tons of dumb rewrites even in cases where they're not covering up dirty jokes. I think modern Funimation could out out a Kai level redub that finally does the material justice and gives dub fans a faithful experience from the original series through Super. Redubs of GT and the pre-BoG movies would be a nice bonus, but aren't necessary. I also think they should have JYB come in to redub Broly in the Super film for consistency. I'd buy a new BD for that. While I'm opening that can of worms, have Aaron Dismuke redo Ed in both FMA shows and movies. He'd be great in the role IMO. And get Tony Oliver to redo Hikaru in the Macross (not Robotech) dub. I'll drop it on this particular topic, though. The Mobile Suit Gundam Movies are another redub I'd like to see. The old one was so bad it was never rereleased, and instead of doing Seed again I'd prefer we get a good dub of the best UC entry point. I know the TV series already has a dub, but as a fan of the films I'd like a way to show them to people who may not be sub watchers like me. Plus it would be a good way to have a little more consistency between the different seires now they have a new LA based cast. While I never finished the show, Cardcaptor Sakura could also use a redub. The only uncut dub right now is another Southeast Asian production, so while it's not the worst I've heard (I spot checked it in places), I imagine there's room for improvement. Plus, if Funi were to do it they could create consistency by using the Clear Card cast. Probably not likely since it's 70 episodes, though. Again, I'm not really a fan since I haven't watched this one since the edited dub on Kids' WB, but I want it to happen for fans of that show. Yu-Gi-Oh! Is another one. They don't even have to change the cast, just finish the uncut dub 4kids started. Granted, those episodes' scripts were overly literal resulting in awkward reads, so maybe do it from scratch anyway since it was only 9 episodes. But the 4kids cast is actually pretty good; they just needed better scripts and direction that didn't talk down to 5 year olds. I'll admit, though, I'd miss hearing Maddie Blaustein. Sonic X is another show that I'd like to see an uncut redub for, using the current cast. To be honest, I'm coming at this as a Sonic game fan rather than a fan of the show. A redub would convince me to watch X all the way through, though. The 4kids cast never did it for me, particularly Griffith's Sonic, and I'd like to see Smith's take on the Sonic Adventure material. Unless, of course, they surprise me with Drummond, but I try to keep my expectations realistic. I'll even take Thornton's Shadow, even though I think he was miscast in the role. An uncut dub with the original soundtrack would be worth it. Oh, and throw in the Sonic OVA, too. That dub has a goofy charm to it, but I'd rather have a version with voices I know, whether it's Ryan or Roger. Hmm... Anything else... You guys already covered Ghost in the Shell, which I wholeheartedly agree with. Well, I guess I'd like Cagliostro with Tony Oliver's cast, but the David Hayter dub is still pretty solid. I never watched much of TV Lupin, but doing Part I and finishing the Part II dub would be cool, though that doesn't really count as a redub. Find a way to get the rights to do a new Part IV dub mix with the Japanese music? That would be great. And I think that about does it, at least for the stuff off the top of my head. I'm sure others will occur to me eventually. Most of my other redub dreams have already happened, though, like Evangelion (yes, I like VSI over ADV), DBZ (by way of Kai), Saint Seiya, more Funi One Piece. Other series that I'm not a fan of also got the dubs they deserved, like Sailor Moon. I'm happy for them, and I should probably check it out when I'm ready to dive into that series.
I dont have a problem with the Ghost in The Shell Dbu, yeah Mimi Woods sounds robotic, but I bet the director made that way because she is a cyborg. I do think Mimi Woods fits that Motoko better. I really liked Richard Epcars performance in it.
@@dwainsimmons3447 Yeah I can understand that. The stand alone complex Dub did a technically better job and seemed more refined. I still just think the 95 dub ain't to bad.
Geneon was truly the best dubbing company. I cannot see people taking risks licensing something as niche and quite frankly as peak as Zipang and their lupin part 2 dub still has in my opinion the best English cast of any dub ever. Sucks we’re stuck with sentai and funimations bullshit we need a spiritual successor to geneon, discotek almost fits that bill but not quite.
I'm gonna say something a bit controversial: I actually really loved the Geneon Higurashi dub. Also, I will always go to bat for Rebecca Forstadt, who voiced Rika. I have always found her voice cute and she is a great actress, she is also really amazing in Code Geass as Nunnally.
I do generally agree that the old Higurashi dub wasn't amazing, but I really enjoyed it, and I never understood why so many people hate it so much. It's biggest problem is the occasional stilted dialogue in the fun, cute scenes, but even those are done better than a number of really bad dubs out there. And all of the actors do spectacularly in the horror scenes, if you ask me.
For the love of god we need a redub of ALL the main Gundam shows. I mean, fingers crossed we get a re-draw of 0079 sometime, but I *really* hope we get a dub to go with it that fits it. I hate not being able to recommend one of my FAVORITE THINGS to people because it's strictly dub-only. Zeta's is particularly tragic -- something as impactful as the Dekar speech should *not* be presented in such a bored tone.
Me, having personally liked the specific original dub casting of the major and the greenie in Ghost in the Shell (1995): .-. I will take that moment to disagree with you
I was wondering if it would be on the list just because they showed that clip. Kinda glad they didn't pick it apart. There really wasn't anything done wrong with it. I don't think it's a masterpiece, but it was perfectly passable and is still one of my favorite school comedies.
For the final one I was like wait which one is that And then you show a clip with the blue hair mother And I'm like... "OH THAT ONE" If you know you know 😂😂 But yeah nice video Most of them I think they need a dub a better dub or JUST ALL THE SEASONS
Rebecca is my favorite Rika, don't talk smack about her. And Rika is older then your parents. Shiori Alone makes the Utena Dub worth watching, and Pokemon has already given her experience redoing stuff she did before. Most of who I would choose for an utena Recast are LA actors now, I'd like to have Asuna/Sailor Venus as Utena, Kari Wahlgren as Juri, and Aniplex's Shinji Matou as Saionji. I'd actually like Monica Rail as The Major, but getting why would looking at some of her early stuff from Noir and RahXephon. I'd like to hear Castle of Calgiostro redone with the same cast who now does most Lupin Dubs.
The ones I felt need a redub are Ben-To with Ayame Shaga's voice, Clannad with Ryou Fujibashi's, Monster Musume with Miia's, Date A Live with Tohka Yatogami and Origami Tobichi's, Hundred with Emilia Crossford's, How heavy are the Dumbbells you lift? Hibiki Sakura's and Super Hxeros with Momoka Momozono's and Sora Tenkuji's voice since Funimation had been full of shit since.
The only dubs for Japanese Transformers series were the terrible dubs of the Japanese G1 shows like The Headmasters that's basically a joke among Transformers fans, or the almost as bad dubs for the "Unicron Trilogy". I wouldn't mind seeing a complete do-over of all of that.
I just finished the entire Higurashi series last week. I started with the not remake, and watched the 1st episode dubbed, I hated it, so I continued with the sub. After I caught up to the sub for "remake", I learned it's a sequel in disguise, so I went to watch the original. I listened to the dub to that thinking it couldn't be worse than the 2020 dub. I was wrong... Higurashi's dub is my least favourite dub of all time.
I just googled the actors for the 2020 dub and Jesus, I don’t recognize ANY of these people. I won’t say it’s garbage because I haven’t seen it. But I don’t have hopes. How do they mess up twice so badly?
I think we need Sonic x redubbed because for one in an interview, one of the scriptwriters never read the comics or played the games and the result of the dub is not good.
Akira is an influential film in every meaning of the word. The dubbed versions whichever one you choose are not. The more modern version sounds like a typical anime dub, which took me out of the experience watching. They should do another version where the voice-acting feels more real and believable. The other film I saw was the most disturbing war film, "Barefoot Gen". Where it shows the most graphic and saddest death scenes in history. But then I heard the dubbing and it sounds like bad Dragon Ball Z acting! I couldn't take it seriously listening to it!
As bad as the first Higurashi dub was, the actress playing Rika in the new one is somehow worse. Oishi's voice is pretty bad too. It's a shame because the new season is pretty good for a sequel.
Two words: Mai Hime. I only watched the dub once when I got the set for my birthday years ago. After that, I only watched it subbed. That should tell you how bad I think it is.
I was really disappointed with the Madoka Magica dub tbh. My dad loves anime but has a hard time reading subs, so a good dub is crucial when I want to show him a great anime.

I'm hesitant to see a redub because Tom Wyner's performance as Puppet Master is genuinely amazing and it still holds up super well with so much weight and presence in his voice and line delivery. YES. YES. YES. REDUB UTENA.
Utena is an anime the world needs right now. :-D
Utena dub is actually better than the sub.
I'd love an actually decent dub of TRY especially as I adore it and think it's a great series
@@Otaku155 you think that had more than one dub, what about magic knight rayearth?
Honestly, I would kill for a more faithful redub of Yu-Gi-Oh.
It existed for 12 episodes that were produced and 9 release but then 4kids stopped cuz it cut into the profits of the tv version sadly
@@lssjgaming1599 It be cool if we saw those dubs.
Yugioh would honestly be better off remade and then dubbed faithfully.
@@lssjgaming1599 I've heard about them, but never saw any of them, were they good?
Uncensored too, and for Sonic X as well
For me it would be Rave Master.
@@official_nerd4917 nope
I will honestly never get why Higurashi's first dub struggled so awkwardly. There ARE good voice actors in it, the voice director is fluent in both anime and cartoons, so what exactly happened there? Did it try to emulate the Japanese version so much? Yeah, because that's...not a wise idea. Imagine Kanon with an english dub with every girl sounding squeeky and high-pitched.
I heard they didn't really understand the material
Honestly, I don’t think any of the dub voice actors were particularly good.
Sure thing
Brigadoon
Shadow Star Narutaru
Figure 17
Bokurano
Key the Metal Idol (debatable, it's nearly passable)
@@auralunaprettycure I don't think the Figure 17 dub was bad.
I'd love to see the Patlabor TV series and OVAs get re-dubbed, maybe even the three films for the sake of consistency.
That be something.
Me over here wishing for a yugioh redub without the censorship but that isn’t gonna happen...but a person can dream right?
We did get a few episodes. It's sad it didn't continue. It wasn't amazing, the scripts were a bit too literal. But it's a good start.
Yeah unfortunately there was one but it never really took off
Season 0 dub would be awesome.
It doesn’t need a redub
So would you say the Build series dub is worse than the ZZ dub by Animax?
Excel Saga, just to see who would be cased as Excel and see if they could make it through the whole series.
Some of these need to stay the same, just for the hilarity.
Just started, but I wish there was a "anime shown list" since a lot of footage at the start looks really interesting
That intro with nanimami lol
You might like the dub for the Great Pretender
Was meaning to check that out, and now I’m even more intrigued. Thanks for the reference!
Fuck my dad work on the Utena dub. It as a soft spot in my heart for getting me into anime.

The Cartoon Cipher Could you guys do a video talking about underrated English dubs in the future?
Yeah a utena redub would be nice and bring back the original voice actors cause with better direction cause I think the problem with the original dub was that they didn't understand the material but they tried at least.
No
I'm sure a lot of us would love to beg for the hack dubs to get redubbed but personally speaking I can live with most of them.
Correct
I've watched all of the Utena dub and I'm always very surprised by how many fans don't like it. I feel like Utena looks like a show from both the seventies and nineties and the dub reflects that. I actually feel like it's clear and crisp and I was immediately interested. Some things can be awkward, but I think it fit the show and feels like it's on purpose.
It’s still one of the best dubs ever.
@@dwainsimmons3447 I'm glad someone else agrees.
@@lingeringquestions519 it’s mostly a show from the 90s.
The animation may look better, but it wouldn't look anywhere as good without Shichiro Kobayashi as Art Director.
The Utena dub is still better than the sub.
Time to watch some Gunpla!
Yugioh, Utena and Tokyo mew mew are shows i'd love to see redubbed

Cardcaptor Sakura definitely needs a proper dub. The dub that exists is... not great. And I'm not talking about the infamous Cardcaptors dub, I'm talking about the Animax dub where Tomoyo sounds like Ralph Wiggum from The Simpsons. A magical girl franchise as huge as CCS deserves a proper English dub.
The Nelvana dub isn't even bad. People just shit on it because some stuff was edited out. The acting is decent.
@@KhayJayArt what about race master
Don’t forget Dinosaur King, Pokémon, Yugioh
@@dwainsimmons3447 highly doubt we'll get it with something as long as Pokémon though just having it done for the Indigo League would be nice.
@@theshadowdirector some English dubs replaced the anime’s original soundtrack with their own dub soundtrack.
It's hard to issue a death sentence to a dub that's already been dead for over a decade. ;)
@@IMissBionix I meant a death sentence for a potential dub of future seasons but I see what you mean lol

I'll show my age, but the one anime dubbed movie I wish could be redone. Is "Macross: Do You Remember Love?". I know it will most likely never happen.
I don't know if this is likely but I would love to see a redub of the 1995 film, _Totsuzen! Neko no Kuni Banipal Witt (Catnapped!)._
Currently, the film hasn't been relicensed and released anywhere after Pioneer/Geneon went under and I hardly see anyone talk about this film lately but if the film does get relicensed either by Discotek Media, Netflix, or GKIDS I wouldn't mind seeing a new redub version of this film with a better script and acting, but I would like the Geneon dub to be featured as an extra audio track if Discotek Media or GKIDS license the film.
The only dubs from Animax that are acceptable are their dubs of Maid-sama and Ginban Kaleidoscope
I can't act like it's great or horrible,
but Winner Sinclair's voice just grates on my ears compared to the rest of the cast.
Although that might be a win in disguise? They gave an annoying character an annoying voice.
I want a redub of Wakfu season 1 and 2 that uses the season 3 cast
I remember when saiki k reawakened got announced and I was hoping they'd get the original english cast back for the dub then being disappointed when I heard the new va's.
I was a lot more frustrated about the fact that they decided to dub reawakening but left season 2 and 3 undubbed
Is sailor moon one of them
21:11 what episode is this of higurashi????
The Higurashi dub was awful, but I still enjoyed it.
Definitely a redub for og higurashi🙂🙂
But people like the stand alone complex dub better.
@@dwainsimmons3447 Yeah I can understand that. The stand alone complex Dub did a technically better job and seemed more refined. I still just think the 95 dub ain't to bad.
I think all the 4kids shows should be redubbed uncut but with the same cast
Well two of them that were 4Kids dubbed (Tokyo Mew Mew and Shaman King) are getting rebooted so maybe they can have a go at it
Since VSI dubbed Shaman King 2021, I think they should redub the ojama doremi anime.
I would like Watamote to get re dubbed
Yes I agree, please redub both original build fighters and tri. Cause holy shit wow
Hajime no Ippo need a remastered too and a redub
Great 👍🏻 video nice 👍🏻 hype!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Utena’s dub is perfect as it is, so there’s no need of fixing it!!!
Is that... a Darker Than Black OST I hear in the background?

To be fair the sub of og duel master basically just the most generic card game anime. Dub pretty funny in the same way I treat Ghost Stories.
@@jiabryant533 the 4kids dub of Yugioh is the best.
Is Higarashi gou getting new voices for english? I know sub using same old actors
The reboot is using different actors that are regulars at Funimation
I just watched a clip for the 2020 dub and it’s... better? Still really rough, though. :/ Higurashi is cursed much like the curse of oyashiro-sama
OMG Nanami sounded like she should have been in the shit Pokemon dub!
If it’s the TCPI dub, then yes.
The only good thing about the GBF is Reijis voice 😍
I loved when they cry, watched it in dub and yeah it's not that great. I'm just to lazy to read the subtitles. So yeah.
What about Kyatto Ninden Teyandee? I mean Saban didn't even know they were ninjas.
You should talk about the dub change of Saiki K
We did for a bit in our recasting video!
4kids dubs of Pokémon, Yugioh, and Shaman King don’t need redubs.
Utena will never ever get a stupid redub.
Iwm Gwona Have to think of Anwothrr Way to Win at Gundam Battlw
Ghost stories is the has the best dub
It’s dumb, but I want Sonic X redubbed.
Promised Neverland. Get child actors damnit! At least for the super youngins.
