We actually use a lot of arabic words as slang, we use it in the same way an arabic speaker would but because it's not a hebrew word it counts as slang.
@@hibastark2284 yes, but regardless of that Hebrew and Arabic are both Semitic languages so alot of words are similar! Like in Hebrew king is melech and in Arabic Malik, dad is aba in Hebrew and abu in Arabic, yftach/ liftoch, (open), ras/ rosh (head), shams/ shemesh (sun) and alot more. They basically have the same roots
פעם שלישית גלידה זה שיבוש של הביטוי באנגלית ״בפעם השלישית אני אצרח״. מי שתרגם פעם סדרות באנגלית לא ממש ידע אנגלית אז הוא תרגם למה שנשמע לו הדומה ביותר.
Alot of programs especially google docs have issues with having Hebrew and english in the same area. It's because the letters are written different ways.
“Yalla” - it’s “lets go, come on” but also “aw man” like when something strikes out you’ll be like “Ya Alla... “ You say the "Ya" first.. pause a little and then "alla", same word just say it different. you can also say it in different ways haha “Ma Ani Ez” can also be used like this, when for example you friend tells another friends to come with him and leave you out so you can say to him “what about me?? Ma Ani Ez?” Haha “Tachles”- can also mean Truth. Like I say something like that “dude, animal cruelty is so wrong” so you can say “Tachles” like “true that” Or when a friends says something and you wanna tell him he’s actually right you’d say “Tachles, You’re right” “Pa’am shlishit Glida” can be used to say when sometimes has happened more than twice like if I see the same person twice at the same day and then I saw him again I will say that, and it’s like you owe me glida haha ice cream. How come they didn’t put SABABA in here!! Haha
@wownouser actually it does have to do with god. Muslim warriors added the letter Y (or yud) to the name of their god and used it as a battle cry. The meaning is "I swear in God". Then it went on to become a common phrase for engaging people in anything, such as "Yalla let's finish this scene already" :)
Third time ice cream is mostly use when you encounter a person twice by chance. You tell him this and it means that if you see him a third time he’ll have to by you an ice cream 😂
As a Swedish person for me Hebrew sounds like a combination of Arabic and French. Israeli women are hot! I like the blonde ones, but I like the others to 😊
She is beautiful and friendly, here in Brazil the film "Wonder Woman and" Justice League "were very successful, she is also a great actress, joining her beauty with her great performance in the films and her charisma won over Brazilians.
Fun fact: the phrase "pa'am shlishit glida" in hebrew is based on the english phrase "in the third time i'll scream", but the translation for "glida" is ice-cream.
At 1:00, there’s a very similar saying in Tamil. “Kannu Paduradhu”. It’s kinda the same reason you would “Touch” or “Knock on Wood” for. The motions Gal makes are also familiar. One may crack their knuckles against the head to ward the evil eye off. It’s a small world after all folks.
Oh wow... this language is so beautiful. I would love to visit Israel and get to know the culture and languages. I love Gal Gadot so much ♡ Perfect Wonder Woman (in movie and real life too)
The expression "cow, cow" originates in a parable: An old bull and a young bull walk in a field, when they see a herd of cows coming. The young one gets all excited: "let's run over there and mount them all!" But the old bull says "calm down. Cow by cow, we will screw the entire herd."
I heard it said that the young bull anxiously asked the older "how are we going to do this huge job?" to which the older answered calmly "cow cow (one cow at a time...)" so this is like the AA "one day at a time" notion of how to beat addiction.
Para Para - it's not cow cow. many people think it is but it's not. it's in Spanish and literally means slow slow. ולישראלים שאולי קוראים את זה - אכן לא מדובר על פרות באמת, הביטוי מספרדית כמו שכתבתי. הנה למדתם משהו
Interesting! Actually, if you swap the the “l” with the “ch” you get “talches” which means “summarizing” in Arabic, so it has a very similar meaning. I think it’s amazing how languages can have such hidden similarities.
Ikr! I've seen photos of her without makeup, and she looks almost the same! Literally just makes her skin vibrant in colour! Doesn't change anything else
You just can't help smiling watching Gal. Such an amazing person! Love the way she's mixing saying the word in hebrew, translating it directly to english and then explaining the way the word is used to give you an idea of what it "actually" means.
Disagree. I think she's a terrible teacher and I would need lots and lots of tuition. If she's turns to teaching in future I'm learning Hebrew; ironically on the exact same day.
Jewish slang is actually so quirky and hilarious now that I'm hearing someone else trying to explain it...you simply can't explain it without laughing. Btw, Bli A'in Hara "no evil eye" is used by Jews (especially Israelis) when they are talking about themselves or someone compliments them or asks them about something personal. Jews say it to sort of "lure off jealousy" because if someone is jealous of you according to Jewish belief you could lose the right to that possession or whatever personal related thing...for example, someone asks you "oh wow, how many siblings/children do you have?" you'de respond with "chamesh (5) bli a'in hara"
3:00 That is not accurate. This is usually said when someone is neglected. For example if I bring candy to two friends, then the third says - "and what about me? What am I? a goat?" מסכימים?
I really appreciate that she gave us both the literal translation, as well as the practical. It weirdly helped me understand what she was explaining much easier
One of the most fun to watch videos I’ve ever seen! Gal’s personality is a ray of sunshine in an otherwise pretty dark world. Thank you for this, Vanity Fair!
Note to video editor: Hebrew reads right to left. The expression "afa alech/alecha" has the right letters, but in reverse order (not mirror-reversed, the way "ambulance" is written for people to see in their rearview mirrors, but "ecnalubma"). On the iPad, הורס was transliterated incorrectly: "hores" would be closer. (Yes, plenty of Israelis drop their Hs.) Great actress, not a great Hebrew teacher.
“Third time ice cream” is way better than “third time’s a charm.”
It is supposed to be a bet: if this thing will happen not once, not twice but three times, you’ll buy me ice cream
"Third time, ice cream" is meant to mean that the third time an attempt is made, everybody gets ice cream.
lilly imaginator Good to know but I’m still taking it upon myself to alter the English expression to “third time, ice cream.”
sonofblessed thanks but I still like it my way lol

We actually use a lot of arabic words as slang, we use it in the same way an arabic speaker would but because it's not a hebrew word it counts as slang.
@@trigger9285 so cool
@@trigger9285 לא קשור לזה, המילים בעברית וערבית דומות. זה שפות אחיות. כמו שאחי בערבית אומרים אחויה, אבא אבו, מלך מאליק וכו'.. הערבית באה מהעברית
@@MM-fg8gs yea cause we cousins
1:42 they didnt write it right at all
פעם שלישית גלידה is the right one
5:11 they wrote it the opposite way
עף עלייך is the right one (for boys)
yep 100%
לפחות הם ניסו
פעם שלישית גלידה זה שיבוש של הביטוי באנגלית ״בפעם השלישית אני אצרח״. מי שתרגם פעם סדרות באנגלית לא ממש ידע אנגלית אז הוא תרגם למה שנשמע לו הדומה ביותר.
😂
Alot of programs especially google docs have issues with having Hebrew and english in the same area. It's because the letters are written different ways.
Reallyy! It's so similar to arabic...😢 So sad to see a closely related religion fighting....
“Yalla” - it’s “lets go, come on” but also “aw man” like when something strikes out you’ll be like “Ya Alla... “ You say the "Ya" first.. pause a little and then "alla", same word just say it different. you can also say it in different ways haha
“Ma Ani Ez” can also be used like this, when for example you friend tells another friends to come with him and leave you out so you can say to him “what about me?? Ma Ani Ez?” Haha
“Tachles”- can also mean Truth. Like I say something like that “dude, animal cruelty is so wrong” so you can say “Tachles” like “true that”
Or when a friends says something and you wanna tell him he’s actually right you’d say “Tachles, You’re right”
“Pa’am shlishit Glida” can be used to say when sometimes has happened more than twice like if I see the same person twice at the same day and then I saw him again I will say that, and it’s like you owe me glida haha ice cream.
How come they didn’t put SABABA in here!! Haha
But on the board it is written "shlishit ani tsorech" so what give?
@wownouser תודה רבה. אני מדבר רק מעט עברית
Yalla and ya allah are two completely different words with different meanings, and both are arabic words not hebrew
Great additions/comment (although as others noted, Yalla and Ya Alla are not he same).
Just learned me some new foreign words😂
This woman is esh🔥😰
Her accent is ores😩
Afa Alech😭

Third time ice cream is mostly use when you encounter a person twice by chance. You tell him this and it means that if you see him a third time he’ll have to by you an ice cream 😂
How amusingly interesting :)

I only know how to pray in Hebrew thanks to my grandpa, but I love the language and how it sounds ♡

She is beautiful and friendly, here in Brazil the film "Wonder Woman and" Justice League "were very successful, she is also a great actress, joining her beauty with her great performance in the films and her charisma won over Brazilians.

They did not, it’s the right way round. I speak Hebrew fluently.

Fun fact: the phrase "pa'am shlishit glida" in hebrew is based on the english phrase "in the third time i'll scream", but the translation for "glida" is ice-cream.
Lol no one says that in english.
זה לא נכון, לול. מישהו המציא את זה ומשום מה כל הישראלים מאמינים שזה נכון. אין כזה ביטוי באנגלית
It's an urban legend in Israel. Anyone who's done some digging knows that such a phrase has never existed in English.
I love Gal Gadot so much ♡ Perfect Wonder Woman (in movie and real life too)
Trust me it's a great place you would love it
Come visit us when covid is over we want u to come🥰

Come visit sometimes! Its all question of where. It could be really fun or really annoying.

I love her smile. She's adorable.
I want gal gadot to teach me hebrew.
@D n palestine was never a country
@D n this sarcastic?
@D n I just can not tell if you are being sarcastic or not.

Interesting
Spanish with an Argentinean accent!!
Pará, pará
Then it's probably ladino that got incorporated into hebrew slang! Pretty cool!
נשמע מקרי בהחלט
מדהים!
„tachles“ in hebrew has literally the same meaning as the german „tacheles reden“ how awesome is that
Tachles is the Yiddish pronounciation of the Hebrew word תכלית tachlit, meaning purpose, objective. It entered Hebrew as a slang.
@@גבריאלפאלקאו it’s very interesting to hear about the different versions of this word. they basically all have the same meaning
@Cami Mooney likewise in Hebrew
@Cami Mooney in Arabic its ahui
Interesting! Actually, if you swap the the “l” with the “ch” you get “talches” which means “summarizing” in Arabic, so it has a very similar meaning. I think it’s amazing how languages can have such hidden similarities.
I speak Arabic and chaldeen and I understand some words, love To add this language to my brain 🧠

How adorable can this woman be! Out of words! So easy to fall for her! Lucky man her spouse is!
A lot of this slang is very old and no one use it anymore u should put balagan, kapara , kalllll 😂🤣❤️❤️ love you gal u the best.

Doesn't she live in LA now ? I guess her knowledge of Hebrew slang might be a bit out of date.
Yeah I am not sure she should present פרחה slang. No one uses balagan kapara and kal. Never heard a single person ever say that.
Gal Gadot : "Am I a good teacher?"
Me to my phone: YES!!!
I converted to Judaism decades ago and practiced for most of my adult life. I am not observant anymore but I still say Bli Ayin Hara a lot !
😉
Ashkenazim have the added part of spitting three times. I haven't seen anyone actually spit, but people mimic it, like "Tfu, tfu, tfu, bli ayin ha'ra"
@@batyalivni3577 we spit twice actually. The greeks do that at a wedding ceremony

i don't know what's more embarrassing for u the fact ur antisemite or ur trying to copy someone else

That is not accurate. This is usually said when someone is neglected. For example if I bring candy to two friends, then the third says - "and what about me? What am I? a goat?"
מסכימים?
Yeah, I think it's closer to "what am I? Chopped liver?"
4:26 "I hope I'm being a good teacher here", yes you ARE
She’s so funny and gorgeous
I love how she physically acted out the slang. :)
Same :). She kinda did the same in the Vanity Fair video showing off her hula- hoop talent.

Yeah, I saw that, too.
