Series creator David Chase has stated that when HBO first read the script, they objected to Tony's murder of Febby. Executives said that Chase had done so well in building Tony up as a sympathetic character that they believed if Tony committed such a cold-blooded killing, fans would turn on him and the show would lose its protagonist. Chase said that he believed fans would turn on Tony if the character didn't commit murder because the omission would make him appear weak. Thankfully, they listened and this episode changed TV forever. From that point, HBO never tried to change his decisions again.
Apparently those individuals fearful viewers would be alienated from Tony for committing cold blooded murder never saw the HBO series “Oz”. What’s more offensive than the protagonist committing cold blooded murder is poor and inconsistent writing. Even this early into the series, viewers would know Tony letting a snitch slide would not be truthful and consistent with the character. As well as a realistic portrayal of real life mobsters.
This is widely regarded as the most important episode of television ever produced. Because it showed networks that fans would still root for a character that did terrible things......like murdering someone with their bare hands lol
Thx for the shoutout last episode!! And yes you figured out Carmela’s constant moral dilemma... what horrible things can she tolerate for a lot of money & always having new stuff. Look what being the wife of a mobster did for Livia!! Lol
Tony calls the priest "Father Jughead" just after Carmella says that the Ziti is all gone. Jughead is a character in "Archie" comics. Jughead is constantly eating. He is a teenage boy after all ;)
This episode was voted like top 3 Soprano's episodes of all time and it is, it shows Tony as a nice almost normal dad that can change in an instant to psychotic murderer.
2:23 it's fine that he passed may he rest in peace,he left behind a son who is a spitting image of James .his son played James in the movie The Many Saints of Newark 💙💙💙💙 I loved it compared to anyone else 💙
I had to stop watching because these characters are very depressing. Watching this show gave me nothing but anxiety and sadness. Excellent writing, production, casting, scripting, editing, but in the end, what do we learn about ourselves? I would rather read about this...stuff...on Wikipedia. Thank you for your kind attention.
25:24 I don't know if you've ever seen The Godfather, but by the end of this show I always thought Meadow could have turned out like Michael in The Godfather.

Tony calling his mistress before his wife is inappropriate. Carmela had dinner with a man. I didnt see any discomfort when Tony was flinging his girlfriend around on an earlier episode. Everyone wants to hold Carmela to a different standard over nothing essentially.
Very important moment in television, you gotta remember that the sopranos changed the game, before this, all main characters on television were at their worst respectable
Hear here. Rome on HBO and the documentary are well worth watching. The Roman Empire really happened. Did Arty's restaurant really burn down as acts of friendship, protection and altruism?
Cristy, your comments are hilarious. Perhaps it's a woman's intuition, but you seem to quickly work out the male characters. Which makes it even funnier, because most times you are spot on in your assessments. I guess we males are not as smart as we tend to believe. 😂😂
My small issue with this is Febby was actually a smart dude!...he was onto Tony as much as Tony was onto him!....and in their little chess game Febby had him!...could've shot him if not for the interruption, so I felt he mightve put up more of a fight than to just die blubbering and squealing!
What are your thoughts Cristy on Tony hiding the fact that his therapist is a woman? How would you feel if a significant other of yours lied about his therapist being a woman. Would you assume the worst. I think Tony lied about something that didn’t need to be lied about because he is attracted to Dr. Melfi.
It was dumb for him to lie about it, because really nothing has happened with Melfi. I agree I’d be furious if my s/o lied about that, but I’d be even more furious to know that a sleazy priest spent the night and got personal with my s/o. See, Carmela was smart in coming clean because “she had nothing to hide” but she actually did. However Tony really had nothing to hide.
@@CristyReacts What was going on between Carmella and the priest was beyond uncomfortable. And you end your video with “I want to see more of that!” 😆 But I think the reason Tony lied about his therapist being a woman, is because in the back of his mind, believes he can and probably will, sleep with her.
Re: the priest - It felt a little inappropriate to you 'cause he's a dick. But he'll get hit with a truth-bomb down the line. Oh, and mealy-mouthed means wishy-washy, weak, infirm.
My alma mater even used the starting song back in the day: ruclips.net/video/oXiu8Cf0FRM/видео.html ( i loved it because i had just started watching the show). Since you didn't go to NSCU it won't seem as cool to you but sopranos wa shuge back then.
Not a fan of fig newtons.. WHAT!! unsub 😂😂.. And what's the matter with father Phil showing a little love and affection for some of the congregation.. even if the communion has underlying tones of sexuality.. 😂😂.. I don't know why that would make you so uncomfortable 😂 kidding aside.. enjoyed the reaction, looking forward to the next!! 😄

Not sure why tv executives always seem to think they know better than the writers.
I saw somewhere that Chase realized he was making Tony too nice and needed to inject some harsh reality about what kind of person he was.
This is widely regarded as the most important episode of television ever produced. Because it showed networks that fans would still root for a character that did terrible things......like murdering someone with their bare hands lol
Damn, add me to the list. Because I don’t like Tony any less. If anything, I’m impressed he would get his hands dirty.
You better finish this whole series, Cristy! I just subscribed

This was David Chase's first reminder that deep down, these lovable gangsters are truly despicable.
This episode changed TV history. The protagonist murdered a man in cold blood and we still like him. That's insane.
Not sure if you noticed. Same actor who plays Junior, is Johnny Ola in The Godfather.
This episode was voted like top 3 Soprano's episodes of all time and it is, it shows Tony as a nice almost normal dad that can change in an instant to psychotic murderer.

Great content & insight again. Thank you
The Sopranos is the only Series I know of that got better and better every year! Im new to the channel, thanks for reacting to this legendary series!
Welcome aboard! Looking forward to discovering the rest!
It’s one of three shows imo (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and The Sopranos constantly got better and more ambitious during their later seasons)
