Antique Alarm Bell Restoration. Making a Copper Bell.

- This vintage burglar alarm has been in use for over 50 years. And all these years it worked properly until it lost its relevance. And for several years of inactivity, the contacts oxidized and the mechanisms rusted.
Recovery process:
The alarm bell was in a very bad condition. The chrome plating has already peeled off and the metal has begun to rust. I polished the surface of the bell with a grinder. But you can not leave the surface unprotected, otherwise the socket will rust very quickly. I decided to cover the surface of the bell with copper. This will give a noble look, as well as protect the surface from rust.
Copper plating at home.
The first step is to thoroughly degrease the surface. For this I used caustic alkali.
After degreasing the surface, it is necessary to immerse the workpiece in sulfuric acid (electrolyte for batteries) for several minutes. The acid will remove all oxides from the surface.
Then we lower the part into a solution of copper sulfate, water and sulfuric acid. After several “up and down” cycles, a strong copper coating forms on the surface, which cannot be removed even with a brass brush!
Then I cleaned all the contacts from rust, painted the case and assembled the alarm in reverse order.
Now this device looks good on the facade of my workshop, and also perfectly drives away crows from my garden)))
I liked the result of my work, I hope you will like it too.
I will be grateful for your likes and comments!

I like the fact that you work without talking..Your work speaks for itself...
This looks like an alarm we have in a glass case at our firehouse, along with a uniform from 1910... some old axes and Halligans... thanks for saving a bit of history, again.
I have deep respect for your profession. Thank you!
Can you please tell me what "Halligans" is?
@@ITBR_Restoration her. Sorry. Typo... Halligan is a firefighter tool like a crowbar with a spike on the end
That black hammered paint with the white and red accents really refresh the look of the thing. Nice to see it back in action.
Thanks for the support! I love the color combination too!
Wat can I say really..... Another piece of history restored and saved for many more years and generations to view. Amazing work yet again 👍🏻
Thanks for support. This thing is not very old yet, it is about 60 years old, but I am already preparing a fairly ancient project.
@@ITBR_Restoration well I look forward to watching your next project 👍🏻
Splendid job restoring that antique alarm bell to working order. It looks much better, too Great work.
That’s a cool old alarm. Great job on the restoration.
An interesting combination of a bell & horn loaded sounder ~ looks like it originally had 2 wires from it = with the option for 2 alarm sounds ~ for example; in the case of a school the bell for periods and sounder for fire alarm.
I clicked Like and I like your project so far. 👍
Big Alarm bell. Nice video
wow! Thanks for support!
Cool restoration on the alarm bell.
Thanks!!!
Beautiful Restoration
👍👍
I like your stuff.
Very Nice! I really like the contrast of the hammered paint with the white and red. That color combination really suits that bell alarm
Thanks for the support! I also liked the combination of colors.
Love those screws that were painted by an inspector/assembler!
this was awesome to watch..
🤘🤘🤘😁
Good Lord! Loosen some bolts, clean, repaint!
Very cool, well done.😊
Thanks for support!👍
I think I need one of these bells to hook up to my alarm clock. :) Never seen that process of copper plating before. Very interesting. I LOVE hammered paint. I would paint my house with it if my wife would let me. :)
. I found the characteristics of this alarm: Volume at a distance of 1 m - 92 dB. This is almost the same as a professional jackhammer.
@@ITBR_Restoration that sounds about right for getting me up in the morning😁
Very cool channel 😎 👍 👌
nice work bro, i really enjoy watching your videos.
Thanks for support! Posting a new video today! Hope you like it as well!
Bela peça.
Parabéns
I am a retired Indian electricity worker. I have seen exactly the same type of alarm bell in a thermal power station coal handling plant. The environment there is very very noisy. Workers at this plant talk less and depend on sign language because of the tremendously noisy environment. In 1980s I have seen exactly this type of alarm bell with every telephone as a ringer because nobody can hear the sweet ringing of normal telephone. It may be Made in USSR or Sweedish ASEA . It works on 120 Volts 17 Hz a.c. from telephone exchange. I am sure, they looked exactly the same. Loved the restoration video very much. Love and Respect from Kolkata, India.
Hello India!
Thanks for your story. I was interested to hear this.
Excelente trabalho camarada. 👏👏👏🇧🇷

Just like you, I saw this thing for the first time)))
Thanks for subscribing!!!
Good very good 🌹🍀🌹👏👏
I do most enjoy antique audio devices like these. These are the things I look for in a restoration. Thanks!
Btw, does it really sound this peaceful where you do this work? Amazing.
I also like various vintage things, I also like old metal toys. If only I could find one of them....
I’m not sure what’s stranger. The buzzer and bell combo or the bell not being dome shape

Perfeito 👏👏

good job 😍👏🏻🇸🇦🇸🇦🇸🇦🇸🇦
Thanks 🙏🏻
I don't know what blue vitriol is, but that is the most awesome shade of blue I've seen!!
Copper sulphate (blue vitriol) is mainly used in crop production, as an antiseptic, as a protection against mold.
And you're damn right about the shade of blue! He's great!
@@ITBR_Restoration it would have been better to electroplate the copper in instead of single displacement reaction. The copper in the bell and hammer are only a few atoms thick. Electroplating would have given a shinier, more durable copper layer.
@@xenoxaos1 First copper plating, then nickel or cromium plating will last longer.
Mind blown at 9:20

Good restoration, I would just like to know what model and brand it is😮😲😍🤩🤔😅💖👍⁉️
Can I plated copper with this technique my brass Zippo Lighter?
Non-ferrous metal is covered much worse. You will need to use a small electrical voltage.
@@ITBR_Restoration thank you for reply too.
😊
Hi just would like to know I watch your channel and see things being restored do you sell them to collectors or keep them
Hello. Most things stay with me.
Neat! What is the purpose of painting the inside screws red if they are never seen?
Thank you! I don't know why the screws were painted red. Maybe it's factory seals.
It's to be able to tell if they've loosened with a quick visual inspection instead of having to check the torque of each screw manually.
They will not loosen with vibration.
@@linux4samir you're thinking about threadlock. These were painted across the heads and onto the housing. This is done for tamper evident screw marking as well as quick spot check for loosening.
Der rote Lack dient der Schraubensicherung gegen unbeabsichtigtes Lösen derselben.
,👍👍👍
What's the point of the center bugle type opening? Odd
Also, Can you coat the bell more times using this method? To like "Build up" a layer, or is it just like one and done, since it can't reach the base layer anymore.
Oh and good job 👍
That funnel-looking part is a klaxon alarm. The coils inside strike a flexible diaphragm which rings like a buzzer, and the horn amplifies the result. This box is actually a dual alarm; buzzer and bell.
@@vrghr Genauso ist es.
Seems like the bell and the buzzer can be activated separately...
think nickel plate the bell and hammer would been better,
Abo
The two tones is for people who are tone deaf. Ones supposed to make a awooga sort of sould while ringing. I bought a similar one at a flea market but it only worked once before a shower of sparks
You're brave to remove that nest...I would have grabbed some lighter fluid and torched it....Burn Baby Burn! 🔥 🔥 🔥 🕷 🔥 🔥 🔥
))) I did not dare to take this step. A large audience will see, and suddenly Greenpeace will see)
@@ITBR_Restoration Ha Ha Ha !

I like spiders, they are wonderful creatures. Humans are much more dangerous and lethal.
You are right about people. Man is the most dangerous predator on the planet.
The screws are not being painted for aestethic reasons.
Tolong dong betulkan keris..
Maaf, keris apa yang kita bincangkan?
For sale🤔😅👍⁉️
Too much unscrewing screws and not enough of the actual work needed to fix it up.
