Extremely Beautiful and Rare Lighter with a Unique Carving - Restoration

- Hello everybody!🖐 The Restorer is with you again.😎
I want to share with you my complete restoration of an extremely beautiful, antique and rare gasoline lighter 🔥. I purchased this unique lighter at auction in very poor condition, damaged and rusted. The surface of the lighter has a very beautiful carving, which may symbolize something. I would guess that this antique lighter is over 100 years old. The true origin and its history are still unknown to me, if you know something about this find, please write in the comments! I will be very grateful! The lighter itself is made of brass, lead and metal. During the restoration, I tried to preserve its uniqueness and ancient value. I hope I succeeded. I hope you liked the result!
Also, do not forget to rate my work in the comments from 1 to 10.😉

Wahoo, c'est un mixte, molette + allumette éternelle. Je collectionne les briquets anciens depuis 25 ans, je n'en avais jamais vu " pour de vrai ". 🥰😁😉
10/10 look as good as new! 👍👍👍
p/s : 50yrs old man here ...if you wondering why the full mark .. i happen to know what it was ... even had the opportunity to use one for quite some time when i was much younger ✌️✌️

This is so satisfying and relaxing to watch. Beautiful work.
Thank you😉👍💚
In case you dont know, the tube on the side with the ball and hook is for a "rope lighter". a length of braided natural fibre rope is inserted through the tube, with the excess tied up in a knot below. the hook on the little ball is stuck through the rope partially down and the end is charred. When youre in a windy area or somewhere where a full flame might draw sniper fire, you would pull the rope up, and strike a spark onto the charred end to start it smoldering and light your cigarette or whatever else, then pull down on the rope when youre done, making the ball seal the top of the tube and thus smothering it. If you look for rope lighters, you could probably find the kind of rope meant to go in there and you could truly consider this a 100% restoration of the functions.
Fascinating little piece of information! I was wondering what the little side tube was for!
@@davesmith5656 If youve ever heard the old superstition "three (cigarettes) to a match is bad luck" its related to this lighter's popularity. the time for a match to be lit long enough for three people to light a cigarette off of was enough time for a good sniper to zero in on the light at night and take a shot. a rope lighter isnt nearly as bright since its an ember not a flame and thus rope lighters became popular amongst soldiers in ww1
Emily you scratched me right where I itched. Thanks.
Interesting. Where did you get this information from?
@@TheRestorer ive collected and studied lighters and fire making technology for years, and actually have a few of those old rope lighters in my collection, most are simple tubes for rope with a flint on the side but a couple are ones added onto fuel burning lighters
My Grandpa had a lighter like that, but it was just round. Did not have the carvings on it. He said he got it in the military when he was about 18 or 19. My guess, that lighter is about 100 years old, plus or minus 5 or 10 year. Beautiful work. 10+.👍😎.
Absolutely right! I am 74 years old and I have one like that without the carving on it. Mine still in very good condition and like you mentioned, its about 75 to 100 years old. The restoration work is 10. Thank you.
Cool!) Thank you very much!)
👍😎💚
My parents have one too. I saw one being sold in a war movie about some Berbers who enlisted to fight the Germans in France later in WWII. The lighter obviously was of German origine, also military use. The one my parents have, probably is a forgotten one by a soldier who had his quarters at my grandparent's during the occupation in 40-45...
what a beauty, well done.. You know whoever lost this lighter cried. Thank you for restoring❤
This guy DOES NOT RESTORE ANYTHING... HE TAKES A CLEAN ITEM AND COOKS SUGAR AND DIRT ONTO IT, HE DOESNT EVEN HAVE TO CLEAN IT BECAUSE HE JUST SHIWS WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE. EFOR HE COVERED IT IN FAKE RUST.. ALL HIS ITEMS ARE BRASS.. BRASS DOESNT RUST!
I love the drama, I give a 10...lost craftsmanship, onlyna few possess it...great video...
Thank you very much👍😉

Te doy un 10.
Es una restauración bellísima al igual que el encendedor.
Esta belleza debe exhibirse igual como hacen en los museos.
Bendiciones y paz.
Muchas gracias por la alta calificación de mi trabajo💚
By adding soda to the vinegar you just neutralized the acid which actually does the cleaning...
Thanks
It’s more of the chemical reaction that does the cleaning.
Ohhh wow.. I suscribe right now
Thank you very much!)😉💚
Дуже гарна робота. Золоті руки у майстра!
Thank you!)👍💚
Truly amazing to see how much you can do with just a rotary tool. How do you prevent lighter fluid from leaking out from the bottom? The cap doesn't seem very air/water tight
Thank you! It is airtight
Nice work!!! //Lars
Thanks!👍😉💚
@@TheRestorer You´re welcome!!//Lars
Reminds me of the old-timey fire extinguisher!
Good video; the best: no jingle, no bagpipe.
Thank you very much!)😉💚
Super workmanship !!. Commentary would be helpful. eg.: 1. what was the solution in the plastic bottle and 2. The white powder ?
Where do I add my rating?
Thank you! 😉
Just write it in the comments!) But you already wrote it!) Therefore, thank you very much!)

10 of 10 for me , it;s beautiful
💚😉
Definitely a 10
Thank you very much💚
You may want to add an o-ring gasket to the bottom cap, as the fluid will seep out without it.
Other than that, great restore!
Thank you! 😉💚
There is very good carving. Gasoline will not leak
There are many things to criticize or critique but who wants to hear an keyboard warrior ramble on with their own version of "doing it right" when they haven't touched a tool in their life.
Great job my guy!!
Hahaha) Thank you very much)😉💚
good job
Thank you very much💚
I wonder where you find all that stuff to restore. Amazing job.
Sometimes I buy at auctions, sometimes I buy from people, sometimes I find) Thanks for the comment!)
The restoration was fine, it just seems like you're more interested in your skills as a video editor
Haha) one does not work without the other)

It gets a bit tedious.

Thanks!👍😉
Se necesita mucho conocimiento para hacer algo así. Buen trabajo
¡Muchísimas gracias!)
I was trying to read the name of the metal polish you used here. Would you mind sharing? It would also be nice if you would identify products you use in your restoration videos in the opening notes. Thanks so much! I really love watching you work on these! I'd definitely give it a 10!
Thank you very much!) This is a polish for metal and chrome surfaces.
@@TheRestorer we know it is a metal polish, the question was who makes it, and please list the products used in these projects as stuff like this inspires people to restore stuff thanks
Autosol is an excellent metal and chrome polish.
A well done restoration mate. Considering what you started with, the end result is magnificent.
One problem with listing brands is locality. Where The Restorer lives may not have the same brand of items as where the commenters live. Aluminum polish is available at most hardware stores in the USA. It is kept near the cleaning chemicals. Vinegar is used as well as baking soda to remove rust in the jar. W-D 40 is in an aerosol can.
Definitely a 10!!!
Thank you!😉💚
I'm really glad you kept original parts, some might not have. I thought you did a great job, so from me an 8. You'll only get better!
Thank you for the high rating!) Thank you very much for rating my work!)
why wear gloves if they are ripped? It defeats the purpose of gloves. A no for me for this presentation....

Great job with the lighter. But your scissors need sharpening so badly you could make a restoration video on those! (Joking, but they are dull.) Nice lighter. I wonder where you found it!
Haha) Thank you! Let's sharpen the scissors!)

8 for me. I thought it was a lovely job from a very damaged beginning to a working beautiful end. I too was wondering about a gasket of some sort to prevent fuel leaking, (having had one or two leaks in my pocket over the years 'I can testify to it's unpleasantness). Well done I look forward to watching more of your finds.
Thank you very much!) New videos coming soon!
Beautiful restotation🎃
Thanks👍😉
A 10+ from me
Thank you very much!)
I think it needed more of a delicate touch. I wouldn't have used the cylinder of sandpaper on the power tool.
Thanks for the advice
