Love your channel! So happy I found it. Your positivity is contagious! New to cycling, as a female rider, it gives me more confidence to get out and ride! Thank you!
Well done, done it a few times myself and ride around there regularly. Its a wonderful area for cycling on and off road. There's a brilliant gravel track on the old Rosedale ironstone railway across the moors and you were very near another arguably harder road climb we call The Glaisdale Horror. You should enter the Struggle Moors Sportive next year, its on a par with the Fred Whitton.
If you’re ever in the yorkshire moors again, blakey bank from church houses is a tough one, and climbing out of grosmont going south up to the a169 gets above 30% as well. Really enjoyed the video, great effort! 👏👏
Did a 118k around that area yesterday, was awesome. My mate took me around his neck of the woods and showed me some of the less monstrous climbs but they were still a great challenge. 2100mtrs climbing all in, enjoyed it very much. Did the coast with Sands End, Saltburn, Went down into and back out of Runswick bay, and Whitby. Took the moor road after that, stopped at the cycle hub and then back into Middlesbrough over some of the greatest terrain I have ever ridden on. Chimney bank was mentioned, but we'll do that another day. Now I have the info. to give it a go. Only got 2 thirds up out of Runswick, I was seated. Newbie error. Wheelying and it put me off. I'll get up out of the saddle next time. Really steep stuff is it's own thing. Like you say, you just gotta do it to get it. I'm up for the challenge and I'll get them beat. Oh, and yes, when you have done 17 percent climbs like on this route, a 10 percent seems tame by comparison. A lot of this stuff is in the head.
When I first started riding I would avoid hills since I've been watching your channel I look for them nobody can believe it my family tells me I'm nuts or I'm out of my mind . Thanks once again from the other side of the pond always an awesome video
Rode this segment as a part of Struggle Event in 2019. 52/36 - 11-28 was just brutal. Struggled to stay on the bike.Next time at least I need 34-50. Great effort Katie.
I would love to cycle up that hill. Living at the foot of the Sierra Nevada foothills in the Central Valley of California I have many options to climb but few are this steep (33%???). I'm just a retired marathoner who now cycles (and jogs) but as I get older, cycling has become my true passion. Great job Katie (& Richard)!
Katie The Bike climbing Queen well done keep up the Good work, I wonder if you have done the Tarka Trail it's not a hill but extremely looong though lol but I hear it does have a few inclines maybe a bit too easy for you that one lol!!
My suggestion for a climb would be Monks Road, from Charlesworth towards Hayfield, unfortunately I think it's just outside the Greater Manchester boundary so off limits for now. Another hill I like is Werneth Low near Hyde, from any direction, Joel Lane from Gee Cross side is short but tough. Best of luck and keep making these great videos.
Great effort, little squeak when you know you've got over the worst bit. I do love these vids, the views are fantastic, was mountain biking up over the moors few years back. Plus there's Dalby forest for your future mountain biking😁.
there is an equally hard climb Crowcombe in the quantocks I ride a few times a year, just as you get to the top there is a bend and then a cattle grid usually wet with leaves as well, so you have find a bit extra to speed up over it but oddly still enjoy it everytime !
Super strong effort - all being well I’ll be riding this climb for the first time on the weekend. Good to have some idea of what it’s going to be like - eek
Well done there Katie nicely riden. I've bad memories of being dupt in to that on 42t chainring - 25t cassette in the middle of a 60 miles ride by so called racing friends a number of years ago, but a nice ride.
Your welcome Katie , The bigger the Gradient the happier you are Katie I’ve notice 😉, you love giving yourself a challenge, I never get bored of cycling that’s why I love it so much plan a route on Komoot get on your bike and enjoy a different ride every time you can’t beat it 👍🏼
Always well worth a watch especially with the power data.....No wonder you use an MTB cassette and a 34t inner ring.... Anyway, what's going on about you doing more mountain biking ???? I'm intrigued.......being an off-roader myself........Hmmm ?
Fantastic effort Katie well done , you make it look more possible for others . I would highly recommend for next year if possible to go try out The Cowlyd in wales please that would be fab 🚴🏻♀️👌
Another great video 👍 Dog House Lane in Todmorden is definitely worth a try - not too far out of Manchester and there's plenty other great climbs to go at in that neck of the woods
Nice one congrats 😀👍👏👏, epic climb, the scenery looks amazing, keep doing what your doing your videos inspire me to keep motivated in terms of my cycling training during lockdown, onwards and upwards Katie, onwards and upwards 😀👍
For Greater Manchester climbs, look at Cowlishaw Road, and/or any of the routes to Werneth Low. Cowlishaw Road is in the Climbs of the North West, and featured Stage 8 Tour of Britain 2019.
I've not had clips very long and the hill I ride up is now covered in acorns and hedge clippings and the rear wheel spun and caused me to stall! I only just got my foot down in time but it was an awful feeling!
Katie great ride that well done. Will you be doing a vid soon showing how to negotiate coming back down one of these awesome climbs with a few pointers on how and what not to do? Peter
Re local lockdown climbs.... have you tried The Wizard at Alderley Edge? It's about a mile long, easy to find from the town centre, has featured in the Tour of Britain. Bomb back down it at a million mph once you get to the top!
Great seeing it again you did really well in that, the bend got me a car came down so pushed me on the steep side my excuse anyway. Your right it is a lovely view i did it in a lovely hot day in the summer great it was.
I'd like to see you do Norwood edge, think it's in the book.. I've done it a few times as it's near my in-laws house. Lovely area, near otley in Yorkshire
Katie, have you ever done the Robin Hoods Bay climb? from sea level, up through Fylingthorpe and up to Brow Top... Id love to see a video on that climb....
I was staying in Keldy a few years ago and decided to take a look - and promptly turned back! You need to be super fit with a great set of lungs, have a super light bike and weigh less than a Pot Noodle - I fail on all counts 😂 Well done for doing it - that's hard-core cycling.
There used to be a 200k audax in this area.It sent you up Rosedale after 100 miles of riding.Chainrings were 52/42 then and I borrowed a screw on block with a 28 top.It half killed me but I made it.
Great climb and how about the Yorkshire scenery ... brilliant!! Thanks for another excellent video. I hope to purchase an Elite Suito smart trainer next month ... perhaps this will help improve my fitness over the winter so I can tackle some hills next year.
Awesome. I did a very short climb at a similar incline and honestly felt like I was going to fall off the back of the bike due to gravity - like riding up a vertical wall. Walked it the rest of the way. SLOWLY 😆 Do you ever have that I’m-gonna-tip-over-backwards feeling when it’s super steep?
Hi Katie, I have a Specialized Allez and the small chainring is 34 but I find it impossible to get up the steeper climbs (I ride around Biggin Hill) if I changed it to a 28T or 30T would that make a big difference? Thanks
Hardknott is much more difficult, when I cycled I trained up there, dropping to Hutton le hole then up to the lion at blakey ridge, Rosedale is only steep after the cattle grid around the two hairpins and a short straight part. If you ever get the chance, it would be great to see you on the bealach na bah, from Loch Kishorn to Applecross, 5 miles long from sea level to over 2000ft, I remember it was a drag but it gets really tough for about the last 2 miles 25% give it a go! 👍
Another great effort. Even in my best (younger) days I would not have been able to make that effort. I'd of been pulled over to the side with your other friend that had to give up!
That lovely feeling when the hardest part is over and you know you've beaten it :). I've never done this climb or Hardknott but on paper Hardknott is harder. Similar average gradient and similar maximum gradient but it's a fair bit longer.
Almost 400 watts on the steep section is fantastic. You are a true mountain goat! Do you like the descents also. For me, it’s the payoff for the climbing. Cheers!
Thank you, I bought the same grx version this week. Just rode once but unknowingly I pedalling harder on left leg 😂 Hope that’s just my mindset and it goes away as I ride more

I got to find me some hills.
Wow, never done Rosedale even though I live about an hour from it. Respect and welldone Katie! would be nice to see heart rate data overlay too!

I know of runners that want to get into cycling. Lower back pain gets them. So bad they stop cycling.
Glad you enjoy being in the saddle!

2:24 If a climb is tough, do a steeper one and then the flatter one will seem easy in comparison. That's good advice.
Katie, have you ever done the Robin Hoods Bay climb? from sea level, up through Fylingthorpe and up to Brow Top... Id love to see a video on that climb....
Nahh I don’t think so, sounds bloody epic!!
Great vid Katie, beautiful back drop, gotta do this one some time.

Oh, I don't know just why, she simply caught my eye
