There’s a great storyline there about Bond being abandoned by his government and left to rot for so long. It sets up a great conflict between him and M that could have taken the character into a much deeper and introspective direction before Craig’s time. But then the movie instantly forgets about that and focuses on the real story; Ice Hotels, Sun lasers, and Koreans in white face
Yup, The opening sequence is good and the initial set up is interesting (even if it's similar to one of the Dalton movies) but then he goes to Hawaii and well, that's the end of the good stuff. The rest is just madness ;p
He did return with his voice and likeness in 007 Everything Or Nothing, which in my opinion is one of the absolute best movie licensed games ever made.
Yes, especially since if not for his contractual obligations to the TV series Remington Steele, he would've been cast as Bond 8 years earlier instead of Timothy Dalton.
I think he was possibly robbed of a cheesy quip in that first scene like "Surf's Up!". Or if possible one of the local friendly forces giving a "Jambo" hand gesture.
Judy Dench has the best "villain face" man, she scowls so bad I am scared of her. She must be tough, she pushes her way into every scene when she should be at her desk.
Tomorrow Never Dies probably has the most relevant villain, just in terms of a media/tech mogul who thinks he's god. It is the 2nd best Brosnan in my opinion.
I think the concept of that movie was far ahead of its time. a villain using media to manipulate citizens. sadly apart from its main theme the movie never got anything else right. What could have been a smart intelligent thought provoking thriller on media and its ill influence turns into a routine action movie. It seems the makers were quite focused on getting the chemistry between Michelle Yeoh and Bond and to showcase the martial arts skills of her. Obviously the movie came at a time when Chinese audience was getting to be really important for Hollywood and the hence the makers wanted to ensure they made that appeal.
They went from a movie whose climax had two women fencing and Bond fighting a mech in an airplane flying around a space lazer; to a bunch of people sitting around playing cards. Casio Royal is a good movie sure but I loved this movie, and Casino Royal doesn't have the women or the gadgets or a super villain with a plan to take over the world.
I don't find 'Tomorrow Never Dies' as boring, even with the exposition-full script. Probably because I'm biased as that was the first Bond film I've ever seen.
That one was excellent I felt! First off, Michelle Yeoh being the best action driven Bond girl. Then you got Jonathon Price channeling an older school villain with that modern flair. That remote control BMW, the stealth ship, I can go on haha.

I have to say - I have a totally different opinion on 'Tomorrow never dies' - I found it interesting and very clever how they played with the classic bad guy trying to gain 'world domination' - he even uses this line in his monologue, with a cool take on it. Michelle Yeoh is always a win - and the motorcycle escaping the helicopter was an iconic scene.
I didnt like the action scenes in that one, they feel very staged and artificial The helicopter one is just ridiculous, but i still prefer that to the ending lol
I always loved Tomorrow Never Dies, one of my childhood favourites. Me and my dad loved Elliott Carver as a villain, some of his dialogue and the actor's take on his persona is just fantastic! Parts of the movie and the story were a bit mediocre, and the scenes with the stealth boat weren't always that exciting, HOWEVER I always loved two of the earlier action scenes; one being the car chase when Bond is in the backseat, driving it himself... and the other being the iconic motorbike chase in Ho Chi Minh, I absolutely loved that when I was younger! Silliness aside in all the rest of the movie, this movie's torture montage at the beginning is the most legit thing Bond has run into in any of the movies i've happened to have seen. I mean in the more recent and lauded Casino Royale the whole bottomless wicker chair nut whacking would hurt (I'm a guy, I get it) but to my eyes that scene looked more like Jackass than Syriana. In this film I actually felt bad for Bond at that point.
Chris' idea of Bond getting tortured by Madonna music had me rolling. 😂 But seriously, the idea of Bond getting tortured was a nice one. Too bad they don't actually explore what that means to him here. It's just back to business as usual.
The torture scene in Casino Royal was a low point in the film for me, despite it being one of my favorite movies of all time. It just seemed so over-cooked in terms of torture. Maybe I'm missing something, and this is a real type fo torture that really gets results, but there are so many more obvious ways of torture that don't get into weird sexual areas. I think they were going for some sort of meaning in attacking James Bond's penis, which is supposed to be of such importance to him and the world. But... seriously. As a straight man, I'm not going anywhere near another man's penis for any reason. Pull the guys fingernails or something. He keeps his pants on and it's likely much more effective.
@@JazGalaxy It was taking directly from the Fleming novel and had the Bond worrying if he still could perform in bed lol. His Mojo was restored by Vesper Lynd only to having him wishing her death at the end after he was portrayed of course.
@@keyaamabrahams7984 really? That was from the novel? Interesting. But yeah still weird. Stripping someone naked before torturing him in the balls is a bit too gay BDSM for me
This is one of the weirdest movies ever, in that there is so much "futuristic" crap thrown in, that I forgot half of it and the bits I remember feel like they must be a fever dream I had, even when Chris shows me clips, I'm thinking did that actually happen.
I loved this movie when it came out. I was a kid at the time and this is basically a cartoon movie in live action! It's hilarious and ridiculous in retrospect.
Squirrel Just like Moonraker I’m 79’, although it was considered successful, and more films came right away, but the zaniness is similar. As a kid these were just fun action/adventure flicks, with no reality needed.
I think another weird James Bond movie is A View to A Kill. But you have to watch it a few times for it to grow on you and I always enjoy Roger Moore charm. He 57 years old in this movie and still put s on a good performance👍
6:32 - It's called a fictional surgical procedure, kind of like how they turned John Travolta into Nicolas Cage and then Nicolas Cage into John Travolta.
This Bond movie will always have a special place in my heart- it was the first Bond movie I saw in theaters. One thing I always wonder if the female roles were reversed, have Rosamund Pike be the Bond girl and Hallie Berry be the femme fatale.
I love this movie. It was my first bond film as a kid and I even watched it again the other day and it’s just so goofy and nostalgic to me that I can’t help but have fun watching it.
This is LITERALLY the FIRST James Bond film I EVER watched. My sister worked at the theater and got me in for free. Even as a child, I was like "THIS IS TERRIBLE".
I actually liked the gene therapy aspect of the story, and how it added a twist for the main villans at the end too. That sorta thing's actually pretty unique in movies, let alone Bond movies. I really wish there was more done with it though, cus it's only relevant throughout parts of the movie and isn't brought up much, even if the ending did a lot with that theme. Also I gotta say, when General Moon saw that his son became Graves through DNA manipulation, and realized he had lost his son not only physically, but also ideologically (General Moon wanted Korea to reunite peacefully, but his son wanted to wage war and take on the world; General Moon also let him study at Harvard and Oxford in an attempt to bridge the gap between the East and West), among other aspects, it really tug at my heart strings a little lol
Um... did you live in a place without timeless classics? Like, "I'd rather buy DVDs instead of going to the movies and watch Terminator 3, Bad Boys II, or X2"
the invisible car jumps the shark - the giant laser beam I would say is in keeping with bond. For one theres been other giant space weapons before: golden eye, man with the golden gun...
This one was bad. Although I did like tomorrow never dies. The villain is more relevant to today since he's a media mogul that causes all the mayhem for ratings and sensationalism.
I agree that the villains relevant. Jonathan Pryce is a good actor, but man was he awful in that film. The rest of the movie is ok, but his performance is over the top it's laughable and drags the film down
„Die Another Day“ is a bit over the top at points, but I enjoyed the action immensely and feel that it is an underrated Bond film. „Quantum of Solace“ & „Spectre“ were inferior by comparison. Brosnan is great.
@Superpiair1 Gotta say - from all the Craig-Bonds, I liked his "after-Quantum"-movies. Skyfall was good, Spectre was good, I'm looking forward to "no time to die".
Thomas Martin Spectre, like Solace, suffered from an utterly confusing, and hence, boring plot. A total waste of actors and money. It‘s interesting - as bad as Spectre and Solace were, Skyfall and Casino Royale especially were just terrific. The Craig era has been very up and down
I like this movie for what it is: a silly over-the-top sci-fi action movie. All in all, I'd say this is a bad Bond movie, but a pretty entertaining action movie.
Would just like to just say thank you for actually including spoilers in a review (with, of course, the appropriate heads up to those who don't want them). I like this format a LOT better than when you try and skirt around them with "the funniest thing happens but I don't want to spoil it but you guys who've seen it will know what I'm talking about!" Especially needed them in this case, where it's been so long since I've seen any of the Brosnan Bonds that all I can remember at this point is "YES! I AM INVEENCIBULLLL!" 😁
Hi Chris, I know many people do not like Die Another Day, but I do. As you said, the score (from Madona's song) is upbeat and brilliant, much like Live and Let Die. Every time the musical cue kicks in, the movie switches gears. The actions sequences are amazing, over the top, but yes still amazing. Loved the main villains, the body guard is eye catching as an albino asian with diamonds stuck to his skull. 3 baddies (The trinity is usually reserved for the good guys) and Bond... looses in the opening credits! That's a first! Bond up until then (except for You Only Live Twice) always wins to showcases him. From Russia With Love doesn't count because it's revealed it is not Bond.
I’m someone who hasn’t watched a Bond film ever, yet. But this film was my introduction to Bond, and I swear it was through a Nick Magazine full page “ad”, which was basically the poster in magazine size on regular magazine paper. And there was the fact that Halle Berry was the Bond girl, I remember how much of a big deal that was. But I still never saw it
I wouldn't say "worst" as people usually say. this movie certainly had it's own moments, the actors did their best in what they had in hand. the production was big like some big budget sci fi, had some of the most hottest Bond girls ever. I think if "James Bond" title wasn't attached with this movie then it would be appreciated by the people more
To me: Goldeneye The World is Not Enough Die Another Day Tomorrow Never Dies. Die Another Day may be silly but I think it's more entertaining than Tomorrow Never Dies. I'm someone who loves Roger Moore's Bond so a silly Bond isn't something I look down upon.
You should give Tomorrow Never Dies another chance. The villain being a media mogul makes more sense once you realize how powerful, corrupt and warhungry the mainstream media has become. One of the only mainstream films that touches the topic of manufactured consent.
I totally agree but still, this is my favorite Bond movie. Love the technology, even love the invisible Aston Martin. The score sounds very modern and "tech", making it a perfect fit. The car chase might be over the top due to the missiles but at least it's exciting! Compare that to the boring tour of Rome in Spectre! I also like how Bond got caught and tortured at the beginning. It makes him seem vulnerable, something everybody praised about the first movie with Craig.
The opening of this movie was filmed down the road from my house in the south of England. The film crew were cool to chat to! Review The spy who loved me.
This movie is great! The stuff in North Korea in the beginning, the epic sword fight, Halle Berry, the ending plane battle and then they fall out of the exploding plane in a helicopter and start the helicopter in midair (which I don’t think you could do but I don’t care)! Awesome movie. Second best Brosnan Bond movie right behind Goldeneye. The other 2 were kind of boring.
Peirce Brosnan is the James Bond I am born with or maybe most 90s kids would, Craig is great in his role, but there is something that made Brosnam special.
This was the first Bond film I saw in the cinema, I was 9 so I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I still rank it among my favourite Bond films, albeit mostly because I watch it as a comedy.
It's embarrassing but this is my favourite Bond movie. I was 9, and I remember going to Disneyland Paris and hearing the theme song on the park's radio and seeing promotions around the park for it, then getting home and watching it with my dad. The good old days before isolating.
The start when he gets captured and tortured was amazing! I was totally drawn in, because we'd never really seen Bond lose that badly before, and it was a different path that could have led to some interesting character development. Instead, it just went into farce and Bond hardly seemed phased by his ordeal. A complete waste of a great idea.
The sad thing is, this could've worked if they'd just taken the ridiculous stuff out. The idea of James Bond being caught and then going rogue (working with the Chinese, infiltrating Cuba, etc.) to capture the mole in MI6 would've been really interesting.
DasKame yeah I like them cause of the action sequences and Craig is pretty great and I respect the stuff they try to do with him But James Bond is arguably suppose to be a bit silly and skyfall is a perfect blend between serious and silly in my opinion

Chris' idea of Bond getting tortured by Madonna music had me rolling. 😂
But seriously, the idea of Bond getting tortured was a nice one.
@@HOTD108_ Well, I was an eight year old with no standards for bond-films. Does that explain my opinion at the time?
Squirrel
Just like Moonraker I’m 79’, although it was considered successful, and more films came right away, but the zaniness is similar. As a kid these were just fun action/adventure flicks, with no reality needed.
@@CorbCorbin yep. DAD definitely leaned more toward Moore than Dalton with its plot.
I think another weird James Bond movie is A View to A Kill. But you have to watch it a few times for it to grow on you and I always enjoy Roger Moore charm. He 57 years old in this movie and still put s on a good performance👍
Hot take: there are some great scenes in this amongst the crap.
Cooper Carter mainly Halle Berry on that beach
The stuff in Korea and Cuba then that’s it.
What are you? Some kind of edgelord?
The opening with hoverboards the bond in prison and shit etc is pretty sick
Totally agree. I enjoyed it. It is what it is...
To be honest, this looks like what fast and furious is turning into
right, "turned" into........
You seen Hobbs and Shaw?! Um yup.
lmao Fast and Furious makes this movie look like a masterpiece
Agreed
exactly.

I LOVED THIS MOVIE!!
It's fun and action packed!
I own it on DVD and will own it FOREVER!!
The World Is Not Enough is an amazing Bond adventure. Fight me
Love goldeneye and the world is not enough! I think they're both campy masterpieces!
I really like it too. The theme song by garbage is also awesome and one of the only intros I unironically enjoy.
It’s a good one
Amen brother you got that right
Wow. A bond movie review. Not what I was expecting but what I need now.
This Bond movie will always have a special place in my heart- it was the first Bond movie I saw in theaters. One thing I always wonder if the female roles were reversed, have Rosamund Pike be the Bond girl and Hallie Berry be the femme fatale.
That surf scene in the end was a CGI mess.. he seemed more like a comic book character towards the end
I love this movie. It was my first bond film as a kid and I even watched it again the other day and it’s just so goofy and nostalgic to me that I can’t help but have fun watching it.
Yeah at least it's entertaining
I'll take this one over Her Majesty's secret service and Live and let die
Those movies are fucking boring
It was meh. Rosamund Pike made it bearable lol. Man she's gorgeous in this.
Hot af
She is still gorgeous af. She became hotter as she aged. Have you seen Gone Girl? Goddamn
@@KJ-je9pm she looking like a double wide surprise
she made me forget about halle berry
Honestly the sword fight scene in this movie is really awesome.
Goldeneye was my fav, I'd like to see him do more but given the direction of this film, I guess it's better we moved on lol
This is LITERALLY the FIRST James Bond film I EVER watched. My sister worked at the theater and got me in for free. Even as a child, I was like "THIS IS TERRIBLE".
Quit following the bandwagon, it’s not that bad
No you didn’t
That’s hilarious
Die another day is still the only bond film iv'e seen in the cinema, loved it.
I have good memories of this movie, more-so than other Bond films. It was over the top and just fun to watch.
WHAT??? Tomorrow Never Dies is awesome. And it feels oddly relevant with the manipulation of media these days
Yes, it is. What with the sudden increase of media...Carving it up. ;)
Last of Us 2: Delayed Indefinitely

No mention of Zao? One of the more underrated villains imo. Rick Yune brought a lot of physicality and intimidation.
George Price
Yeah and Chris just rated the new Trolls movie a C-...... seriously... he thinks Trolls is better than this... how sad.
Not to mention his expensive bling acne.
Fiona Valope was more intimidating than Zao.
I actually loved the whole movie. The sword fight was one of the best action scenes in Bond series.
I actually really like this movie, and Pierce's other Bond movies
0:25 “surfing into NORTH korea should have been a pretty clear indicator that this movie was going to go SOUTH real fast”
I see what you did there 😃
Pierce Brosnan is at his best in The World Is Not Enough, love that film
Underrated
Jedrek Nadobnik Goldeneye was his best film.
@@samuelstokes6624 Why do you even need to state the obvious?
Life’s full of small charges
Nopp goldeneye is brosan best bond movie.;):)
Rosamund Pike is one of the most beautiful Bond Girls or villains in the history of the Bond franchise.
I really wish she could come back to do another Bond movie. She's a very good Bond girl, just wish with a better material to work with
I actually liked the gene therapy aspect of the story, and how it added a twist for the main villans at the end too.
4:05, Brosnan said in an interview that he remembers making Golden Eye, but the rest is a blur.😂
Yes he did, in the documentary. If you haven't seen it check it out! It's called Everything Or Nothing.
Sure, Die Another Day isn't a great Bond film, but I still like it. Then again I really like all the films because I grew up on them, so I'm biased...
Um... did you live in a place without timeless classics?
Like, "I'd rather buy DVDs instead of going to the movies and watch Terminator 3, Bad Boys II, or X2"
I grew up with it too but I still fucking hate it
"A giant frikken lazer beam... that jumps the shark" - Dr Gustav Evil
Shiirow I giant sun beam were we see that before oh star wars
the invisible car jumps the shark - the giant laser beam I would say is in keeping with bond. For one theres been other giant space weapons before: golden eye, man with the golden gun...
Golden Eye is to this day still my favorite James Bond. And those scenes with Xenia! O.O
I also received my first boner from those scenes.
Goldeneye was average at best
This movie is glorious insanity; a masterpiece trainwreck
Underrated Bond movie.
I actually enjoyed this movie despite it's issues.
Yeah it's a fun film.
Especially if you're a fan of the sillier Bond films, this isn't much different than a lot of Moore's Bond films.
@@cookiesontoast9981 I agree.
i watched this sing above every Craig Movi (except skyfall)
This one was bad. Although I did like tomorrow never dies. The villain is more relevant to today since he's a media mogul that causes all the mayhem for ratings and sensationalism.
Agreed , tomorrow never dies is pretty underrated actually
I agree that the villains relevant. Jonathan Pryce is a good actor, but man was he awful in that film. The rest of the movie is ok, but his performance is over the top it's laughable and drags the film down
„Die Another Day“ is a bit over the top at points, but I enjoyed the action immensely and feel that it is an underrated Bond film. „Quantum of Solace“ & „Spectre“ were inferior by comparison. Brosnan is great.
Jan Wagner this was at least entertaining and memorable, I can’t really remember much about spectre and quantum
@Superpiair1 Gotta say - from all the Craig-Bonds, I liked his "after-Quantum"-movies. Skyfall was good, Spectre was good, I'm looking forward to "no time to die".
Superpiair1 yeah, it kind of just fell apart. It still wasn’t bad, just not much about it was memorable
When Bond is skating across the ice upside down in his car and used the ejector seat to flip the car to avoid the missile was pretty cool.
Would just like to just say thank you for actually including spoilers in a review (with, of course, the appropriate heads up to those who don't want them). I like this format a LOT better than when you try and skirt around them with "the funniest thing happens but I don't want to spoil it but you guys who've seen it will know what I'm talking about!"
Especially needed them in this case, where it's been so long since I've seen any of the Brosnan Bonds that all I can remember at this point is "YES! I AM INVEENCIBULLLL!" 😁
Brosnan is THE Bond of Generation X... My Generation!
Goldeneye FOREVER!👍
But I still never saw it
It's the worst one in the whole series.
Expendable Indigo So I’ve heard.
Watch Casino Royale. You can thank me later.
I wouldn't say "worst" as people usually say. this movie certainly had it's own moments, the actors did their best in what they had in hand. the production was big like some big budget sci fi, had some of the most hottest Bond girls ever. I think if "James Bond" title wasn't attached with this movie then it would be appreciated by the people more
I will say I do have an affinity for Operation: Rescue Jet Fusion, which basically makes Tim Curry a Bond villain. It even got Michael Clarke Duncan!
Goldeneye was also my favorite. I was so in love with Famke ❤️😅
I remember my old man roaring in laughter in the theater at the wave surfing scene. Still makes me smile whenever I think of it.
I actually enjoy this movie. definitely my childhood nostalgia

The World Is Not Enough
Tomorrow Never Dies
Die Another Day

Goldeneye
The World is Not Enough
Die Another Day
Tomorrow Never Dies.
Die Another Day may be silly but I think it's more entertaining than Tomorrow Never Dies.
I'm someone who loves Roger Moore's Bond so a silly Bond isn't something I look down upon.
I agree with that order 100% The World is not enoug is very underrated.

The Lazer Beam in Die Another Day always reminds me of the Hammer of Dawn in Gears of War!
This one is really weird because it starts really interesting and dark, with great cinematography, an then it goes completely off the rails.
I just came up with the ultimate shock trilogy for a movie night: Die Another Day, Crank, and Crank: High Voltage.
Too bad they didn't nicknamed the North Korean villain, Diamond Face.💎💎💎 AKA Whitewashed.
Have to say, though, this was the hottest Rosamund Pike ever looked on screen.
DAD is an entertaining albeit laughable mess but Tomorrow Never Dies is far from boring thanks exclusively to Michelle Yeoh.
5:30 thats the one thing you have to give Brosnan, that he was committed. He did not phone it in or just went through the motions, he actually tried.
Peirce Brosnan is the James Bond I am born with or maybe most 90s kids would, Craig is great in his role, but there is something that made Brosnam special.
Say what you want but I thought that sword fight and the Minefield chase were awesome.
I had to laugh when he said about the song to the movie being Torture 😂😂
If there’s one positive I can say is that this movie definitely isn’t forgettable lol
You're right. It's bad but its more memorable than Quantum of Solace.
Can anyone please tell me the name of the music that plays at the 6:37 mark?
This was the first Bond film I saw in the cinema, I was 9 so I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I still rank it among my favourite Bond films, albeit mostly because I watch it as a comedy.
It's embarrassing but this is my favourite Bond movie. I was 9, and I remember going to Disneyland Paris and hearing the theme song on the park's radio and seeing promotions around the park for it, then getting home and watching it with my dad. The good old days before isolating.
I get that.
