Thank you very much, I’m doing tune up work on my SLK. Replacing spark plugs, ignition coils and wires, fuel filter, valve, throttle position sensor and I’m adding this on the list. 🔧👍 I’m thinking of doing a video on it too.
Hi Clint. Thank you for your great films regarding your SLK. I have a -99 CLK 230 Kompressor that doesn´t run that good. (We don´t use it winter-time, and the winters i Sweden are long...) We think there might be an injector issue since there is ethanol mixed in to our petrol and it "clogs up" the fuel lines in when not used. Now I got the inspiration and some knowledge to try t change them myself. BIG Thank You. Take Care. // Tomas
Use a carbiter detergent spray first to keep the dust away so that it does not fall into the holes, and then use an rust remover spray to help get out the injectors. Spray it, then move the injectors in all directions and spray the rust remover. Repeat it four times or more (spray and move) and then pull easily .... this My advice I thank you
Very helpful video! Thanks very much for making it! Any chance you'd be willing to tackle one showing how to replace the windshield washer fluid resevoir on the SLK?
The windshield washer fluid reservoir is under the wheel cover on the right hand side. Once you remove the finder liner it should be pretty clear how to change out the reservoir. I have changed it but unfortunately I didn't video the job at the time, sorry. Thank you for your comment.
Hey Clint, did you ever figure out that there was an easier way to do this? I'm in the middle of replacing my engine in my wagon, on my channel, and was struggling with the clips! I found out if you attach them to the injector FIRST then insert them they will click in quite nicely. Thanks!
I really liked the detail you went into to show this. I would like to ask you if you could recommend a set of HID headlights that are OEM compatible. I have an 1998 SLK 230. I need a resource for lots of other parts too. ... Driver side rear view mirror, fog light lens, rear view windshield mirror, new hydrolic cylinders for the convertible top ... If you have a good resource as a referral for parts, I would be grateful. Thanks again, I will be replacing the fuel injectors soon because you have boosted my confidence.
I think you got the aftermarket lights like I've got trouble is mine hasn't got the bracket at the back and they're too low! I need to cut a piece of metal out and make a bracket that fixes into the insert in the inner-wing and connects to the light at the bottom, I wouldn't mind to see a picture of this but I can't seem to find anything do you have anything there or you no of any pictures for the lights? I'm assuming the original had the same fitting why it wasn't put back on the aftermarket I don't know I've gone to maximum adjustment but it's way too low. How often should you replace the injectors then what sort of mileage?
Hi Clint did your r 170 get engine ligt on before u did this! My car engine vibrites some times also loosing power at 4 th gear upwards. I maybe have same problem.
First thing to do is the ignition coils, they are easy. There are two ignition coils, just swap them for each other including the spark plug boot, an easy job. You should see the cylinder 2 misfire change to cylinder 4. If so, you can safely suspect that the ignition coil or boot over cylinder 4 is bad. You can then swap the boots to see if the misfire follows the boot from cylinder 4 back to cylinder 2. Get a new coil and boot from the junk yard or the auto parts store and you'll probably have it fixed. I have fixed many misfire codes with new ignition coils. If the misfire remains on cylinder 2 after you swap the coils, then you know the coil and boot are ok since they are now working well on cylinder 4. The next thing would be to swap the #2 spark plug for one of the other cylinders. If you see the misfire code following the spark plug, then you know it's bad, spark plug swap is also easy. If all that checks out, the next thing to suspect is the #2 fuel injector. Use this video to swap the #2 injector for the #3 and see if your misfire follows it. You can also use a stethoscope with a probe extension to listen to the four injectors, they make a clicking sound so you will be able to hear if the #2 is not firing. The injectors can be plugged up or they can be leakey. Write back and let us know what happened. I have a persistent misfire in #4 and I have ruled out all the ignition electrical, and I can also hear all injectors firing the same. I am on my way out now to swap the #4 injector.
Thanks for a real clear video. One question I’ve read elsewhere that the new injectors need to be ‘coded’. Is this necessary on the 1999 r170 SLK230 petroleum engine?
We have a Porshce Cayenne 2004 v6 and we see If we open the lights inside the cayenne at night, some times theyare working well as a normal, but there is some separation of the acupressure is extinguished for less than a fraction of the second, please if you heard and know any informations about this problems we will really appreciated your knowledge.

Good job, Clint. I have a 2004 MB SLK 32 and I'm starting to do some of this work myself. So your video really helped if I have to change the fuel injectors. You didn't put down the link or text on the video description for the bearing grease or tools. That would be one thing I would add to your nice video. I am getting a P0305 Cylinder 5 misfire (not passing inspection). And I am trying to troubleshoot this problem. But I am starting with the spark plugs, coils, and wires. Question: do you use that "special" spark plug wrench to take out the plugs and wires? I took off 2 of them so far without any special tool, but those were up front and were easier. Will try to swap coils also. Right now I am just changing out the spark plugs (double plugs) on cylinder 5. Then checking with the code reader. I am checking the 2 spark plugs from cylinder 5 with a offboard spark plug tester, just to know. Any tips or ideas? Thanks. Will check out your other videos also.
hey clint im using this guide as a little reference for the fuel supply line. im changing out my steel line for nylon because of a leak I found after changing the fuel filter. The nylon tube thats joined to the supply nipple. there is a compression fitting lower down that line to the steel line. its funny because at first glance, the first line leads to the return part of the rail. Thanks so much almost made a huge mess. but my question, after ive undone the supply line underneath. would you rekon I can cut the hose and use some barbs? to join all of my supply lines?
I have seen barbs used in fuel line applications before. If you do go that route I strongly recommend, in addition to the barbs, hose clamps on both ends.
