How to change fuel pump and fuel filter on Mercedes SLK230

  • This video is on how to change the fuel pump and the fuel filter on a 1999 Mercedes SLK230. This video is also a good example of how dangerous it can get when working on the fuel system. I have a little accident and didn't get hurt badly but I could have been killed if things had gone just a little bit differently.
    If my videos help you and you would like to donate anything at all to help the channel, feel free to donate here whatever amount you would like, everything helps, thank you.

    Thanks for leaving the "human oops components" in your video. By leaving stuff like that in, you've saved some of us from the same path. Too many of these videos show perfect world, perfect install conditions that just doesn't happen when the average person goes to repair their car.

    Clint,
    I really appreciate your struggling a bit on this job. Because “Mr. Murphy” rides on my shoulder, I now understand the possible pitfalls on this project so now I can tackle this project without taking a gasoline shower. I’m sure I’ll get my share of bloody knuckles and I’ll use a few colorful words, but I won’t blow the car and me up!! Thanks! I’m buying your book.

    Hi. Great video. I have a 2021 SLK that's run perfectly every year since I bought it used in 2004. Now it turns over without a hint of wanting to start. I suspect it's the fuel pump. I hadn't thought of the fuel filter also. It's also nice to know that they're both easy to reach. Thx again..

    Great advice about chocking the tires. Definintely don't
    Want the car rolling off the stands anytime. I have a SLK 320 and I kind of think it's the same system as the pump is kind of noisy. Thanks for showing us how this is done.

    Great Video, Thanks for making it. One suggestion in the future would be to drop the assembly down from the rubbber mounts it sits in to make it easier to access. That whole piece will come off the car and will be much easier to work on. I replaced dual fuel pumps on a 1989 300e and removing the assembly made it much, much easier.

Grazie

    Nr. Hightower I watched your video I have the same car your wife. I was told the fuel pump and air filter need to changed. Where do I purchase these parts? There is no sign of gas on the pavement but I do smell gas fume at times. How safe is it to drive to nearby store?

    The two nuts on the filter pump are different in sizes so you don’t have to mark them
    So, does the fuel pump > run to the >filter runs. > to the fuel lines

    • @Engineerboy100
      @Engineerboy100  3 года назад

      Yes, they are right next to each other and the pump send the fuel through the filter before it goes to the injectors.

  • @Bill_1983
    @Bill_1983 5 лет назад +1

    you didn't happen to mention if this solved the problem or not, im having an issue while the car is under heavy load (like a/c on and trying to get on the interstate) I notice the power plateau's and if you push the throttle down further it stumbles, almost like misfiring or lack of fuel and timing advanced too far, supercharger is coming on, I also held it in the stumble for a few seconds hoping to get a check engine light and stored code but didn't happen. I replaced the crank position sensor and I have the fuel pump and filter here ready to be installed but did replacing the pump and filter correct the issue?

    • @Engineerboy100
      @Engineerboy100  5 лет назад

      There was no real problem just an old filter so I changed the pump at the same time. If you're having power problems, it could be a lot of things. I would start with the simple stuff like clean correctly gaped spark plugs. clean air filter, clean throttle body, good fuel pressure on both sides of the fuel pressure regulator. Then, if you still have no power, disconnect the electrical connector to the bypass valve next to the air filter to turn the super charger off and check power before and after. Even though the super charger is coming on, if may not be producing much bust due to the need for a rebuild or there could be a boost leak in the piping to the MAF to the throttle. Hope this helps.
