    it actually makes a lot of sense to have paintball and a dive shop together since paintball uses high pressure tanks for the guns. You need a dive compressor to fill the paintball guns air tanks.

    That'll be red wine then...! Fun video and very enjoyable viewing. There's always a small amount of anxiety and excitement leaving a marina for the next part of your voyage, you captured that perfectly in the video - the headsets do seem to work really well though. That is a small dive compressor in spite of the weight, invaluable though, what are the spec's on it? Love Ava's narrative - perfect and very engaging. Well done!

    Too bad you are stuck where you are down the coast are two of our favorite places - Nazare and Obidos. Ask someone about the fishermen wives and their petticoats in Nazare. Obidos is inland a short distance from Peniche. It is a fully walled Middle Ages community and is full of nice shops and cafes. It was really our favorite place to visit. This time of year there is a chocolate festival and Christmas there is beautiful. ( we are Americans who lived in Portugal four years 2007-2011). You should both find the people friendly as the Portuguese have a particular fondness for what they call expats (immigrants or foreign visitors). Enjoy. We are jealous of you getting to be there. We miss Portugal.

    Guys! You're practically in Coimbra! Just hop a train or a bus, pay for a night in a hotel, and report back! Portugal is such a great place (I can't believe you didn't spend at least a few nights in Porto, and given the state of the ocean, why not?), but it's not all on the coast. A guy that spends $2000 on a dive compressor can show their darling a night on the town or two, can't he?

    My favorite village on the Portuguese coast is Vila Nova de Milfontes at the mouth of the Mira river. Unfortunately not accessible by boat but perhaps good because the small town is not devastated by the tourist industry. Have fun in Figueira da Foz. The surroundings of Figueira da Foz are wooded and the landscape is beautiful. Greetings from Portugal.

    I don’t know the delay in uploading video, but if you are still in Figuiera da foz, a couple of tips. Visit the salt museum, and the town museum, both worth a visit. Coimbra, the old capital of Portugal is also worth visiting, especially the university. If you visit the Skipper bar, give them my regards (from Roger). You can buy fresh fish, fruit and vegetables in the indoor market, opposite the marina. Unfortunately I am not there at the moment due to health problems. Have fun!!

  • @swamprobin3291
    @swamprobin3291 2 года назад +1

    They also close the bars here in the pacific northwest of the United States, for the same reasons.
    As others have said, it's worth checking out the university at Coimbra, it's one of the oldest continuously operated in the world. I am sure you wouldn't miss Lisbon, but I would recommend Cascais and Sintra too. You can buy those pastries you ate, at the place that invented them in Belem.
    Enjoy Portugal; I am more than a little jealous. It's a long sail from Seattle.

    I had a coltri gasoline powered compressor. Loudest thing I have ever owned. I hated to use it so much I sold it. If you've got the pixies, AC powered is the only way to go.
    Oh! and we ordered a Starlink! I had been waiting and waiting for it to be available here in Saint Martin, and consulted the map regularly. I finally got tired of the crappy cell phone data service and was about to order it from Florida, when a friend told me it IS actually available on the French side of Saint Martin (as it is in Guadeloupe and Martinique). The map was kind of referring to the Dutch side of Sint Maarten. I'm happy to learn that because the hardware and service is WAY cheaper in French Saint Martin than ordering through Florida.

    My Catalina 30 has a dive compressor as well. it cost 300US with the 5ft of filter housings. It is also the size of a kids lunchbox or so. The cooling system utilizes water from our water system to cool the unit. It is a Yong Heng and is typically used for paintball as well. Just make super sure that your compressor is using synthetic food grade compressor oil for maximum safety. A lot of people forget about the oil in the compressor needing to be food grade. Also you may need additional filtration.

    Great Video!! Mads I often think, of how many cruising adventurers have accomplished what you have done, along with Ava, in the totally extensive rebuilding of Athena. I don't thing I am overstating the smarts you have in regards to software based equipment. People should be in awe of what you have achieved. By the way, Ava does not seem to require any direction from yourself when it comes to her role as an integral part of the crew. From this end of the computer screen, Ava just gets on with it when you are docking or anchoring, and so on. Oh!, and AVA, you have the natural ability for story telling, and make the little tours around the cities so interesting and funny as well. Who would have thought a few short years ago, that you would be sailing around the world with a Dane, whose long distant ancestors, as you quite rightly pointed out, had a very violent culture. 😊

    Hi guys, glad you enjoyed your (short) stay at Porto. There is a lot more to see, when you return. As you are sailing south, I would suggest stopping at Berlengas (small island near Peniche), and power up that dive compressor. Some interesting shipwrecks to dive over there.

    We have 208 and 240 V here in Americaland. But it is 60 Hz, not 50 Hz. A 240 V 60 Hz motor will usually run fine on 230 V 50 Hz. Just a bit slower. Still I agree it is best to make the purchase in Euroland.

    It was a pity they had already left the beautiful city of Porto. With a little more time having tried 2 dishes from the land, tripe a moda do porto and frassesinha. In Figueira da Foz there is good fish, as the Pasteis de Belem are on their way to Lisbon, stop in Setubal to try a fried cuttlefish. All are traditional dishes.
