The Carbon plate has been great! Boots always put stress on the other foot and can cause injury to the non injured foot. (My daughter's other big toe hurts now)
Got it from FARMING - it's been months, I've taken it easy but haven't taken a day off my feet. Putting socks & boots on shouldn't be painful. Taping might be the tool I needed. Thank you for the video!
Good stuff. I have a grade 1 strain according to these criteria. I tried the tape application as you demonstrated, and it definitely helps. I think I'll be able to get back on the trail without doing any more harm. I'll find out soon enough. Thanks for the tips!
does how you treat/tape differ when you consider chronic v acute injury? I'm imagining a scenario where someone may have low grade irritation for months or years that could potentially be more severe due to degradation over time and therefore may not get bruising. I'm not sure if thats something you see often or ever? Thanks for the video!
Thank you for this. I tripped over some small boulders while walking my dog last night and appear to have a stage 1 or 2. I can move my toe up a little bit but it bends at the knuckle, I can't get it to move straight. I'm 41 and have walked on my toes most of my life. This is the first time I've injured one so it's gonna be really hard for me not to do something stupid without thinking. It's also on my driving foot and I mostly use my big toe on the pedal. I'm not sure if this is what I have. My pain is only on top of my foot. The pain is just above the first joint on top, but only when my toe bends up. I watched another video explaining what turf toe is. And it's a sprain, break, or separation on the bottom near the ball close to your toe. I understand pain, swelling, and bruising can radiate up. But it's not like in that other video.
holy moly, thanks to this video, i think i finally have a name to this pain in my foot... but im not 100% sure. the pain i experience is a sharp pain on the side of the big toe when i step as you demonstrated. the tape job really helps and allows me to step without favoring it.

I slipped and fell just before the new year and I was dumb enough to keep jogging and using my foot normally despite being in moderate pain. Lesson learned! 4 months later I’m finally in a boot and wondering how much longer I will be dealing with this…
Greetings from Italy. I had a similar situation. Because I didn't know what it was I've continued to do sport, making it worse. Now, after 5 months I'm able to walk but not to run without feeling pain after 5 minutes...much worse is at work tho, where I have to wear those stupid shoes with the top on steel, there I have to stay like 3-4 hours in stand position and after it it's like the pain never really went away. Very very dramatic experience this turf toe, in Italy we don't even know what it is so it's difficult to find a good treatment. Hope we all will be better.
I injured my toe exactly how you said, but I have no pain with any toe movement. However, I have pretty significant pain when putting a lot of weight on my big toe the pain is located on the top of my foot, nothing on the bottom.
I used electrical tape, and it worked fine. It seems to be a little more flexible and comes off fairly easily without tearing the skin. I wasn't using gorilla tape 😅. Thanks for the advice. I was surprised by the immediate results.
I can't push off properly with my toes after an injury 5 years ago. I basically kicked a friend's foot instead of the ball while playing soccer. After that I kept walking coz I thought it wasn't that bad (in fact later x ray didn't show much), but after a few weeks I realized I limped when I walk, and today it's still the same! All my muscle legs are strong enough but my foot push off mechanism is not efficient! Causing me not only feet pain, but also knee and hips pain.. :_(
@@calebjohnson3973 Update: after having visited orthopedists, physiatrists and having spent a lot of money in vain on orthotics, I believe that a valid solution for turf toe is to build yourself a rubber support in the forefoot part and more precisely in the interphalangeal plantar area of the toes , so that these are supported during the pushing phase. In addition to these, a good workout of the postural muscles of the lower limb, i.e. the glutes and hip flexors, is also useful.
I miss stepped on a wet stairs in a restaurant. The doctors did nothing in the U.K. NHS. It was grade 3 and now I have a bunion and hammer toe and they still refuse to do anything. Going private and considering legal advice as my running days are over and walking is painful after 7 years.
That is definitely a tough pain to have. If it doesn't get better just make sure to check with your podiatrist or primary care doctor to make sure there is nothing more serious going on. I hurt my foot while moving furniture down the stairs. My foot slipped and all my weight went on my big toe and it bent backwards under my foot. I thought it was broken. But on the x-rays they "only" see osteoarthritis. It happened over 8 months ago and it still hurts. The taping helps a little but I think I'll buy a carbon insole. Thank you for you videos.
I hurt it a week ago it was getting better but then on Tuesday I decided to do running and punching on it and now it hurts a lot and isn’t getting better but it isn’t very swollen and is barely bruised. What should I do?
Its been 3 years and seems like turf toe to me is something that does not go away permanently even after trying all the remedies from all sources there could be. On a side note, I play football and have never given it a rest in the past 3 years. This could be of the reasons that my toe is not going back to how it normally was. I would be surprised to know if giving it a rest is what I am missing here
Thank you for all these valuable pieces of information. Would it be ok after a few days of a turf toe strain to restart running if I support the toe with tape as instructed here - of course as long as I don't feel pain after warm up?
Ouch that's gotta be tough for a marathon. Sometimes if we see something that long it might be more than turf toe,we usually see tightness on the effected side and possibly early arthritis. Check with a doc if worried!
I originally got injured during a soccer match. The toe doesn’t bother until it comes to going on runs longer than 8 miles. If it is turf toe, is there even a fix for it?
I just played soccer for the first time in 3 years yesterday, Immediately my first launch on my sprint, I heard a pop under my big toe, like ball joint is it called? I’m worried about the pop noise, does that mean I tore it? There’s a red circle in the middle of my foot now (morning after)
it has been about 8 months and it still hurts when I fully bend it, like the guy showed in the video, however, I can run and do everything with no restrictions. The pain is there though I can do everything but it hurts a bit. What do you think it was broken? because I never visited a doctor
I think I've had turf toe for 5 years. It gets better in about 2 or so weeks than every couple months or so i reaggravate it and the cycle begins again.

Do you think this would work for a top side injury to the big toe joint? I have similar issue as turf toe, but the pain is on the upper inside of the big toe joint. Basically jammed the toe and flexed it the other way than what you show in this video.
My all toes hurt a lot while bending, except for the big toe. There is not a single video on RUclips for it. Please make one for it. I had them twisted in an injury.
I had a dirt bike kickstarter backfire and it destroyed my great toe joint. I never sought medical attention, I work on a farm so... you go to work. I lived with it healed hallux valgus. That was like four years ago. It weakened certain muscles in my leg that support a very specific foot and leg position, ie. leg extended foot extended with weight solely on great toe. I ended up finding this out on a mountain bike ride when I went to pull a manual through a rock garden and in pushing my back wheel through the rocks that magical position aligned and my knee bent backwards. Not my first knee blow out. I did the other leg 20 years before (riding my bike in a swimming pool) Neither time I sought medical attention both times had me down for about a year and they swell up absolutley terrible. So much fluid and this impacted range of motion more. I have a mass of what I am guessing is scar tissue on the great toe joint that is a bunion. I have in the past year been able to push into the pain of the toe injury and start to manipulate the scar tissue and flex into the soreness and stretch, I started doing assisted pistol squats with weight focused on great toe. Lots of positive cracking in foot, ankle, knee from the excercises. A blown knee is the most excruciating pain I have ever felt and when I got Turf Toe it was a close second. I hope you all heal well.
I do taekwondo every Saturday. I believe this is my second time getting a turf toe? I don't really know if it is turf toe or not but whenever I bend my toe up or down (especially up) it hurts. The first time it was only my right, now it's on both sides. I stubbed my right on a rubber mat and the left one I got from sparring.
Hi, thanks for the vid. very recently my big toe started hurting in joint area that may happen 3-4 times in a day when simply walking. I have mobility in the toe so that if i move it up or down it does not hurt, can it still be turf toe? I also noticed that the bone seems to be sticking out further when compared to my other foot, yet I cannot recall doing anything at all to injure it. There is no bruising and looks healthy otherwise. Thanks again!

After about a month of the injury from football training not healing, I went to the doctor, and after she did some tests with her finger and asking me when there was pain, my doctor concluded it was a bone bruise, I believe it is turf toe, it has been about two weeks and half, now there’s a very little swelling mostly on the bottom of the joint area, and it’s just stiffness when I move it up, do you believe my doctor was right and that I just need to do rehab and exercises?
I jammed my toe about 6 months ago and it still hurts ONLY when I apply a good amount of pressure. The pain is located on the exact same spots mentioned in this video, but I am able to bend it upwards to a certain extent without any pain. The bad thing is that I can’t bend it downwards while my other foot can... Do I have turf toe? Will the exact methods that were mentioned in this video support in relieving my injured toe?
@@hkur I consistently had to wrap my big toe with my other toe to stabilize it, and it went away after 2 months. Dont wrap it too tightly. Try not to apply too much pressure on your foot when walking. Avoid excessive movements or exercises. You want to stay off the toe for as long as you can. Hope it helps.
@@hkur Yeah I couldnt walk properly. I had to place pressure onto the side of my foot in order to walk. If the pain gets worse, rest & elevate the whole foot. Ice the toe 3 to 4 times a week.
Hey ! It seems to me that I have injured my toe while doing some work sitting in semi squat position. Like I was changing the bedding and spent a lot of time tidying it. It has happened twice in last two months and on both days I put my toe under a lot of prolonged stress. The pain is radiating from my big toe to the ankle then & then going up to my calf/side of the right leg. It took a weeks rest to get back being 80% better and then again it got triggered today. What do I do ??
Great video. Where is pain normally felt with turf toe, say type 1. Top of big toe, or bottom? How do you differentiate from say metatarsalgia or sesamoiditis?
What does it mean if my big toe on my dominant foot keeps clicking when I flex it upward? It happens ever time I do it and it sounds like it's causing damage, but it's not really all that painful? Please answer.
Hi! I just have an important question- the doctor says I tore that ligament down blow and that it pulled off a tiny piece of bone- the thing is I bent my toe all the way forward not up. Ans moving it down is more difficult than moving up. Is that still turf toe and is it still important to make it not curl up ??
Hi and thank you for your work! I have a question I hope you can answer... After more than 2 weeks after the injury my range of motion is almost back to normal but there is still swelling in the area... What can I do about?
We know you want a more detailed response, and believe us if allowed we would love to give more specific information. So I need help my big toe tendon got cut not torn and half of two other two tendons including my nerve and I literally cannot bend my big toe just with my toe or by using my Hands. Have had two surgery’s to clean the wound and to repair it in Mayo and I’m 14 and an athlete and I don’t know what to do I have also completed pt
Thank you!! I think I have grade 1. However this was from an injury two years ago (I literally had pain for two years 😂)and when I massaged the top of my big toe where the circular bone is a few months ago it sounded like something “popped” back in place, the pain now isn’t as bad as it was before but there seems to still be some slight pain and tightness after a while every time I place pressure on the ball of the toe when walking and/or flexing and by the end of the day I usually have an achy toe on the side, bottom and on top where tendon is 😂. With a few days rest it seems to be ok unless I exert pressure again, hopefully this will heal. I was diagnosed with tendinitis but I’m not all that sure. It could be that, but turf toe or maybe even sesamoiditis seems like what I have. *Thoughts?* I’m going to try this taping method to see how it fairs. Thank you again!
Uh my pinky toe went completely numb. Then my other toes followed weeks after. My big toe is now painful to put pressure on and my whole foot feels numb. Pins and needles. I feel like it’s a combination of turf toe and sciatica. Opinions?
How about this. My to has been hurt during kickboxing. out of range and only the big toe connetcts. this makes it bend downwards. so a tear of sorts above the toe. what is the rehab for this?
I’m fairly certain I got a grade 3 one but I had crap doctors who didn’t catch it early. I physically couldn’t put weight on my foot so I thought it’d be pretty obvious but obviously not 🤷. It’s been 7 months and I can kinda walk now but I still get pain, gonna see if this helps.

Sounds like I have grade one, but keeps returning - probably due to returning to tennis too soon. Is a ‘clicking’ sound on moving the toe another common symptom? Cheers
What if it’s an old injury to the big toe still causing pain popping? The taping really helped but constricted circulation… very very arthritic toe…suggestions?
I don’t have a bruise on my big toe I can still jog and jump just can’t do everything at full speed but it doesn’t hurt to walk but my trainer said to keep iceing it and she’ll find some exercises that will help?????
I’d appreciate a respond because I can’t afford a MRI and I’m not sure what grade I have and how to approach recovery. I didn’t hyperextend the big toe joint instead I hyperflexed it. I’m not sure how to go about treating it. It’s been swelled for a little while now and still hurts. There was slight bruising but nothing too bad.

Got this while doing a double leg takedown at wrestling. It still hurts badly after a month or break from sports. Thanks for the video!
Get back to work 👴🏻
Good stuff. I have a grade 1 strain according to these criteria. I tried the tape application as you demonstrated, and it definitely helps. I think I'll be able to get back on the trail without doing any more harm. I'll find out soon enough. Thanks for the tips!
We hope you feel better soon!
These are notorious for sticking around a long time, but if no damage they gradually go away if well protected and nothing else is going on!
does how you treat/tape differ when you consider chronic v acute injury?
I'm gonna do more research
Thank you for watching.
If reasonable, we would appreciate a quick rating from you, and a good rating makes a MASSIVE difference for us!

Thank you for being such a great fan; we appreciate you watching!
Thank you so much for the tape pattern, helped me perform way better in the track!
Me same, how to treat it ?
holy moly, thanks to this video, i think i finally have a name to this pain in my foot... but im not 100% sure. the pain i experience is a sharp pain on the side of the big toe when i step as you demonstrated. the tape job really helps and allows me to step without favoring it.
We appreciate you watching! 😊❤🙏
If possible, we would appreciate a quick rating (hopefully good), as it makes a HUGE difference!

I slipped and fell just before the new year and I was dumb enough to keep jogging and using my foot normally despite being in moderate pain. Lesson learned! 4 months later I’m finally in a boot and wondering how much longer I will be dealing with this…
How are you doing now ?
@@sanpat2220 it’s still pretty sensitive. I’m able to walk but after a while it is sore. Thank you for asking..
How can i reach you out to get advice on my foot issues?
Greetings from Italy. I had a similar situation. Because I didn't know what it was I've continued to do sport, making it worse. Now, after 5 months I'm able to walk but not to run without feeling pain after 5 minutes...much worse is at work tho, where I have to wear those stupid shoes with the top on steel, there I have to stay like 3-4 hours in stand position and after it it's like the pain never really went away. Very very dramatic experience this turf toe, in Italy we don't even know what it is so it's difficult to find a good treatment. Hope we all will be better.
@@cynthiam.3833 Go to a doctor. You shouldn't be asking for advice from random people on the internet.
I injured my toe exactly how you said, but I have no pain with any toe movement. However, I have pretty significant pain when putting a lot of weight on my big toe the pain is located on the top of my foot, nothing on the bottom.
If your desperate enough to be watching this, I don't think you need the background music to stay engaged
Strengthen and get the most out of your foot mobility! Foot injuries is one of the most common injury that all of us will experience at least once
I used electrical tape, and it worked fine. It seems to be a little more flexible and comes off fairly easily without tearing the skin. I wasn't using gorilla tape 😅. Thanks for the advice. I was surprised by the immediate results.
Great point!
@Kiana I also made an MRI but in doctors opinion nothin is bad on my foot. Turf toe is a complex problem
Damn man, the same thing happened to me today I kicked my teamates foot and wasn't even wearing shoes while playing football. I regret it.

Hurt my big toe during jiu jitsu and it hurts when I bend it. I’ll try this out thanks
That is definitely a tough pain to have. If it doesn't get better just make sure to check with your podiatrist or primary care doctor to make sure there is nothing more serious going on.

It now hurts when trying to get motion in my big toe and the toe is stiff, is this normal??.. could I have damaged it/scar tissue and should I be worried? Please help
Mine has a cut in it. I stepped on something and slipped and did that turf toe movement. It has a cut in it, it is super painful. I can’t move it up, watched the video, what do who suggest I do!
I just discovered this video. And my foot, the top part and the base below my big toe, has been healing but it still hurts when I move my toes up on their own, but I’m limping. I’m trying this method out. I got it from ju jitsu after I landed on my left foot while bending it. Wish me luck
I've had this for a few years now so much i can't really remember if I injured it or I have gout. X-ray showed no problem so unsure of next step

Can you get turf toe from kicking heavy bag? I mean the supporting leg toe, when doing turning kicks
I know a *few* things about this, but I'm way fucking late.
Yes. Yes you can. :P
Never had bruising or swelling, but mine still hurts after 5 weeks. Could it still be Grade 1?
Same condition for me ,2021. I got the injury it healed after 9 months , and i started playing and it came back.😢
Its been 3 years and seems like turf toe to me is something that does not go away permanently even after trying all the remedies from all sources there could be.
Been living with it for five years. It killed me during my marathon.
@@Eric-yx1gsmaybe it’s become chronic? Or maybe like untreated arthritis? Have you see a doctor

I don’t have bruising but it has been hurting for months now.
I did the other leg 20 years before (riding my bike in a swimming pool)
Neither time I sought medical attention both times had me down for about a year and they swell up absolutley terrible.
Has anyone had this issue when shooting in wrestling? Be curious to hear what you do
Hi, thanks for the vid. very recently my big toe started hurting in joint area that may happen 3-4 times in a day when simply walking.
I did something like this, except my big toe went underneath my foot instead.
My injury is still lingering for 2 months how long should it take to recover from turf toe

Hi! I just have an important question- the doctor says I tore that ligament down blow and that it pulled off a tiny piece of bone- the thing is I bent my toe all the way forward not up.
*Thoughts?*
