  • Welcome to the 2nd of 2 videos to bring you up to date with my summer running and adventures. I take on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge, run at several new parkrun locations and watch my very first Ironman Triathlon. It’s been great fun!
    Thanks to Donato for the use of his footage ‪@PoetWithPace‬

    A Trail Runner’s Poem:
    This poem first appeared in the Fall 2021 issue of our Trail Times newsletter. The poem was conceived and written at the Active at Altitude fall Trail Running Camp, September 16, 2021 in Estes Park, Colorado by Virginia Schultz, Jason Lenz, Allison Corcoran, Rebecca Kadish, Jim Armentrout, Brian Halweil, Dawn Vaughn, Carolyn Weber, Vicki Hunter, Jacqueline Chiplin, and Terry Chiplin.
    Nature is Open
    All sextillion years of R&D
    every molecule mind and matter unite
    synchronicity immersed in still omnipotent silence speaks to heart
    and welcomes us, no matter our mood
    the trails are a common ground where all are welcome
    the trails are where spirits can be healed
    flexing our mental muscles to embrace neuroplasticity and improved trail dancing
    and the voices in the wind keep us singularly united
    no trace of our passing, our visit, and the nourishment we take.

    Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau is the national anthem of Wales.
    The title - taken from the first words of the song - means "Old Land of My Fathers" in Welsh, usually rendered in English as simply "Land of My Fathers".
    The words were written by Evan James and the tune composed by his son, James James, both residents of Pontypridd, Glamorgan, in January 1856. The earliest written copy survives and is part of the collections of the National Library of Wales.

    Hi Rachel, what a lovely video. Looks like you've had a fantastic summer. So glad you made it to Yorkshire! I live in Harrogate where there are loads of lovely running routes. You should definitely give Fountains Abbey parkrun a go. Wishing you all the best for your future goals! 😊

      Hi Tom, thank you! Yes, Yorkshire has so much to offer that we definitely want to go back. We’d like another run on the 3 peaks route again and we want to give Fountains Abbey a go too. We watched Running with Andy’s Yorkshire marathon video where he ran FA parkrun the day before and it definitely sold it to us 😁

      Like any results, official parkrun times can vary to what the watch says. On the 2 times I got 20:01 I was hoping for an improvement on my own watch time. Unfortunately they were spot on both times. Might have been wishful thinking though as I’d have needed them to take 2 seconds off on both occasions….least they didn’t add any on 🤣
      I’m out again tomorrow for another crack 🤞

    Yorkshire three peaks looked great :) If you don't fancy investing in a bike, theres always that crazy world of "swimrun" you and Rory could both get into at the same time? Multiple transitions from swimming to running and back again. Its something I have like the idea of.

      A while back I did have a go at a few aquathlons and quite enjoyed them but decided to just stick to my running. We’ve seen the swimrun and have thought about a possibility of having a go at one. I think the biggest thing for me is that I get really cold when I do open water swimming. I’d need to go somewhere tropical 😁

    Absolutely brilliant, you've had so many adventures. The three peaks are deffo on my bucket list to do, also want a crack at that sub 20 parkrun. Ran sub 20 5ks in my 20's then stopped running. Started again at 50 now 59 and only 12 seconds away, going to give it a good go in a few months. Keep enjoying and posting the videos. Well done!! x

      Thanks Jenster 😁 I can highly recommend the 3 peaks. I’m tempted to run it again as each time would be different depending on the weather. A snowy day or a sunny still day would be a complete contrast.
      In 2019 I got a pb of 20:18 and it wasn’t till March this year, that I beat it. I’ve had 3 pbs since and not one has been under 20. It’s been the biggest number torture of my running career 🤣 Good luck with the sub 20 goal too 😁

      Hi Jess, thanks! I pretty much gave up on swimming in April. I then did a 2k open water swim and thought it wasn’t too bad so thought I’d just go for it and see if I could get the 5k distance in. It wasn’t as near as bad as I thought. I’ve always wanted to do a 10k swim (with training) but even at 5k it was probably a bit too cold to carry on. Might need to go to the tropics to get that one ticked off.
      Hope things are going well with you 😊

    • @racheld1844
      @racheld1844  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Paul. We hadn’t expected it to to be that windy at all. I think the forecast was for 15/16 mile an hour winds, but it was definitely a lot stronger than that, especially on the summits. There’s a cross roads at 4.5 miles in and the main route is straight on, and for a Hull Pot diversion it’s just a right turn at the this point, the u-turn to get back on to the original path again. Hope you get to enjoy it as much as we did Paul 😊

      @racheld1844  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Mack. It’s a great route to follow and if you head from Birmingham to Worcester, it’s more downhill. There’s a small section where you have to come off the towpath and negotiate a housing estate but everything else is pretty plain sailing. We parked at Bromsgrove, caught the train to Five Ways and ran half a mile to get to the start at Gas Street Basin. When we finished in Worcester we caught the train back to Bromsgrove. I definitely think you should give it a go 😁

    Thank you for uploading, Rachel. Absolutely loved it from start to finish.
    Such an action packed video, so it's very hard to know where to begin with the comments.
    **Yorkshire 3 peaks - Looked like you both had great fun. This was a great insight into what looks a good challenge.
    Despite being in my neck of the woods, I've never done this. I know you had a slight navigational error early on but was route easy to follow? Wind always adds to the challenge but it looked quite horrific on the day.
    **Nice to see you ran at Skipton ParkRun. Done that one a couple of times and have also run Skipton to Leeds on the canal a fair few times. 29 miles - nice easy route to follow.
    **100 meter walk looked fun. 😆🤣. Think they do an official track marathon running event on that track in Dudley. Just the 106 laps for 26.2 miles.
    ** Wow!! Massive congratulations, Rory. Iron Man is on a different level of awesomeness. As a non-swimmer and non-cyclist, it's so far out of my reach but I think it is certainly something for you to consider in the future. Everybody says the swim is toughest section. Your incredible 5k open water swim shows you'd nail that section, so I know you'd do really well.
    **I saw your appearance on Donato's video. My reply to him was - despite the smiles, 20:01 must've been an incredibly frustrating run for Rachel. That sub 20 will happen soon, I'm sure. Thanks again, Rachel and very best of luck with future challenges. Keep up the awesome content.
    Ps. Let's take a moment to appreciate Ribblehead Viaduct (3:25). What an incredible example of craftsmanship it is.

    • @racheld1844
      @racheld1844  10 месяцев назад +2

      Hi Colin, thanks for your long reply 😁 I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
      The 3 peaks was mostly easy enough to follow. It’s a very well trodden route and finger posts at most turning points. There could be a few spots that you might need a map of gpx though, just to be sure.
      Skipton is the first route I’ve done with 4 laps. I didn’t think I’d enjoy it too much but it was good fun looping round. We’d watched the parkrun in 5 mins video to get an idea before we arrived but it made it look more flat than it was. The volunteers were very friendly and we were told a bit about the history of the park and where to head for a cool down (along the canal). We both enjoyed the part of the canal that went through the town, very picturesque. Skipton to Leeds sounds good fun, a bit like my local canal route I like to do from Birmingham to Worcester.
      I didn’t know about the 100 mile on the Dudley athletics track. I’ve seen a few like this and it actually is something I’d quite enjoy!
      And yes, even in the natural beauty of the Yorkshire Dales, the architecture of the viaduct was a great sight. As the middle peak is a large horseshoe shape, we saw the viaduct for a large section, even though we’d covered plenty of miles.
      Hope the Yorkshire Marathon went well fr you Colin?

      @@racheld1844 Thanks Rachel. The event at Dudley track is thankfully ‘only’ a marathon (106 laps), rather than 100 miles. 🙂

      Hi Chloe, thank you! I think at some point I may just have to sign up for an ironman, just to see if it’s something I like. Watching and taking part are completely different 😁 My biggest hurdle is the bike leg and as it’s the longest part of the event, I’d have a bit of work to do in training myself up to those distances… and I’d have to buy a bike too, and learn how to fix it 🤣
