I bought back in the the 2000's and resold on Ebay they actually came in a hard case. I have one of these coming Monday. Sort of a bucket list guitar. Wanted a LP since about 1970 for the tone. A Gibson is not doable. But this is, and the Amazon connection adds real value as the shipping is free and if you get a lemon, you just print a label and send it back. Many of the others would be a lot more complicated to deal with. If it arrives straight and undamaged, I'm sure it will be all that I need to fill that niche, it's close enough for what I need. Now for patience....

  • @RumbleFish69

This is a great review! There is one thing that is seldom mentioned when these Les Paul copy/tribute guitars are reviewed, and that's the weight. What I like about this video is that you mention the weight and the feel and you also talk about the quality of the components - this is important. For me, weight and feel are super important....For example, I own a 1970 Lotus, Les Paul tribute, with the tobacco burst, which at the time, was regarded as one of the finest Les Paul copies ever made. In fact, along with the "Venture" the Lotus copy was one of the so-called Gibson "lawsuit guitars" of the '70s.
At the time, brand new, this same Lotus LP tribute guitar cost around $900 bucks, which oddly enough, was right around what a real Les Paul cost back then. The Lotus is simply an extremely well-made guitar and many have even said that it was actually better made than a real Gibson Les Paul! My point is that this guitar is heavy AF! It's a "Goddamn, this is f*cking heavy" kind of guitar! When I pick up my Lotus, I often forget how heavy it is and when I pick it up, the surprising weight always makes me drop an expletive! One simply picks up this guitar and can immediately feel the difference in weight, which probably means better quality just by its weight alone. I do believe that most people might agree that a heavier guitar, might generally translate to a manufacturer who used solid wood, better internal components, and better quality outer mechanics as well - usually. I can say that this is at least true of the early '70s Lotus. Today I can pick up a Les Paul tribute guitar and 9 out of 10 times, it will be extremely light. I'm old school, so I am of the mindset that the heavier the better - again, usually. Light guitars, whether LP's, Strat's, PRS, or any other copy, just gets me wondering about the overall quality and workmanship.
Well, either way, I just purchased one of these through the small window where Amazon sells them. I have tried to purchase this guitar in the past with no luck, and I was certainly not about to buy it used, at a 100% mark-up on eBay. I have literally seen these guitars for $400 bucks, used, on eBay - no thanks, Tom Hanks! It's hard to go on Amazon and actually find these guitars available, but for some reason, I got luck today. I took a chance to see if I can find one and there were three available, so I purchased one. I paid $189 bucks, which is a pretty good deal for any LP tribute guitar no matter what you get. Worse case, if I am not happy, I can always put it up for sale on Craigslist and just get my money back. Oddly enough, I just think the scarcity of these guitars drives up the price outside of Amazon. Still, I can't wait to see what I get! Thumbs up review, my man!

Great comment - I've had a couple of old Lotus guitars and they were excellent. I'm glad you got one of these and it worked out for you. I put a lot of stock in how a guitar feels in the hands too - it's something instinctual and personal.

@@FlowforthInstruments Thanks, brother! I appreciate the comment. By the way, I received my IYV ILS 300 today and man, boy oh boy, can I say, I am super impressed. This thing is flawless! I ended up paying $159 with free shipping! Amazon gave me a $30 credit so I applied it to this purchase, so it ended up being even cheaper than I initially thought. The inlay on the headstock is a bit different. The inlay seems to be this dark, sort of multi-colored pearl they use for the logo and the center design. It is pretty dark and almost looks as if there is no logo, but when the light picks it up, it looks quite nice. The truss rod cover also has some foreign writing on it that I don't believe yours has, but I can tell from what country exactly - I might change that to an all black cover. Gotta say, this guitar plays nicely! She feels pretty good in my hands and the weight is also nice. I think this one will be a keeper! Many people have purchased this guitar based on your recommendation...So I'm just saying, I think you should get a piece of that sales action. If you'd a had a link on this video to where I could purchase it, I would definitely clicked, but you didn't. If you're recommending guitars, and people are buying based on that, then I just think that you should get your tribute! Many other reviewers do this and it's a nice little side-hustle. I'm a new player(sort of) 5 years. I have bought 14 guitar's since I started playing, a Fender, a PRS, a Gibson, a G&L And a few Epiphone's SG's and Les Paul's. I have spent over 20 grand in 5 year's of playing because I got a real bad case of GAS. I wish I had learned how to work on guitar's first, because I could have saved some serious money buying a cheaper guitar and up grading it. I just got the new Epi. 59' Les Paul reissue and If I had bought some Gibson pick up's like it has and some other quality part's and a guitar like the one you are showing it would sound the same and cost way less I think. I just got a Schecter C-1 Exotic trem. Ebony wood top and it's a floating trem. and I don't know how to set the action so I had to bring it to my tech. like I had to with all my floating trem. guitar's like my Strat and my PRS. I am going to look into some of these less expensive guitar's like Harley Benton and the like. Thanks for the video.

@@FlowforthInstruments I believe these IYV guitars are among the best quality of all the inexpensive guitar brands. I damaged my left shoulder a couple months ago and right now am unable to play more than five minutes at a sitting, but did play enough to be able to rate this LP copy 5 out of 5. A couple minor cosmetic issues, but still a 5 for the price of this one. Finally played it maybe 5 minutes and in that short time, it is obvious it could hold it's own with most $500-$600. guitars. I am an old guy who's played for 55 years and never before in cheap guitar history was i able to buy a guitar for this price and still have decent quality. Thanks again for your very informative and honest review.

I tried to order one from Amazon several months ago, and they shut down my account due to “suspicious activity.” They said their account people would call me back, and they never did. I went through that several times, and then it didn’t matter-Amazon discontinued the line. Then I thought “maybe I can get it off of eBay.” The ebay IYV’s went from $20 to $80 more, but I had to have it. The first order was canceled and refunded as they ran out. Same thing for the second order. I finally was assured by the third company I ordered from that it would be shipped to me quickly, for $260 including shipping. I waited a month, and the order tracking showed it was sent to the wrong state, so I had to demand my money back. I found it on eBay again for $260, and ordered it again (open box,) and I just got my IYV ILS300 a couple days ago-so persistence finally paid off. Yes, it is worth what I paid, and it will need a little adjusting. It does not play quite as sweet as my 2001 Gibson Les Paul Special, but there is around $1,000 difference in price. The IYV is a keeper as it will be my practice “beater” Les Paul. I do love the headstock inlays, but surprised to find out the body is spruce over plywood and not mahogany (is that right?)

@@FlowforthInstruments I am a COMPLETE beginner on guitar, but IMHO prolly know more about guitars themselves (NOT playing them) than anyone who's been playing less than at least several years. It's because I have a technical mind and like to understand things, plus I'm a DIY'r. I've watched countless YuoTube's like yours pluys others on guitar tech work. So my little stable is a Gregg Bennett Royale RL-4 (check out how the body is made. Cool concept for sustain. gregbennettguitars.com/guitars/electric/royale-series/rl4/) I have a Harley Benton TE-70RW (Bstock for $112) another HB SC Custom II (BStock for $187). Bought a Glarry Strat to learn tech on. Building up an unfinished partial project I got on on eBay. Guitarfetish XGP flamed maple burst Strat shape, but HH design, Warmoth Fender headstock neck, Seymour Duncan P-Rails pups (humbucker/single/P-90 all in one). The neck is probably worth most of what I paid for the body, neck and neck pickup. Couldn't pass up $119 for a Fender CP-140SE Parlor sized acoustic/electric with hard case for $119 delivered on an Adorama special. Have used Washburn A/E as well that I got cheap with HSC too. Now I just need to learn to actually play - lol. I'm totally into bang for buck and am probably going to pull trigger on the IYV Mustang copy (it's just too cool and so cheap) and their beautiful red tele cut-out model (which is listed on Amaxzon as a PRS solid body - ???????) Currently those are $135 and $172. Crazy to be able to own of stable of good guitars for less than the price of a single nice Les Paul, isn't it???

@@FlowforthInstruments Yeah, I have a hard time making a purchase of any sort that's not a bargain! Pulled the trigger on the Idyllwild Spruce top A/E for $173 delivered. I think by Sat I'll have that plus the two IYV Mustang and red P-90 semi-hollow tele (aka solid body PRS per IYV description! lol). The IYV Jazz model is tempting, but too similar to the Greg Bennett. The only thing I might need to round the herd out is a Gretsch or something similar with Filtertron pups. Toyed with the idea of getting the IYV Jazz model and putting in some Filtertrons, or leave as is, and put Filtertrons in the Greg Bennett....but I'll prob stand pat for now unless some steal shows up, or unless I see you put up a reviewed/setup axe for sale that I can't live without it! 😎
