    Really like the new context menu. I didn't have a problem with just the icons, but I knew many older people who were totally lost when it switched to Windows 11. This is a nice looking return to function.

    • @kornkernel2232
      @kornkernel2232 2 месяца назад +16

      Well not really just old people, many people got confused on this one even me, though I mostly use shortcut keys so it didn't affect me that much. But where I work, we just now got some comments time to time from our users about this.
      It's more of muscle memory thing since the position where those function has been remained consistent in Windows for decades at this point. The label does helps a lot than just icons which is far tinier that it is easier to miss at glance. Some will adapt, but trying to change muscle memory is hard and people want to work efficiently, so this introduces rough edges.

If you absolutely must use Microsoft Office instead of Libre Office, you can use the online version, which nowadays is the exact same thing as the "offline" application. For games, 99 % of games are just as easy to install and run on Linux as on Windows, thanks to the great work of Valve. If it's on Steam it's especially easy, but even non Steam games are easy to install and run most of the time, with very few exceptions. If that wasn't true, the Steam Deck wouldn't be so popular. Linux is better than it ever was, and it's only gonna get better every year, since there's no corporation interests tied to it. There are two main audiences: casual users who check emails or handle simple tasks and find online clients more than sufficient, and corporate users, for whom Outlook from the Office suite is the go-to. Between these two worlds, there’s a small, often overlooked niche, and I suspect this new app is trying to cater to that gap a bit.

      @@CesarPeron Problem is, new Outlook PWA is worst of both worlds at least for now. App just not well cooked and very unpolished. It's not snappy, it's not beautiful either, not great for touch, it doesn't fully work offline, notifications are but inconsistent, sometimes it opens unusually large windows even. They basically grabbed all the bad things and made it into single app, not much single most redeeming quality except for basically making OWA its own window.
      All these can be addressed, but they are already terminating the old Mail and Calendar app with something less snappy, less beantiful, less polished and less stable replacement.

    • @Thoths_Pen
      @Thoths_Pen 2 месяца назад

      @@kornkernel2232it’s also not a real email client. You have to give MS your credentials and their servers grab the mail from your email provider. They then parse that to New Outlook using Microsoft Sync. It lets them train their AI on your email. And who knows what else, but New Outlook is a web front end basically for a man in the middle email viewer.

    • @Harteo3917
      @Harteo3917 2 месяца назад

      @kornkernel2232 It's going that way less beautiful because of artificial intelligence far more stripped down because it's lighter on it to help it process and it helps it find things. Look at light mode of youtube look how textual it is now and the lack of an interface design it's just text and thumbnails it'll go that way more and more as AI advances.

I had to completely disable the feature entirely in my Windows 11 Pro install because, for whatever reason, and don't ask me why because I haven't a clue, just having the Copilot feature enabled, running/active or not, was enough to prevent Microsoft Edge from closing properly and was keeping it running in the background despite the proper settings being used to prevent this. @@GroteGeer That means nothing it won't change too much because it has to still work with any current computers used. Clearly the next versions will now just be a constant continuation of windows to be able to keep up to date more frequently.
      Before it was a new windows every 6 years and then another 2 or 3 years support but now it's only been nearly 3 years since "windows 11" so it's still technically 11 it's just that the taskbar and start menu will be floating and look a bit slimmer. The next step to creating a layout even more friendly for touch screens and tablets, all technology will go into using touch screens it will probably be standard for computer screens and laptops to have a touch screen after they do this currently you can get laptops with or without touch screens but it's more useful if everyone had one.
      The windows and stuff will probably be like what we see on android mobile phones where we can drag stuff around i mean we already can with a lot of things on windows but it'll float more and less boxy, i hope we finally get a floating digital clock for the desktop it's been years coming.

      hope you enjoy it. despite the prettier interface, windows 11 has been a buggy problem for me. often my pc will take 10 minutes to shut down, or it used to completely crash when opening file explorer (when windows added the gallery feature to it) etc. my experience has been resolved with that latter point after some file edits, however windows 11 is not what i expected. i too would like to see it improve, instead of microsoft pushing almost useless features like copilot and what not.

    • @Harteo3917
      @Harteo3917 Месяц назад

       @michael3147 It's just like windows 10 and there isn't going to be any drastic changes to the next windows now, they're going to be more like versions on mobile phones now so there's nothing to expect, they're making everything more for functionality now. Windows 12 is coming next year and the only difference is the interface will be better for touch screens and they're going to start using artificial intelligence cpus with windows but it'll be optional until windows 13.
      Any bugs you're getting that means something got corrupted in the install which it's prone to because you download it over an internet connection 100% now, degradation can happen in the transfer much more easily sadly. Especially with the bios so try installing a fresh bios copy either from your laptops or your motherboards manufacturer.
      Microsoft are well aware of it but i don't think they can entirely fix it yet but they will in the future probably when they figure it out. If you've got a pretty new computer it shouldn't take 10 minutes to shut down so if installing a fresh bios doesn't fix it consider doing a reset because it could take the second time for it to install right. Wait 3 months to update to the next version too because of drivers you need to give everyone time to create updated ones.

This is common thing that some features in Windows got axed because few people use them, but that's because those features are so incomplete, unpolished or just broken and barely or if any updates done with it. Virtual Desktop introduced in Windows 10 were half-assed and mostly left to rot and only got some improvements in Windows 11, and now left to rot again. All while most Linux distros and MacOS pretty much already nailed all the essential functionalities without making it over-featured that only power-user can use.

Computers were very simple so they had to have a seperate bit of software like wordpad and notepad to do a few different things, but now they could put both into notepad with smart and artificial intelligence integrated into it.
      Same with outlook putting all the features into it but i think they only update those things now because they tend to wait for far better advancements in technology until something is definitely not needed anymore so then they can properly update it and it works well. There's dozens of times i've said they could do certain things with the current technology but they never did some of those things until years later when tech advanced more, i guess they just couldn't without risking stability issues.

      They didn't promise anything they said "windows 11 will be the last windows" which means not doing it the same way they did for several decades now where there was a new windows in disc every 6 years, noop no need to do that anymore.
      Windows isn't going to be like previous ones anymore instead they'll pick up where they left off from "the last windows" and use that as the base and change it more gradually like they're doing with windows 11, next year is "windows 12" but still compatible with current technology, and the next number will be adapting the interface to use it better on touch screens and other tech that's around at the time.
      It's like the next versions of mobile phone operating systems now going from android 12 to android 13, 14, 15 and so on a new version every 1 year, but with windows every 3 years but won't need to sell our computers as fast as our mobile phones these days with most only given 2 years of updates, at least i hope it won't go in that direction because laptops alone cost £850 for the cheapest one.
      They get the luxury of doing that now because all the updates are sent through the internet and we have the technology to be able to do that now, so it's the end of "invent a new operating system every 8 years on cd" lol. Technology is going to advance faster and faster from here on out too so it's more flexible doing things this way so they can change the interface a bit every 3 years.

    • @DontayArnold
      @DontayArnold 2 месяца назад

      @@Harteo3917 Ik we weren't promised anything by Microsoft, I was referring to an article on the next version of Windows, where we are supposed to be getting CorePC rather than what we have now, which would make it much easier for Microsoft do as you said and simply send updates over the internet. While we have that happening now, it is not nearly as efficient as the updates that occur on the mobile OS's that you mentioned.

    • @Harteo3917
      @Harteo3917 2 месяца назад

      @@DontayArnold "Windows 12" will support Nano Processors which is used to control AI but it'll probably be optional because those processors are super expensive right now and most computers don't have one, but they can't tell us to get a new computer so they'll be supporting systems with some things and some without them.
      At least for a while anyway i hope they always do it but chances are they won't because of how fast technology is starting to advance and needing to reuse and repurpose because of the environmental impact.
      The updates are already efficient we just have to wait at least 3 months for driver updates and bug fixes to update to the next version, i can imagine once we start having computers using AI processes it'll get more efficient with less bugs but i think we'll still have to wait for those drivers and bug fixes. We're waiting on microsoft to updates theirs now too because they have their own AMD graphics driver and BIOS now so it stays up to date with where windows is at.
      It's harder to do all that for computers than it is for mobile phones or other handheld devices so it takes longer to write all the code and iron out the bugs so why it takes much longer. in future though we can already see everything turning into touch screens and being simplified so if computers are a lot more like mobile phones and tablets they'll certainly be a lot easier to make updates for.
