Not really. At one time, the men in a community kept misbehaving men in check. Someone performing this type of crime would have been physically beaten very badly for targeting a senior and a woman. Crimes against children would have been handled harshly too. IF the wrongdoing was bad enough, the culprit would have been executed with or without trial.
I think Europeans came up with the idea of prison. The original concept was to have relatively short sentences and to focus on reeducating these troublemakers to become productive members of society. It evolved into a very profitable business and well-paying profession for punishing and warehousing overwhelmingly men who are mentally ill and/or dysfunctional.
Black male criminals typically were raised by single mothers, read on a 2nd grade or lower level, and were passed through school without achieving grade requirements. So, they were set up to fail in life. We don't have an effective system in place to undo that damage. Rightists want everyone behind bars while leftists want to create increasingly more victims.

    1. Her son growing up bad against all she probably tried to teach him.
    2. Seeing him steal from and risk injuring that elderly lady.
    3. Having to be the agent of truth who called the police, which will likely result in his rightful incarceration.
Huge integrity in that mother. A good heart. A brave heart. Protecting innocent society and putting right before wrong. Her actions run so contrary to the enabling, excuse-making, and blame-shifting that we tend to see in reaction to so many criminal actions these days.

Unfortunately I know as well. Although he has never done anything to this degree he's made alot of terrible life choices. No matter how much I tried and what I did to try to correct and stop him. It's so hard and very painful as a mother/parent you are so right. My heart goes out to you as well. I respect this mother very much. I'd do the same thing if I and to.

I feel so bad for his mom.
When a child is carried and loved, from womb to birth, we have positive dreams and goals for that child.
So when it choses a lifestyle of crime, it's difficult to process and accept.
He's young, so I pray he changes his life for the better.

Still sounds like bad parenting. You don't just commit crimes like this with good parenting.
