  • Florida's wetlands are crucial for the ecosystem and wildlife in these places. The waters here flow through the swamps out from the creeks and rivers. As these lands become developed the wild spaces become changed forever it is important to highlight and share about them. In hopes that people will cherish and want to save these lands that are so very critical. Save the wetlands, preserve and enjoy them.

Yes I'm 62 years old and live here all my life I got to see everything before most of it got destroyed. I used to go skinny dipping on the Weeki Wachee River and now there are hordes of people there. There are still some beautiful places and the Trailblazer goes

Did you hear our Governor and the FDEP wants to bulldoze Jonathan Dickinson State Park and Hillsborough River State park for two or three Golf courses? Anastasia may have a 350 plus or minus Resort both on the beach side with Pickleball, tennis and more asphalt. Hobe Sound Look out on the Hill will be bulldozed I'm told. At least 8 or ten parks are planned for the Bulldozers. Meetings being held this coming Tuesday with room for 150 citizens at , I guess the parks on the target list. I'm going to check out FDEP site but you all can check on YT. Jack Nicklaus' (SP) son is being targeted for his ideas?

Currently, there is a massive proposal to destroy the state parks by tearing out the natural ecosystems and replacing them with golf courses, hotels, and pickleball courts. Apparently, someone thinks the state parks should be more profitable.

Beautiful video. That is what a lot of our state was. It's how the native American people traveled throughout much of the state by dugouts and canoes in in swamps and rivers and creeks.

Thanks for sharing such an important video,
So beautiful following along with your hike.
Just retuned from over Crystal River area and so much building is going on.
Growing up around the big pastures full with thriving cattle and horses . The river had more kinds of fish and things are sure changing at warp speed lately. Sad seeing long term ranches sold or up for sale like SHAMROCK Most understand change yet always finger pointing. Truth is with certain things they must be protected. Or the sad consequences shall rear their devastating heads.
Safe and happy hiking FTB it’s tougher than how easy you make it look. We must protect our wetlands and please get word out about the changes that Florida is trying to do with several State Parks.

Meetings statewide on Tuesday! Don't forget the golf course adjacent to Rainbow State Park flopped years ago. Anastasia Park is one target. Golf courses galore. Great place for floods now that the wetlands are being paved over. Ther's a 2K acre development going in just below Chiefland city limits along the West side of HWY 19. Two lakes already and I think a lot of wetlands on both sides of 19.

@Cerceify4645 the State Park meetings are being rescheduled. Too many people found out about this diabolical plan, and there isn't enough space at any of the venues. They need more space to accommodate everyone.

When, I think it was hurricane Debbie coming through south central Florida the news media made a big deal about Babcock Ranches development having relatively little flooding due to their wetlands. Sierra Club sued the development originally to save those wetlands, as the company wanted to bulldoze wherever they could. Sierra did settle out of court but the wetlands still intact did save many homes.

Well with my budget I can only get a mid-range type boot I'd say one that is waterproof but has it's limitations. I was wearing waterproof Columbia hiking boots in this video and they hold up good. But once you get water over the top of the of them you are wet. Once I got so wet on this hike I decided just to get in the water at that point. If you want the best kind you have to keep the ones that go up to your knees or even waders.
