I like to think Angela Lansbury had a blast with this role. She was certainly a lot of fun to watch. We are given a grim love triangle and a murder mystery surrounded by a light-hearted romp of supporting cast. How odd.
THANK YOU so much for publishing this movie for our enjoyment! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this rendition of Agatha Christie’s book! God bless you for your kindness!
An exotic & stylish film with a stellar cast! Love how Maggie Smith & Bette Davis play off each other! *I'd* give every tooth in _my_ head for Lynette's pearls LOL!!! 🦪 Thanks for posting this great film!
Beautiful locations with beautiful scenery and wonderful sets. A great cast, with veteran actors, and attractive upcomers. Thank you for uploading and sharing it.
Excellent movie, superb acting. Bette Davis is outstanding in this as is Maggie smith. Would have been better with Suchet but Ustinov is a fine actor. Can't believe something of this quality is on RUclips. Thanks for posting.
I remember when this came out, saw it at a movie theater. Such an XLNT movie and a fabulous cast! Omgoddess Angela Lansbury is stellar in this 🤩😍🔥 Thank you so much for posting it - hadn’t seen it in a very long time. 🙂🙏
Lansbury was Oscar nominated as a teenager, was Queen of Broadway repeatedly but I have NEVER seen her be this funny. Conversely, watch her in Manchurian Candidate & World of Henry Orient playing 2 most EVIL mothers since Lady Macbeth, & yet very different characters.
Stella cast ( including the Indian actor, I C Johar whose very presence and line delivery elicit delight) and production ( the costumes , to die for). Brilliantly written ( even with a lesson in English grammar of the Conditional), and directed, edited and scored. One of the most enjoyable Agatha Christie's movies ever in my books. Murder has never been so gleefully portrayed.!!
It is sad to see that even in today's age, the people who have posted this movie have forgotten to add very famous Indian star "I S Johar's" name in the star cast section. This kind of discrimination is very sad.
Avid Agatha fan. Read her entire works at least 3 or 4 times & watch EVERY depiction on film I can find (thank YOU RUclips). One thing I always liked about Agatha's books is she never hesitates to draw us a map: In Death/Nile & Affair/Styles she put right in the book a layout of everyone's cabin/room. She always would duplicate a mark or note/letter in her books. So unique & so very useful. Have seen this before (many times) & Mia Farrow is terrific in this (along w/everyone else). Do Enjoy. AND, read the book if you get a chance.
In my opinion, this is the best adaptation of an Agatha Christie's novel. Even if I do like Sidney Lumet's "Murder on the Orient Express," I find this one far superior.
I come back to this film at different points in my life and thanks to it being here, I have again watched it repeatedly. The stand out performances here include Betty Davis, Maggie Smith, Angela Lansbury, Mia Farrow, Lois Chiles, Peter Ustinov and heck, I even like Jack Warden's German doctor. Even the boat owner is perfectly over the top. Lansbury is legendary. This crocodile has lost its croc. Best line, forever. Christie's writing is top notch as I think this is one of her best. Who else could conceive of such a long con?
Great cast! Not the same without David Suchet, but a great line-up none the less. Betty Davis is the bomb. David Niven, Mia Farrow, Angela Langsbury- faces I haven't seen in a long time.
Almost didn’t watch this because it lacked David Suchet; that would’ve been a huge mistake! The cast was phenomenal. Even though I had seen Death on the Nile before this version was phenomenal! Thank you for posting!
Poirot was my favorite Christie character by far. I read all of the books. Ustinov was a great Poirot, as was Suchet. I like them both equally, but the all star (of the day) casts in the old Ustinov movies can't be beat!!
Thank-you for posting this! I saw this movie in first release in a really big movie palace with a wonderful BIG screen. I loved I then and I'll love it forever. I think its the best of the Ustinov Poirots by far! Its just gorgeous and that music!! Much appreciated! 👏👏👏💐
59:08 So many wonderful actors, you’d never assemble a cast like this today! Peter Ustinov was not just a great actor but I loved when he was a guest star on shows like Johnny Carson, he always had interesting funny stories to tell. Carson never had to prompt him to talk, he was never at a loss for words.
"The Prime of Miss Maggie Smith" = "my gir-r-rls"... she joined David Niven in this 1976 film, then did "Murder by Death" with him, playing his wife, in 1978.
Without the gratuitous & unamusing caricature of the only brown person on board, this film would have aged well. Ustinov is a fine Poirot. I dont "miss" Suchet because his wouldnt have fit in here. And Niven is perfect for a version the Colonel who isnt like Christie's cluelessly proud one. Lovely to see the older female actors sinking their teeth in the scenery & each other ;->!! And any glimpse of Olivia is always a treat.
The only actors I don't recognize are the two young men and the woman with curly brown hair. Who are they, please? Mia Farrow looks good with meat on her bones. Good for her. It's been fun seeing so many famous actors. Thanks for uploading this gem.
There is no comparison with this production than any other David Suchet is absolutely a poor lousy “ Poirot “ compared to Mr . Yustinov …. Pure movie magic and so was evil under the sun absolutely stunning locations costumes production actors everything is stellar… The new renditions ( Kenneth Brahga ) with their special effects look like cheap made in China productions… these can never be reproduced absolutely stellar !!
An all star cast, but perhaps not my personal favorite version of this Christie classic. David Suchet is my favorite Poirot. Like his version better, but this is good as well. Same goes for "Murder on the Orient Express.". One version had an all star cast, but I liked Suchet's better. Personal choice. All Agatha Christie is great!!!!!!!!!!!!! Margaret Rutherford's portrayal as Miss Marple was epic!!!!! I plan to buy the DVDs if can get them.
I enjoy this one, but prefer the Suchet version. I disagree about Margaret Rutherford's Miss Marple. It was entertaining, but nothing like the character in the books. No other actress who ever portrayed Miss Marple can touch Joan Hickson for fidelity to the book character.
Not only an super all star cast but excellent filming cadence. The newer films seem to drag out a scene for so long I am wondering if everyone is so slow to catch on or it saving time and money in production. Also newer films have a terrible dark tint and everyone is whispering. Do they film them with a cell phone?
2:16:13 Great book and wonderful movie with great actors, I am amazed that everyone randomly decided to take a cruise down the Nile and coincidentally they are all familiar and connected to each other with a nefarious history. I wonder what the odds of that are! So Hercule Poirot, other than the small distraction of 4 murders and a cobra how did you enjoy your “Vacance” vacation cruise down the Nile?!
Such gorgeous scenery and an amazing cast. Unfortunately, the plot was rather obvious so far as whodunnit. Guessed it within the first 5 mins of the movie. Maybe that's because I'm jaded. Maybe that's because so many similar plots are out there. Perhaps Agatha Christie was first to this plotline, I don't know. This is my first time seeing this particular movie or hearing this particular story. Despite the fact that whodunits can wear a bit thin on me because it just seems to be really dragged out sometimes with the endless suspects and plot twists, the breathtaking cinematography as well as the bar none acting makes this a movie well worth re-watching.
