    I've used that swimwear elastic (the clear one) for years, making nappies. A tip I have for you: its to not cut the elastic to length but rather mark a dot instead. This way you have more than enough elastic to hold on to as you near the end of the seam and wont either run over your fingers, you cant run short on elastic and you wont mess up the last few stitches for fear of running over your fingers. You also dont waste any, since I used to always cut around an inch extra so that I had something to hold on to past the end of the seam.
    I happen to have some rainbow lycra that I might try out doll stockings or thigh highs with, since I just watched your thigh highs video too. Thank you!

      Gosh, clever you!! The best thing about comments sections on YT is all the incredibly brilliant ideas people have. (Sadly, there are also trolls, but one must take the rough with the smooth as they say.)

    thank you love. I love to use those little children tight from the & store. they are cheap ;) they are colorful and fun and the scale is quite perfect for our dolls. Events design, like Christmas, Halloween etc.. are always fun too. big hug

      I agree. We have a sock store in town that carries a huge assortment of colors and styles for tights. It's a big help.

    My mind is blown, why have I not considered clear elastic in doll clothes? 😮 Awesome tutorial!!

  • @johannaholmgren8088
    @johannaholmgren8088 4 месяца назад

    Amazing. I've always just thrown out those clear elastic straps that come on store bought clothing, never even occurred to me that it could be useful (although I hated throwing it out because I've inherited this "save everything, you never know when you'll need it" hoarding gene from my German ancestors. Apparently.) Now that I know there is a use, I've been happily snipping it off of everything. Just hope my adult daughter doesn't notice that there aren't any in her new sweaters anymore...😂😂😂

    • @DesignsbyJude
      @DesignsbyJude  2 года назад +1

      The tights pattern will fit a 16" doll. If you add a little length it should work for a 17" doll as well.

    Love your tutorials and have subscribed! You are so to the point and offer great tips. It is so helpful to see you actually sewing the pieces on the machine! I'd love to see how people sew those tiny bra-cup styled bustier crop tops. I love the one that comes on the Gene dolls. BTW, I tried to search for the stretch knit you mentioned, but I have never been able to find it with the tiny dots or designs like the knit you used in this video. I can only find the plain mesh. Do you have any suggestions, please?

    • @DesignsbyJude
      @DesignsbyJude  2 года назад

      Searching online is my best recommendation. The stretch with dots was sent to me by a friend, but she doesn't recall where she originally bought it. Thank you for subscribing.

    Hi Jude....you've sewn for so many dolls. Is it easier to sew for the larger 16"+ dolls rather than the 11.5 or 12 inch?

    • @DesignsbyJude
      @DesignsbyJude  3 года назад +2

      It is a little easier to sew for the 16" and larger dolls, but I enjoy sewing for all sizes.

    Is it possible to get tights the same as full size women like sheer type

    • @DesignsbyJude
      @DesignsbyJude  7 месяцев назад

      I'm not sure. It's easy to use human tights to make doll tights, but I am not aware of where to get a similar material to make human tights.

    • @DesignsbyJude

      I do think it could work. I would find material that has a smaller fishnet weave if possible. Let me know how it works out.

    My sewing machine would “eat” this fabric up at the beginning.

    • @DesignsbyJude
      @DesignsbyJude  3 года назад +1

      I struggle with the same issue. It can help if you place a piece of tissue paper under the project to get it started.

    • @johannaholmgren8088
      @johannaholmgren8088 2 года назад

      Try stabiliser or tissue paper. I've used tissue with surprisingly good results. Sure does prevent your machine from gorging itself on your fragile and sometimes expensive fabric

    • @danatmonst3594
      @danatmonst3594 2 года назад

      You can fold a piece of the same fabric you're sewing with or scrap fabric under the back of the presser foot. This way your foot has something to grab on to and be level when you first start the seam, rather than the foot having to move up hill.
