I reached a point in my cycling life where no matter how much I spend on a good bike - someone else will always have a better bike. Comparison is a thief of joy, so I stopped caring about the gears and focused more on how I as a cyclist would do justice on my bike by being fitter. Because no matter how light my bike is - I will never fully appreciate it if I am always dropped in group rides😅

When I was younger, my dad always said that there would always be somebody with more. So there's no point in comparing

Wow, those are some good observations! I hadn't heard of this hedonic adaptation, though I felt it. You are right, the high of material things wears off, but the immaterial things, experience and feeling, lives on. And I always enjoy bikes, the riders are what's really interesting. Thanks for the reminder compadre.

Amen to this! I have a feeling i'll get that feel bad buyer's remorse post purchase feeling if I get the canyon aeroad rathen than getting that sigma lens that's been on the wishlist for upcoming experiences and memories!
    Relate much? 😂

hahah I used to crave for good camera stuff also. But I'm pretty happy with my setup. Ok... happy is a stretch. Just satisfied. My camera is falling apart, but it still works. lol

Also, if you buy more bikes, you're burdening yourself with more maintenance. A bike's potential for making new memories with is only as good as the condition you can keep it in, and having a bigger bike fleet means more time spent wrenching and less on actual riding.
This is why for me, having a relatively small, focused bike fleet is ideal. Each bike should have the potential to deliver a slightly different set of memories.
    Good share.

Yep. It's a good idea to have More than one bike but not too many

I am still using a 10 year old bike. Bikes are way too expensive now. It's absolutely insane what a new bike costs now! Is it any less fun with my bike? Not at all.

I hear you. I'm not planning on changing any of my bikes anytime soon.

Kanya kanyang trip lang yan. Some are into high end bikes, some are into fun club rides, some are into competitive cycling or segment hunting, some are into japorms coffee ride, etc. We all have different goals in cycling and what inspires us to get addicted to the lifestyle. Cheers

I go look and base my purchases on my last experience: what I lacked or what would've made my last experience so much better if I had "x" thing/part/tool. This usually results into better rides in the future, based on my experience at least.

To add, I also think if you are already happy with your own bike, then it would most likely be the trail that excites you because you'd want to see how your bike performs. But if you are not happy with your own bike, than that's a different story. 🎉

I remember a friend of mine a typical guy who upgrades stuff once in a while. He recently bought a new bike and he told me that its a motivation to ride more. I had goosebumps upon hearing it.

Not drooling over the bikes is kind of achievement hahaha because at that point you know you are satisfied with what you have, but never satisfied with where you had been on the bike.

I suppose that's true. I didn't think of it that way. When I didn't have the midnight special yet, I used to drool over soany bikes hahaha

Depends how you percieve a bike. Its either a tool or a prestige item. To me, riding trails is like slaying dragons. Surviving the ride without dying or getting seriously injured is satisfying enough. Bike tires tho, will always be a moneypit. Im never satisfied with any of them.
