I have to agree that Herman and Grandpa Munster’s casting choices were perfect. Not to mention that Eddie was originally a mean werewolf. After the role was given to Butch, Eddie became the friendly werewolf.
Lily's vampire look seems to be chic today. LMAO! Super straightened hair; lots of liner; all that contouring; and those perfect brows. This was my unique look way before it went mainstream :D Anyone else sport whatever they wanted because it suited you too?
I just realized that Joan Marshall (Phoebe Munster) is the same actress who played Captain Kirk's prosecution attorney and love interest in 'Court Martial' on Star Trek.
Its always interesting to see these alternative versions of shows we are now familiar with. There is something different about this Herman Munster, although its still the wonderful Fred Gwynne, that I just can't put my finger on. This version of Eddie Munster was too repulsive. Butch Patrick was far more likeable and appealing. This early Lily Munster (called "Phoebe" here), is closer to her 1964 counterpart Morticia on the Addams Family.Who else could play Grandpa but the great Al Lewis!
I fell in love with Yevonne deCarlo as Lily Munster. And she will always be the only Lily Munster in my book. This Pheobe character was too dry for me. It was like she was'nt really into it. And I agree she was trying to be more Moticia Addams than Lily Munster.
Considering she is supposed to be the 'bride of Frankenstein', I always thought Lily Munster was a bit off. After seeing Pheobe in this vid, I think she caught a little more of the mannerisms. Especially in the intro, moving almost robotically, and having moments of emotion/reactions, like when Grandpa tried to bite her neck. I wonder if they ever considered her coming back, as Phoebe, to play Lily's sister? That would have been cool.
I think she is supposed to be a vampire not the bride of Frankenstein...I always wondered why they didn't use the bride of Frankenstein like the hair on lily Munster would suggest.
@@leeannasloan2292 Lilly looks like the Bride of Frankenstein, and acts like a vampire, Phoebe looks like a Vampire and acts like the Bride. Like they couldn't make up their minds what she was supposed to be.
Kyla Bandstra I am so sorry she passed. I wonder did she ever meet that other Marilyn? Pat Priest once said in a interview years ago that she would like to meet her.
well they only changed the actors that played Herman's wife (her name was changed to Lillian) and Eddie. ... good thing too..... they fit the roll better
The color looks REALLY nice, but I don't like anything else about it. Definitely happy with the direction they ultimately took. Herman isn't goofy enough, Lily er..Phoebe? is too gloomy and sultry. Eddie is really annoying and nothing at all like the fun loving normal kid that made him fun to watch. Grandpa and Marilyn seem to be about the only characters that are pretty much good to go from the start. Amazing this still exists though.
They really beefed up Fred Gwynne after the pilot (thank goodness). He was too skinny to be Frankenstein, haha. His forehead in the pilot looked so weird compared to the rest of his body. It was huge. And that Happy Derman was so awful (and he was such a horrible brat). So glad they changed him for Butch Patrick. Patrick was made for that role
+fatbaby73 Fred Gwynne was a sucky second rate actor ... Gwynne was in acting only because he had money and was a WASP-IRISHMAN...in those days that is all you had to be a WASPY Irish person with money to make it anywhere.....All of those Irish people sucked ..E.G. Irene Ryan, Jackie Gleason, Darren McGavin Gavin Macleod and a holy host from the sucky actors guild....LOL
MsPerogi, gosh do you spit on your mom's grave. Gracious if you don't have anything descent to say about a dead person, then just keep it to yourself. He may not have been a Marlon Brando or Fred Astaire, but I enjoyed watching him, and I am certain others did, too.
Something I never noticed before. In her effort to 'not scare this one off', Marilyn reverses some of the usual gender tropes for this kind of scene - he's the one reluctant to come inside, and he's the one who has to be persuaded to even walk her to the door. Clever.
Never knew this one...only took 45 years. The charters seem to have no idea where their going with this. Phoebe was very pretty, but seemed to be acting like she was on opiates.
Joane Marshal is very sexy but she did not have the charisma of Ivonne de Carlo she was the original wife but it was seen that she was a copy of Morticia the producers did not like that she was a bootleg Morticia Addams.
I don't like this Lily, Herman or Eddie.... She's too beautiful, Herman act too refine and Eddie... I don't know it's just that I don't see the same chemistry between this characters... It's seems to stage!! Love the others characters... My humble opinion... :)
*SO* glad they changed it before they went through with this version!
Phoebe was beautiful, but Lily will always be queen. 🖤
They were both gorgeous. Goth women are sexy
I grew up with and still love The Munsters, but damn what a different vibe this putting out.
Wow. Just wow. I had no idea this existed and I've been watching this show for over 40 years.
I have to agree that Herman and Grandpa Munster’s casting choices were perfect. Not to mention that Eddie was originally a mean werewolf. After the role was given to Butch, Eddie became the friendly werewolf.
Eddie would have soon become annoying if he'd been played like this. Anyway, werewolves don't hiss.
Lily's vampire look seems to be chic today. LMAO! Super straightened hair; lots of liner; all that contouring; and those perfect brows. This was my unique look way before it went mainstream :D Anyone else sport whatever they wanted because it suited you too?
Never in my entire life did I see a credit sequence with a laugh track. Guess there's a first time for everything.
I just realized that Joan Marshall (Phoebe Munster) is the same actress who played Captain Kirk's prosecution attorney and love interest in 'Court Martial' on Star Trek.
Actually this interesting. It's interesting to see other casting choices. After all, most actors are quite talented regardless of the final outcomes.

The quality of this is amazing!

...two-dimensional
@@CHDean That's being generous. Grandpa's invisible friend was a better actor.
Good thing they decided to change it ....this would have been a huge flop
The music was used towards the end of the Doris Day/James Garner 1963 classic, The Thrill of it All.
I find it quite interesting how all of the character make-up "evolved", as the show progressed!

@@freakctc yes! I think you are right.
Q bien evolucionaron los actores. Ivone le puso un toque muy distinguido y Eddy dulce.
Fue una gran serie. De mis favoritas
Actually, this episode was filmed in color, but because colorization was too expensive, they decided on black and white.
Beverly Owen was so beautiful!
Kyla Bandstra I am so sorry she passed. I wonder did she ever meet that other Marilyn? Pat Priest once said in a interview years ago that she would like to meet her.
Yevonne D'Carlo was better as Lily
Butch Patrick was a better Eddie as well.
YAS
+kellyjdrummer Yas
kellyjdrummer definitely!
it could be. but I think Joan Marshall didn't get the time to develop the character. She was prettier indeed
Marilyn and phoebe are both beautiful! Lily is absolutely gorgeous!
How did they miss so badly with this pilot, then hit it out of the park with the series?
Wow...this is a creepier cast.
There were only two different cast members Pheobe/Lily and Eddie
Cherry Cola There was a different Marilyn too.
Phoebe is very beautiful. I don't know why this Joan Marshal never got more recognition.
Not the same, I liked the old characters, Butch Patrick, Lilly and the other one who played Marilyn. Looks so much different in color!
well they only changed the actors that played Herman's wife (her name was changed to Lillian) and Eddie. ... good thing too..... they fit the roll better
Butch Patrick was way better as Eddie.
😉😉😉😉😉😉😉
Oh my word! Eddie is such a brat! The newer eddie is better...
the old Eddie has orrible...the new PERFECT...and so for Lily!
Hatfield vs McCoy, Michigan vs. Ohio State .....
For us in the 3rd grade, it was "The Munsters" vs. "the Adams Family."
Munsters always won.
you fellas were not kidding. Lily Munster really does look Morticia Adams - WOW.

The howling sounds a bit like trusty from lady and the tramp
I would suspect late 1963. The production of the aired 1rst episode was Feb. '64. Tho it's not known when exactly it was filmed.
Good choice in replacing Joan with Yvonne but damn, Joan's gorgeous.
The opening pre-credits scene was genuinely funny.
So glad they changed it.
The actual idea was thought up in the 1940's for the series, but wasn't produced until almost 20 years later.
What a treat to see this! Yvonne de Carlo was def a better choice. This gal looks too much like a hippie lol

this is an unaired episode and was shot in color
This was the only episode filmed in color. The filming buget was too tight for using color cameras. They were green in the original episodes.
Wow, this is terrible. Thank God they made the changes that they did
im glad they got another actress for Lily and changed her look. she looks to much like Morticia.
looks like the addams family
Phoebe looks like Lindsay Lohan in monster makeup. LOL.
Wow no wonder it never aired
Love this Show
phoebe looked too much like morticia Addams
new Munsters Theme was best as well as the cast;!...tho Joan Marshall(whom also starred in a Star Trek episode) as Lily was Saxxy lookin..lol
Joan Marshall as Phoebe here - looks a bit like Barbara Steele.
This version was weird at best.
This is much more similar to the Addams Family.
yeah with especially the noose.
he runs lol Man:bye i'm out
Ugh! I hate this Eddie!!
+Michelle Stalker yeah...he is agressive and rude...is not funny
Michelle Stalker me too
The weird thing is his name was happy!
Wow my first time seeing this clip. I like Yvonne Carlo much better. I always wondered why Marilyn was si strange. She actually thinks she's ugly. Lol
They really beefed up Fred Gwynne after the pilot (thank goodness). He was too skinny to be Frankenstein, haha. His forehead in the pilot looked so weird compared to the rest of his body. fatbaby73 My Mom is still alive.....I am only talking about reality...the way it was....in those days
That Happy Demon👿, was the wrong choice for Eddie.
Butch Patrick was a much better choice.
4:53 he went to kiss her on the lips..lol I think I would have fallen off script as well.
they must have told fred qwynne to be much broader with the character - he was somewhat "reserved" in this pilot...
i could see mistakes in face piant around pheobes mouth where regular skin was showing where face paint wasnt covering
They would have never made it with that lineup!
What is up with Happy Derman as Eddie?? Eeessssshhh!!
I love it
Man O Man other than Herman & Grandpa, they are all different. Huh! Who knew.
I saw this episode in b&w💫👍
Joan Marshall perfect Morticia 😍
I can totally identify with Marilyn.
where did pheobe come from wasnt it lily?
Terry Bowen the original script had her named Phoebe. Lily is much better.
Something I never noticed before. In her effort to 'not scare this one off', Marilyn reverses some of the usual gender tropes for this kind of scene - he's the one reluctant to come inside, and he's the one who has to be persuaded to even walk her to the door. Clever.
This is pretty weak. They definitely improved the show. 4:52 Herman tries to slip Marilyn the tongue.
creepters.
Phoebe is gorgeous, but wish she had more personality like Lily.
The original Eddie was really annoying, so glad he got replaced.
What’s a “ Happy Dermon “ ?😂
The kid who originally played Eddie was downright annoying...😖
U.mean.happy.derman
@@jamesbailey8251 No. Happy Demon 😈
Thank you for
it looks so weird in color lol
What is Grandpa eating and why does it move?
strawberryseason Fresh popcorn! Dyed black! 😀
The lady that played Herman's wife isn't the same
Joan Marshall was not creepy enough to be Lily.
Marilyn dates a guy who looks like he's 40

Good
I was wondering if this had been "colorized." I remember it in B&W.
I luv the munsters :):):)
Good show wish put more in stores movies buy them at Walmart or target stores great show
i am from the past i am gwynne i used a time machine to get to 2016 at the age of 34
Wait what happened to Lily?
Joane Marshal is very sexy but she did not have the charisma of Ivonne de Carlo she was the original wife but it was seen that she was a copy of Morticia the producers did not like that she was a bootleg Morticia Addams.
In Color!
Knees knees
Who is here because of HarmonTown?
When was this show made
Derpinator4758 1964
color but the show was in black and white
this dosent look like the same people
I wonder if phoebe got dropped because she looked too much like Morticia Addams.
I don't like this Lily, Herman or Eddie.... She's too beautiful, Herman act too refine and Eddie... I don't know it's just that I don't see the same chemistry between this characters... It's seems to stage!! Love the others characters... My humble opinion... :)
I did many a Phoebe Munster look-alike
I like this Herman better. The other outfit was too bulky. And it weighed a ton, from what i read.
It's the same Herman
I believe he or she was talking about the costume.
Billy and so
How was it in colour
This episode was in black and white, they must have added color later on
Horrible Eddie, he was not even likeable. Butch killed it..
